(Plate not done). Problems: - couldn't connect to the immager. - couldn't take bias/teamster too old. - tccmon not displaying lambda. - spectrograph voltage glitches. - plenty of nQuartile warnings. - plug mag file not copied from plate-mapper -> this is a second night in a row we had to copy a file from plate-mapper. Could someone check on that PLEASE? APO staff who plug the plates kindly checked for us if they do all things right (and they said they did), so we don't know what causes the problem? all in the log. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- AfternoonCheckout: ------------------ We lost connection to the camera (at lest for one hour) this afternoon. Telnet connection to t-g-sdss-2 2000 was refused. Steph, Fritz, Jim, Connie, Eric were called. While talking to Connie we suddenly were able to cc imstat and camcheck - connection was back on line. However we couldn't get bias. The complain was about teamster too old: im> teamster 60 imager -force The running teamster is too old. Attempting to restart Starting a new teamster; moving old one to the Meadowlands Error: Failed to kill old teamster, 32290 We tried to kill it, but with no success: observer 32290 0.2 0.0 0 0 pts/33 Z Nov05 3:34 [iop.bin ] Eric suggested that it it's because it's a child process and we need to kill all processes connected with it or exit all iop windows. Then Fritz called and he killed the zombie. New teamster was run and test bias was taken. Fritz says, that he couldn't telnet to t-g-sdss-2 2000 as well and it looked like someone was already logged there. We stopped the bias drift and tried to take another one - but the iop session just hung (ctrl+c did not work either). Eric called and we decided to reboot crates and restart servers. Well, that did not work. After two more attempts to run goDrift -bias, we exit from all iop windows and opened another one. Also we menaged to telnet to t-g-sdss-2 2000 and were watching ports: port 18 was available. We issued: goDrift -bias again. Port 18 was taken but goDrift did not work. This time however we were able to ctrl+c it: quitting if breakCheck called..., or tell me three times (2) Error: camera im init failure in the same iop window we grabInst -drop. 18 port was free again. Next goDrift -bias worked fine (run 5833). We don't know what/who fixed the problem. Another short bias drift also worked fine (run 5834). Dimm not opened due to the delay (besides we have clouds and couldn's see Polaris). Night: ------ Run 5833 bias on the telescope. 02:06Z SN night. We set for 82 S. Run 5835. skippy unhappy, the reason: the offsets from the previous night were not cleared. The drift was stopped, offects cleared, telescope reslewed. Run called ignore. 02:25Z Run 5836, stripe 82 S. Skippy happy run good since the beginning (seeing ~1"). Frame 11, lambda 115 - ramp starts, science begins at frame 25, lambda 117. 02:46Z nQuartileL CCD 52 counts: 41 (the others show over 1000). Frame ~40. The right was also complaining but we didn't see a red numbers on the nQuartileR display. 03:23Z Watcher complained about vt- Voltage. It apears to be CCD 04. We looked at the plot and what we see is nominal values set to: -8.54V +- 0.293. And there are some scattered points outside that range up to -8.05V, then everything goes below the error bar, however the mean value for CCD 04 seems to be -8.32V rather than -8.54V. 03:40Z Volage glitch again on CCD 04, this time its up to -8.16. Watcher shows: 03:40Z Frame 135, CCD 15, 16, 23, 25, 26 nQuartileR warning. The counts are 81, 773, 40, 153, 823 respectively. Then again nQuartiles got red, this time we just plot nQuartileL/R and looked at some frames, but did not find anything unusual in them (no bright objects). For those who want look deeper we stored some watcher plots on sdsshost2 as *.ps files: in observer's directory: ls nQuart* and you'll find the plots. Printing those plots might not be a good idea, try rather ghost or gimp to look at them. WARNING: tccMon display is not behaving properly. We don't see lambda values, but we can still see RA, so we know where we are. Kaike says, that he saw tccMon updated (showing lambda) when the telescope was slewed into another position. So maybe we don't see lambda on tccmon windows opened after the slew? 08:05Z Another voltage glitch this time on ccd 01 (vp3, vlg), we did check cc 1 vcheck but the problem has gone. 08:30Z ccd 01, 04 vt- : -8.14 and -8.14 -> watcher warnings (cc 1 and 4 vtcheck in the problem section). Then again and again. Nothing terribly wrong, but we need someone to look at spectro CCDs during the day. End of the science at frame 813, lambda -125, end of the ramp at frame 826, lambda -123. 10:35Z Stripe 82,S run 5835 ended. Switching to spectroscopy (nonphotometric). -------------------------------------------------- 11:05Z Problem on loading the plugMap file: sp1> SOPGUI: loadCartridge -latest 5 2268 /linuxp/prd/iop/v4_6_0b/params/cartridgeInfo.par I did not find any plugMap files matching plPlugMapM-2268*par This is a second night in a row when we see a file not copied from pale mapper (the plate was plugged on 53675). 10 minutes telescope time lost. After we slewed the telescope to the field tccMon showed lambda (so it seems that Kaike theory is right). cart 5 plt 2268 mounted. SOGTF. A guider fiber 9 on that plate got loose (we see a donut there while the other stars are sharp). We've got two exposures on that plate. Plate NOT done. Kaike was trying to update the Plate Data base and got the same error as yestarday (he's using firefox browser): Table user_action, attribute code, value not a member of user_user(code) while
