APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Saturday April 17, 2004 (MJD 53113) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Night: Atsuko Nitta, Pete Newman Support: Eric Neilsen (FNAL), Craig Loomis (both by phone from home) ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science. ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- Rain and high winds (over 70 mph once) prevented operations. Day crew please note: we have water leaks in the upper and lower enclosures. Beware water may be in lectrical fittings on the lower enclosure ceiling and on (but we think not in) the rotating racks. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- We eventually solved the endNight problem from last night (MJD 53112). As reported in the log, the problem resulted from wrong access permissions to the sdsshost:/mcptpm directory. Craig fixed the oservers' access groups, and Eric led us to the correct files to remove to complete the re-run successfully (i.e. remove the ioptape.archlog file in both /astrolog/53112 and /skycat/oplogs/53112. A heavy storm (rain, at times, mud) moved in before sunset and continued bad weather prevented operations. The highest reported speed from the weather tower anaemometer was 70.5 mph at 08:59Z, a personal best at APO for tonight's observers. Thanks to Russet McMillan for pulling up the data. On shutting down around 09:30Z, we found water on the floor on the west side of both upper and lower enclosures. In the upper enclosure, it looks like it blew under the west door. In the lower enclosure, it looks like it came through the ceiling. We put absorbent padding down on the floors. Electrical fittings on the ceiling of the west of the lower enclosure and the covers on the west rotating racks should be checked for water before moving the telescope. endNight ran successfully onto cloudy-night tapes. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4579 00:07Z 00:28Z 100 O -82.64 -77.29 50 ignore 4580 00:54Z 01:07Z 100 O -70.66 -67.48 35 ignore ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): n QA Procedures Done (y/n): n UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- No tapes shipped or stored. ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 01:09Z 3 1601 1.00004 -395 930 0 121 30.0 6.6 20 204 ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 00:20Z 43 42 9 206 (SSW) 1786 - Overcast 00:52Z 44 40 37 201 (SSW) 1374 - " 01:24Z 43 41 21 226 (SW) 1443 - " 01:56Z 43 41 21 221 (SW) 7615 - " 02:29Z 45 38 17 258 (WSW) 6903 - " 03:01Z 45 38 25 242 (WSW) 3194 - " 03:33Z 45 37 26 259 (W) 1732 - " 04:05Z 44 38 15 241 (WSW) 1311 - " 04:37Z 45 36 26 209 (SSW) 2565 - " 05:10Z 46 33 17 220 (SW) 4555 - " 05:40Z 47 32 21 222 (SW) 8662 - " 06:10Z 46 33 24 213 (SSW) 10967 - " 06:40Z 46 35 24 228 (SW) 9612 - " 07:10Z 46 35 21 197 (SSW) 5955 - " 07:41Z 46 34 28 204 (SSW) 1361 - " 08:11Z 47 31 31 216 (SW) 426 - " 08:41Z 49 30 41 210 (SSW) 439 - " 09:13Z 48 32 31 202 (SSW) 1270 - " 09:46Z 47 31 38 194 (SSW) 1265 - " ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- Enclosure on all night.
