APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Friday February 15, 2002 (MJD 52321) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Mike Harvanek (APO) Pete Newman (APO) ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- The entire night was lost to clouds. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Partly cloudy at sunset. We begin with spectroscopy (cart 1, plate 810). Guide stars found after an FK5 star was obtained. Experienced the same "subregion out of bounds" error on the guider frame that we got on this plate last night. Had a preCalib failure due to this. The error message can be found in the Problems section. Had an AxisDTime:alt (0.9: Feb 15 19:17:57 MST) error. Clouds became thicker and the first exposure (20 min) yielded data that had S/N^2 > 2 (just barely) for only 2 of the 4 cameras. Two 30 minute exposures gave no data with S/N^2 > 2. At this point, plate 810 expired and we waited for the clouds to decrease. The clouds thinned and we tried plate 867 (cart 7). Guide stars found using an FK5 star. This is a chunk 33 plate and 2 guide stars (5 ,6) were known to be missing. Scale changes were applied but then the error in the scale reported by the guider did not change. So, we could not trust the scale setting on this plate. We had a "subregion out of bounds" error on this plate as well. Two 30 minute exposures gave no data with S/N^2 > 2. At this point, we closed due to heavy clouds. We never reopened. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2992 2227Z 2249Z 100 O -168.18 -162.69 51 ignore ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot --------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot --------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 13309, plate -9999 ------- 22:30 13309 0.0 bias 22:33 13310 0.0 bias ----- sequence 13311, plate 810 ------- 22:43 13311 0.0 bias 00:29 13312 0.0 bias 01:50 13313 10.0 flat 01:53 13314 2.0 arc 02:18 13315 1201.0 target 02:46 13316 1501.0 target 03:14 13317 1500.0 target ----- sequence 13318, plate 867 ------- 05:20 13318 10.0 flat 05:22 13319 2.0 arc 05:51 13320 1502.0 target 06:18 13321 1500.0 target ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 0136Z 1 810 -19.41 0.0011 55.71 0.0017 163.75 -0.0007 0.999990 0200Z 1 810 -28.98 0.0011 53.69 0.0017 155.94 -0.0007 0.999990 0523Z 7 867 126.09 -0.0118 76.67 -0.0004 -62.24 -0.0297 0.999990 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: None Stays: None ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 18:37 1 810 0.99999 99 1215 -30 -20 55.7 0.3 7 354 ---- 1.7 19:01 1 810 0.99999 99 1222 -30 -29 53.6 -0.2 6 353 ---- 1.6 22:24 7 867 0.99999 99 1188 -15 126 76.8 -0.3 1 197 ---- 1.5 ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 15:12 34 16 5 21 (NNE) 455 - pcl 15:43 36 18 1 340 (NNW) 431 - pcl 16:15 33 17 7 293 (WNW) 446 - pcl 16:48 34 18 3 261 (W) 557 - pcl 17:19 31 17 2 291 (WNW) 582 - pcl 17:50 32 16 7 13 (NNE) 619 - pcl 18:20 31 17 9 16 (NNE) 374 - pcl 18:52 31 17 6 341 (NNW) 421 - mcl 19:23 31 17 5 356 (NNW) 392 - mcl 19:56 31 17 0 257 (WSW) 388 - mcl 20:27 30 17 1 332 (NNW) 483 - mcl 20:57 30 16 1 103 (ESE) 467 - mcl 21:28 31 17 0 181 (S) 475 - mcl 22:00 31 17 1 182 (S) 490 - mcl 22:31 31 17 2 165 (SSE) 448 - mcl 23:02 32 17 1 181 (S) 401 - mcl 23:33 33 17 0 236 (SW) 380 - mcl 00:04 33 17 2 303 (WNW) 347 - mcl 00:34 35 14 5 281 (W) 319 - mcl 01:04 34 15 5 275 (W) 313 - mcl 01:34 34 14 11 297 (WNW) 297 - mcl 02:05 34 14 9 307 (NW) 270 - mcl 02:35 34 14 9 315 (NW) 315 - mcl 03:05 34 13 10 308 (NW) 280 - mcl 03:35 34 14 8 324 (NW) 330 - mcl 04:05 33 14 8 330 (NNW) 335 - mcl ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- 23:30 Doors open, fans on 00:45 Enclosure off 06:30 Enclosure on (heavy clouds) 11:00 Doors closed, fans off.
