Visiting: Kaike Pan. by phone: French ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- This was the first night we opened, but due to problems with rotator which was aborting all the time we did not take the pointing model and had to close 2.5m telescope. French will try to fix the problem during the day, likely with Criag's help. Spectro dewars were refilled manualy at 12:30 am. Imager dewar has to be changed early in the morning. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon checkout: ------------------- No problems to report (Jim was wroking on imager and rebooted it). Night: ------ We looked at the mirror temperetures and it seems something is wrong with temperature sensors on the M1 front plate. 1/3 show themperature (telescope inside the enclosure) +1 C, some -1 C and some -6 C. M1 back plate seems to be fine and M2 temperature seems to be ok as well. While waiting for the weather to improve: PR 7054 Tested inside the enclosure (due to the weather). Steph found a segue stripe we can scan (290 N at mu 333). That was the second time it stopped at -67. Then again it stopped, so we moved the rotator manualy from MCP and rotator stopped moving at ~46 deg. We checked at the telescope what is wrong, but all looked fine. Finaly we called French and did some exercises of the rotator for him, but we did not solve the problem. The rotator was randomly aborting at different positions, most of the time when moving toward positive values. Maybe Craig can help to solve the problem. We decided to close the telescope and that's all we could do with 2.5m telescope on the sky tonight. Maybe we'll get more luck with PT?
