APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Friday March 28, 2003 (MJD 52727) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Swing: Atsuko Kleinman Night: Scot Kleinman Howard Brewington ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- We were unable to open because of clouds, high winds, and blowing snow; no data were captured. We gave up at ~10:45Z. The first calib of the afternoon failed; see problems section for details. We had a problem with the west door of the telescope enclosure; see problems section. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon ----------------- SP1 motor C is working. We refocused both r1 and r2 as recommended by Collimate. AZ Fid19 not reading so I used Fid18 to refiducialize. Atsuko found out that the telescope needs to be tracking in order for Watcher to show archiver status, even when one is taking bias. Night ____________________________________ No data because of clouds and high winds. Many thanks to the engineering staff for the nice dewar wrench and glove hangers. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3823 22:47Z 23:14Z 100 O -122.96 -116.26 59 ignore 3824 23:19Z 23:31Z 100 O -115.01 -112.08 34 ignore 3825 23:33Z 23:52Z 100 O -111.57 -106.64 47 ignore ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): y QA Procedures Done (y/n): y UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 20096, plate -9999 ------- 22:37 20096 0.0 bias ----- sequence 20097, plate 995 ------- 23:03 20097 10.0 flat 23:07 20098 2.1 arc 23:10 20099 2.1 arc 00:20 20100 2.1 arc 00:23 20101 2.1 arc 00:32 20102 10.0 flat ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: JLCloudy 1 Stays: JLCloudy 2 ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 22:34Z 19 10 26 49 (NE) 199 - cloudy 23:07Z 18 12 22 72 (ENE) 222 - cloudy 23:37Z 17 10 25 70 (ENE) 184 - cloudy 00:07Z 18 10 17 75 (ENE) 227 - cloudy 00:38Z 16 10 21 72 (ENE) 172 - cloudy 01:04Z 15 10 27 53 (NE) 146 - cloudy 01:20Z 15 9 22 62 (ENE) 156 - cloudy 01:52Z 15 10 30 72 (ENE) 169 - cloudy 02:24Z 15 9 33 70 (ENE) 160 - cloudy 02:56Z 15 9 24 67 (ENE) 165 - cloudy 03:29Z 15 9 33 71 (ENE) 149 - cloudy 04:01Z 14 8 29 72 (ENE) 174 - cloudy 04:33Z 14 8 25 80 (E) 185 - cloudy 05:05Z 14 8 27 70 (ENE) 198 - cloudy 05:38Z 14 8 23 68 (ENE) 192 - cloudy 06:10Z 14 8 18 68 (ENE) 182 - cloudy 06:42Z 14 8 24 69 (ENE) 225 - cloudy 07:14Z 14 7 19 69 (ENE) 208 - cloudy 07:46Z 14 6 19 68 (ENE) 204 - cloudy 08:19Z 14 5 13 66 (ENE) 217 - cloudy 08:51Z 14 4 16 65 (ENE) 223 - cloudy 09:23Z 14 0 30 61 (ENE) 200 - cloudy 09:56Z 14 2 28 67 (ENE) 177 - cloudy 10:27Z 13 2 4 83 (E) 206 - 11:00Z 12 3 5 91 (E) 259 - ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- Stowed at 121,30 degrees. So I did and all was fine. Collimate said all spectros were out of focus. Not surprising since sp1 col motor C was not working last night and it was worked on during the day. It is also much colder today at APO. The displayweaht says it is -8C before sunset and inside the enclosure it is 1.5C. Then we noticed that the murmurLog reported some NaN message as following althouh TMS was runnign and TMS messages showed that it knew which frame number it was transferring and the archivers knew which frames they were recording. It turns out that watcher will not tell us the archiver status unless you are tracking the telescope! Thank you Eric for helping me find out this. I must say I was shocked to find this out earlier (like 3 years ago).
