APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Friday September 13, 2002 (MJD 52531) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Jurek Krzesinski (day) Mike Harvanek Eric Neilsen ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- We had problems with weather all night, but did manage to complete two plates. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- During the bias drift to check imager health in the afternoon, I noticed that the scrolling displays were still in a strange display state, presumably left over from when gScale was shaken. Dan had said things last night that suggested that this might be the case, so I was not surprised. While resetting them to a more reasonable state, I noticed that gScale was not working quite as desired. As the PR involved is still in the approved state, I went ahead and made the fix. In doing this, I ended up running several more bias runs. In one of the last of these, drive id6-2 had a write error and the clean tape light came on. I cleaned the tape, but apparently goofed in reloading it. As no data of any value had been taken so far, I just did a daTapeRelabel and loaded the tapes; all was fine after that. At sunset, there are patchy clouds and rain to the north and west; the rain to the north in particular makes us nervous enough to keep us from opening right away. At around 3:20Z, things finally look ike it might be safe to open, and we do. Sadly, things cloud up again and threaten to rain, so we close again before the first exposure is complete. After we close, it does rain. Things appear to clear off again at about 8:00Z, and we open with cartridge 9 mounted. We note the cover for the plastic left cartridge head cover was missing when we removed it from the bay. We needed to go to an fk5 star to get set up on cartridge 9. The clouds return, and interfere with setting up on the field. They eventually relent, and we get some good exposures to finish the plate.
