APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Thursday January 2, 2003 (MJD 52642) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Pete Newman Jurek Krzesinski ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- Since the whather was promissing at the evening we started with imaging, but after a nice start, we got bad seeing. Ignore please all imaged data, but bias at the telescope). We switched to spectroscopy. 40 minutes exposure time lost due to landru problem (yes, it was rebooted before the night). Plates done: 1185,966,933,837 Useful exposures on: 1078, 1157 ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon checkout: o- DA checkout ok. o- West neon lamp replaced. o- Landru rebooted. o- MCP rebooted: flat field petals didn't open this time on thier own (which had happend regularly after opening the telescope on previous nights). 00:20Z We put the imager on - the weather looks ok. and the north wind is very low. During the dusk we took bias at the telescope taken (run 3578). And steup for 82 S. Run 3579 - started without autoscale, stoped -IGNORE 01:14Z Run 3580 strip 82 S, frame 21 in focus. Skippy results ok. Seeing acceptable since the beginning. Taking donuts: in focuse: -364 frame 28. out of focuse: -400 frame 31 out of focuse: +400 frame 35 Frame 44, lambda: -165 GOOD SEEING! Skippy is happy. Bad seeing got us shortly after 50-th frame (the wind speed rised over 15 mph), The run is useless. IGNORE. Since Jim's donuts were ok. we copied them over into host: /data/photo/optics/52642 02:34Z Changing to spectro. 02:56Z cart 1 plt 1078 mounted. No guide stars, so we found them via fk5. The wind speeds up. But stayed at the safe level. Two exposures done, with useful S/N. 04:27Z cart 2 plt 1157 mounted. Stars on slew. 05:25Z Landru got frozen. Pete had to reboot it - 40 min. science time lost including lost exposure (20 minutes). We had to start with guider flats. It happened that a focusLoop from imaging was twicking the focus during our science spectro exposure (apparently we did not switched the loop off, when we changed to spectroscopy). Anyway, before landru crashed, our focus was set to -140 and after the crash we found out that it's -186. (We confirmed that bad focusLoop behaviour looking at tcc log on pod computer). Now guider star images looks better. Got some useful exposures on that plate, but we found out (after sending the telescope to instChange position) that Sos wanted postcalibs. 06:53Z cart 9 plt 933 mounted. We had to use fk5 to find the guide stars. Done with 3 exposures. 08:14Z cart 6 plt 1185 mounted. fk5 used. Scale error on this plate was varying within a range +- 0.005 constantly. But Sos was happy and r1,b1,r2,b2 got similar values. Done with three exposures. 09:36Z cart 3 plt 966 mounted. We found fk5 after a few trials of offsets. Done with 3 exposures. 10:58Z cart 5 plt 837 mounted. fk5 had to be used again. Done with 3 exposures. 12:19Z cart 7 plt 1012 mounted. We spent some time trying to find fk5, small spiral pattern wasn't enough. We past twilight trying to find fk5. Finaly we found fk5 star 21" away! endNight rejoced. