Problems: --------- -> Spectrographs r1 problem - see the afternoon checkout. One alt slip. -> Jurek is leaving to Poland (Krakow) - Steph filled a PR 7118, critical high. Time to say good bye, thank you :). ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon Checkout: ------------------- 2:00 Z.It is clear and almost photometric but still wet after yesterday's heavy rain. The temperature is around 9.5C, wind up to 30 mph, humidity 42%. All systems are checked and work fine. Spectro focus has been adjusted for T=8.5C. The current spectro flat looks normal. During checkout we had a problem with spectrograoh again. Post-calib gave us bad flat f=40715 and arc f=40716. SOS gave us alarm with low ngoodfiber=201 for r1 camera for flat, and arc reduction had been rejected at all. Visually the flat and arc of r1 camera were or out of focus or with fog or dust on the surfaces. We repeated arc observations with the same result. French and Steph checked the r1 triplet and CCD by removing r1, but did not find any problem with optics. Our next observations was bad as we lost the connections, and sos could not reduce the data, but visually we saw very good spectra on the displays. We repeted postcal with flat=40720, and arc=40721, and the results were very good. After that I checked and adjusted collimation for 8.5C. Apparently removing and replacing r1 somehow fixed the problem, but we have no idea how. We can only speculate that either a lens or the CCD shifted, and the illumination pattern looks like half an out-of-focus donut. Is this a tilt? If so, it must be a lens tilt, because the half-donuts are the same size over all the CCD. A before and after arc and flat have been saved to ~snedden on sdsshost2. They are called before_arc.fit, after_arc.fit, before_flat.fit and after_flat.fit. We've never seen anything like it. Night: -------- A little delayed opening due to high wind. 02:00Z cart 5 plt 2556 mounted. SOGTF. Scattered light, bad sky residuals, and other warnings on this plate. We've got 3 good exposures as well as pre and postcalibs. From what we see on QA checkout there is no problem with spectrographs. Yet we are not sure if we can trust the instrument after recent problems with it? - Plate NOT done. 04:20Z Imaget mounted. 04:15Z Slip alt abort happend when checking the telescope balance. The weather is photometric, seeing ~2". 04:21Z run 6383, 82 N, Started at lambda 141.5 (RA ~327). tcc timed out (took 4 minutes to get back). Frame 19, lambda 143 start of the ramp. Skippy is happy. In focus. We are observing at marginal closing condition (HIGH WIND), but since Jurek is leaving for Poland we decided to blame him for any bad things which might happen tonight :))). Actualy the wind speed at TPM display does not exceed 40 mph. Ltmatch does not work automaticaly, but it works from the command line. 08:31Z The weather is marginaly photometric now. 09:02Z Nonphotometric. After a frame 450 (lambda -152.5) we have non opaque clouds comming and going away and at 520 (lamba -142) clouds become thicker and some parts of the run might not be useful. 10:0Z The wind speed started to exceed 40 mph in gusts.
