APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Friday September 7, 2001 (MJD 52160) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Eric Neilsen Jurek Krzesinski Scot Kleinman Mike Harvanek Jon Brinkman Craig Loomis ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Shakedown ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- We opened about 20:30 after a problem with the 15 deg ALT break. (Mike told us that the same thing happened to French during the day) We checked the collimation, and built the pointing model (64 points). PR2378 closed PR760 suspended logTool tested PR2560 - still under test, however we did not see the "full step" error ################ Not tested ################### IOP: PR1314: goDrift and gangs - ignore produced incorrect gang headers SOP: PR782: Multiple endStare -pause and goStare -resume result in incorrect exposure mtpipe We did not do Russell's requests. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- We begin the night by putting on the engineering camera. With help from Jon and Craig, we manage to get it set up and successfully take an image, only to loose the connection to the engineering camara. We finally managed to get the engineering camera working after Jon cleaned the fibers with alcahol. We receive the folowing TCC error: 0 0 F Modu=\042axe_i_SchMove\042; Text=\042tracking failed and axes could not be halted; PLEASE DISABLE THE TELESCOPE! Everything seemed okay, and we continued. On bringing the telescope down to 6 degrees for opening, the 15 degree alt brake stopped the telescope, and could not be reset. Physically, it looked fine. Reseting the alt amplifiers did not solve the problem. Because it worked for French when he had a similar problem earlier, we rebooted the MCP. This did indeed allow us to reset the break and move the telescope to 6 degrees. After opening the telescope, however, the break came back on, and we had to reboot the MCP again to move the telescope above 6 degrees. Before taking a pointing model with the fiducials in the new MCP, we call Robert to try and get the MCP problems worked out. He believes it to be a hardware problem, but reverts one of the MCP files to see if that helps. The version of MCP with that reversion is v5_4_3. Using version v5_4_3, we were able to move past the 15 degree alt break successfully. When homing and relaxing the primary, we notice that the tpm does not change the values it reports for the primary. Its reporting of the secondary values seems to work properly. We check the collimation, and it looks okay. We use grid file GRID_8_8_25_88_T_90.DAT for our pointing model, with the following parameters: DoPtErr_DoPause = TRUE DoPtErr_DoRetry = TRUE DoPtErr_MaxAltForCorr = 80 DoPtErr_NExtraCorr = 0 DoPtErr_SlewPause = 10 DoPtErr_OffPause = 5 We successfully get a 64 point 2.4 arcsecond pointing model. and implemented it. IOP ------------------------ logTool works(yes/no) 1. logTool internal restructuring: yes cut & paste: works (one should remember that text will be inserted at the position of the mouse cursor!) scroll bars: works 2. logTool editable sections now wrap text: no 3. External editor from logTool: yes didn't work, but after corrections: works 4. Storage of logTool manual log: yes (some problems has been correted on fly) 5. Save button active even in uneditable sections: yes works, but you have to be sure, that you own the logTool. 6. ctrl-save button saves the log without prompting yes the user. Works, however you'll not see that the "save" button has been pressed. 7. Special characters no longer confuse logTool: yes However there is still problem with "-" sign. 8. Time tracking problem and activity time dialogs no now indicate problem or activity in question. Still needs some work - it actualy shows you the title of the window, but doesn't tell you if this is start or end of the time. Also I (Jurek) would like to have titles saying the same, what activity buttons. When you first time press one of time track buttons, than additional vindow of error will show up, but you can press ok. in that window and proceed with no problem. PRs: PR2378:we'd like calcStripeParams to be able to (closed) report on future times. (works). PR760: endNight should copy /mcptpm/mjd from (suspended) sdsshost to sdss-commish. (We don't do this anymore). PR2599: Time tracking windows for writting the (needs changes) beginning and the end (see point 8. above) SOP ------------------------------- PRs: PR781: endStare -pause and goStare -resume do not (still doesn't work) output correct exposure times -------------------------------- TCC/MIRRORS PRs: PR2560 (on full step error) - we didn't notice any "full step" error, but we'll watch it during the next night. -------------------------------- ################ Not tested ################### IOP: PR1314: goDrift and gangs - ignore produced incorrect gang headers SOP: PR782: Multiple endStare -pause and goStare -resume result in incorrect exposure mtpipe TCC/MIRRORS We did not do Russell's requests. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Stripe Flavor Lambda Last Begin End Frame Comments \------------------------------------------------------------------ 2527 100 O ignore 88.78 90.54 26 ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot \--------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot \--------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 10802, plate -9999 ------- 02:12 10802 0.0 bias {{}} 10:26 10803 40.0 ignore {{}} {{}} 10:31 10804 0.0 bias {{}} 10:36 10805 34.0 ignore {{}} {{}} 11:19 10806 85.0 ignore {{}} {{}} 11:24 10807 122.0 ignore {{}} ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument getclock Az Alt Rot Scale ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Stays: JL 4358, 4359 ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm \------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 18:55 63 23 8 266 (W) 453 - 19:27 61 24 12 264 (W) 529 - 19:59 59 26 16 245 (WSW) 721 - 20:31 58 27 12 249 (WSW) 771 - 21:03 58 27 14 266 (W) 749 - 21:36 58 26 13 263 (W) 753 - 22:08 57 26 14 266 (W) 712 - 22:40 57 26 8 249 (WSW) 807 - 23:12 56 26 14 289 (WNW) 935 - 23:44 55 26 6 267 (W) 1112 - 00:21 54 26 2 265 (W) 871 - 01:01 56 20 6 354 (NNW) 835 - 01:33 56 18 8 17 (NNE) 798 - 02:05 57 17 6 302 (WNW) 774 - 02:38 57 18 7 299 (WNW) 752 - 03:14 55 19 6 226 (SW) 801 - 03:46 55 22 6 237 (WSW) 761 - 04:18 54 23 7 289 (WNW) 732 - 04:51 54 25 7 287 (WNW) 643 - 05:23 50 26 6 276 (W) 696 - ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- We tried to open around 20:00 but we got the 15 ALT break problem.