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3577 23:09Z 23:51Z 100 O 158.64 169.16 61 ignore 3578 00:50Z 01:06Z 100 O -176.07 -171.90 41 bias 3579 01:11Z 01:12Z 82 S -171.52 -171.16 16 ignore 3580 01:14Z 02:33Z 82 S -170.68 -150.93 144 ignore ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3580 14 4 41 -0.700 0.102 -7.800 0.136 -0.00024 181 57 3580 24 4 34 -0.900 0.099 -8.200 0.104 0.00038 181 57 3580 40 4 52 -0.100 0.084 -8.000 0.106 0.00084 181 57 3580 78 4 41 -0.300 0.078 -8.300 0.129 0.00094 181 57 3580 80 4 52 -0.100 0.084 -8.000 0.106 0.00084 181 57 3580 80 4 40 -0.100 0.110 -8.400 0.132 0.00039 181 57 3580 132 4 46 -1.100 0.114 -8.900 0.112 0.00105 181 57 ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 3580 36 1 57 359 5 -0.631 0.087 -0.618 0.166 0.00208 3580 36 1 57 359 3 -0.574 0.084 -0.394 0.067 0.00133 3580 54 1 57 359 10 -0.413 0.170 -0.328 0.421 0.00110 3580 54 1 57 359 20 -0.492 0.216 -0.180 0.193 0.00060 3580 54 1 57 359 16 -0.469 0.220 -0.251 0.274 0.00085 3580 54 1 57 359 15 -0.595 0.194 -0.030 0.191 0.00010 3580 54 1 57 359 13 -0.432 0.192 -0.285 0.211 0.00096 3580 89 1 57 359 7 -0.513 0.281 -0.285 0.076 0.00096 3580 89 1 57 359 7 -0.602 0.340 -0.420 0.133 0.00141 3580 89 1 57 359 9 -0.460 0.488 -0.511 0.349 0.00172 3580 89 1 57 359 9 -0.334 0.278 -0.607 0.316 0.00204 3580 89 1 57 359 12 -0.347 0.289 -0.575 0.417 0.00193 3580 107 1 57 359 14 -0.288 0.289 -0.220 0.238 0.00074 3580 107 1 57 359 20 -0.266 0.229 -0.255 0.137 0.00086 3580 107 1 57 359 16 -0.263 0.210 -0.293 0.187 0.00098 3580 107 1 57 359 12 -0.218 0.106 -0.200 0.279 0.00067 3580 107 1 57 359 13 -0.091 0.226 -0.240 0.366 0.00081 3580 126 1 57 359 10 -0.588 0.206 -0.493 0.158 0.00166 3580 126 1 57 359 11 -0.517 0.251 -0.552 0.178 0.00185 3580 126 1 57 359 12 -0.711 0.055 -0.714 0.186 0.00240 3580 126 1 57 359 13 -0.429 0.308 -0.492 0.267 0.00165 3580 126 1 57 359 10 -0.277 0.348 -0.454 0.232 0.00153 ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 17745, plate 1012 ------- 23:01 17745 0.0 bias ----- sequence 17746, plate 1078 ------- 03:07 17746 10.0 flat 03:09 17747 2.0 arc 03:33 17748 900.1 target 03:50 17749 900.1 target 04:10 17750 900.1 target 04:18 17751 240.0 smear ----- sequence 17752, plate 1157 ------- 04:37 17752 10.0 flat 04:40 17753 2.0 arc 05:04 17754 1200.1 target ----- sequence 17755, plate 1157 ------- 06:10 17755 1200.1 target 06:33 17756 1200.1 target 06:41 17757 240.0 smear ----- sequence 17758, plate 933 ------- 07:03 17758 10.0 flat 07:05 17759 2.0 arc 07:25 17760 900.1 target 07:43 17761 900.1 target 07:59 17762 750.1 target 08:07 17763 240.0 smear ----- sequence 17764, plate 1185 ------- 08:24 17764 10.0 flat 08:26 17765 2.0 arc 08:46 17766 800.1 target 08:59 17767 600.1 target 09:15 17768 750.1 target 09:22 17769 240.0 smear 09:25 17770 10.0 flat 09:28 17771 2.0 arc ----- sequence 17772, plate 966 ------- 09:49 17772 10.0 flat 09:52 17773 2.0 arc 10:12 17774 900.1 target 10:25 17775 600.1 target 10:37 17776 600.1 target 10:45 17777 240.0 smear 10:48 17778 10.0 flat 10:50 17779 2.0 arc ----- sequence 17780, plate 837 ------- 11:08 17780 10.0 flat 11:10 17781 2.0 arc 11:28 17782 750.1 target 11:48 17783 1000.1 target 12:03 17784 750.1 target 12:12 17785 240.0 smear ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 03:16Z 1 1078 -36.79 0.0014 51.33 0.0024 149.71 0.0041 0.999810 04:42Z 2 1157 -20.90 0.0003 55.43 0.0024 162.48 -0.0058 0.999850 07:16Z 9 933 99.92 -0.0013 70.16 0.0011 -93.30 0.0006 1.000100 08:50Z 6 1185 -6.52 0.0056 61.08 0.0047 174.45 0.0005 1.000160 09:56Z 3 966 137.71 -0.0043 64.30 0.0006 -60.09 -0.0103 1.000090 11:14Z 5 837 15.70 0.0040 61.15 0.0026 193.13 -0.0039 1.000150 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: JL5877 Stays: JL5878 ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 03:15Z 1 1078 0.99982 1776 2534 -113 -36 51.5 1.3 20 19 gdr 2.2 04:42Z 2 1157 0.99985 1480 2271 -120 -21 55.5 2.2 23 18 -
