APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Thursday August 25, 2005 (MJD 53608) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Swing: Jurek Krzesinski Night: Howard Brewington Steph Snedden Kaike Pan Support: Kurt Biery Fritz Stauffer Eric Neilsen ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- More DA testing. Hopefully, collimation and a pointing model will get done as well. ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- * Checked that tccMon could read info from the TCC. It showed more info tonight than in Fritz's email earlier today. * Checked for TCC info in imager headers. We still have NaNs for position information. * Optical collimation adjusted. * Engcam optical center on the CCD was measured, and a small adjustment made to the instrument block. We tried for a pointing model, but the humidity had other plans. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- afternoon checkout: accidently we called bias drift with the imager in the dog house as "bias" not "ignore" as it should be. MCP bahaves a bad way: when we grab the semaphores and then released them with the MCP "restricted/full access" button, we were able to get semaphores back just by pressing the M (move) button. We tried that a couple of times, always with the same result. Evening: TCC: --- At first only the M1 numbers showed up in Howard's telrun session, but when he started a new session, he got values for both M1 and M2 (Wha????) tccMon test: ----------- After Fritz sent out his email about moving TCC from the public to the private side of the fence, we retried tccMon. I got a timeout message during setup, followed by TCC lines that had obviously gotten to devel1: Execute commands in /home/observer/.watcherrc: 0 watch> tccNode Timeout Lines collected so far: Last interactive login on Friday, 26-AUG-2005 02:55:51.52 0 0 I TrackAdvTime=3.71 0 0 I TrackAdvTime=3.71 0 0 I TCCStatus="TTX","NNN"; TCCPos=121.00,30.00,NaN; AxePos=121.00,29.70,0.00 0 0 I AxisErrCode="OK","OK","HaltRequested" 0 0 W AzStat=121.000606, 0.000000, 4631742019.10468, 0x00003800; BadAzStatus; Az DTime=0.0 0 0 W AltStat=29.704686, 0.000000, 4631742019.19028, 0x20003800; BadAltStatus; A ltDTime=0.0 0 0 W RotStat=0.000397, 0.000000, 4631742019.35018, 0x00003800; BadRotStatus; Ro tDTime=0.0; RotID=1, 0 0 0 I TrackAdvTime=3.71 0 0 I TrackAdvTime=3.71 0 0 I TCCStatus="TTX","NNN"; TCCPos=121.00,30.00,NaN; AxePos=121.00,29.70,0.00 0 0 I AxisErrCode="OK","OK","HaltRequested" 0 0 W AzStat=121.000602, 0.000000, 4631742029.10580, 0x00003800; BadAzStatus; Az DTime=0.0 0 0 W AltStat=29.704686, 0.000000, 4631742029.19034, 0x20003800; BadAltStatus; A ltDTime=0.0 0 0 W RotStat=0.000397, 0.000000, 4631742029.35039, 0x00003800; BadRotStatus; Ro tDTime=0.0; RotID=1, 0 Presuming success anyway! file3 watch> The first time I ran 'tccMonitor 1' I got the same results that Fritz detailed in his email. I did a "show obj" in my telrun session, and still got no update in tccMon. We'll have to wait for the DA phone con to see what he found out. Spectro Readout: --------------- Kurt continued work on the interrupted spectro readouts. There was no resolution to the problem tonight, but hopefully Kurt will have more info at the DA phone con tomorrow. Optical Collimation: -------------------- 05:32Z At this point, the weather had been holding steady and the building had ventilated long enough that we decided to go on-sky with the engineering camera for collimation and a pointing model. Of course, this immediately caused the humidity to start to climb and the wind to shift to the East. We continued on anyway, taking the time to train Kaike. The humidity held just under closing limit long enough to optically collimate. The collimate results with the engcam mounted: --------------------------------------------- Original positions: PriDesOrient: P0 Tx0 Ty0 Dx0 Dy0 0.00 4.56 1.00 65.0 -249.58 New setmir mirror values, after the tilt corrections made to get evenly illuminated donuts: P0, Tx', Ty', Dx0, Dy0: 0.00,12.56,-6.5,65.0,-249.58 Final new setmir coordinates: P0 Tx1 Ty1 Dx1 Dy1 0.0, -1.68, 7.05, 385.25, 92.02 These values were checked in to DEFAULT.DAT and loaded for the pointing model. We started to set up for a pointing model. The engcam center was checked and found to be different enough to warrant changing the engcam instrument block. The old values: IIm_Ctr 768 512 The new values: IIm_Ctr 768 533 As we got ready for the pointing model, the humidity went over closing conditions. We had to close. The humidty bounced around a bit, tempting us, but we weren't able to open again. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5517 23:01Z 23:24Z 100 O 28.71 34.51 43 bias really an ignore 5518 02:55Z 03:10Z 100 O 87.33 91.14 33 ignore 5519 03:48Z 03:58Z 100 O 100.62 103.34 32 ignore ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n):n QA Procedures Done (y/n):n UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 33486, plate -9999 ------- 23:00 33486 0.0 bias ----- sequence 33487, plate -9999 ------- 23:15 33487 0.0 bias ----- sequence 33488, plate -9999 ------- 23:24 33488 0.0 bias ----- sequence 33489, plate -9999 ------- 23:40 33489 0.0 bias ----- sequence 33490, plate -9999 ------- 23:50 33490 0.0 bias ----- sequence 33491, plate -9999 ------- 00:21 33491 0.0 bias ----- sequence 33492, plate -9999 ------- 00:42 33492 0.0 bias ----- sequence 33493, plate -9999 ------- 01:00 33493 0.0 bias ----- sequence 33494, plate -9999 ------- 01:11 33494 0.0 bias ----- sequence 33496, plate -9999 ------- 01:16 33496 0.0 bias 01:18 33497 0.0 bias ----- sequence 33498, plate -9999 ------- 01:22 33498 0.0 bias ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: JL Tapes?
