APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Saturday December 9, 2006 (MJD 54079) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Kaike Pan Steph Snedden Visitors: Shi HuoMing (LAMOST) Chen JianJun (LAMOST) Jim Gunn Connie Rockosi Mike Carr and his enchiladas encantadas (red or green?) ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Shakedown - night 2 ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- High humidity for much of the night, but we were able to open long enough to get a pointing model. We are mostly ready for the dark run, although we never got to exercise the imager and spectrographs on-sky. Note to Norm: The spectro dewar will need swapping out when you get in. Either that, or Steph can do it on waking. Note to Howard: We left the engcam on, since we closed in a high-humidity-hurry. If you want a hand removing it in the afternoon, just ask. IOP v4_29_0 is now current. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: --------- Gave sdsshost2 it's monthly reboot and restarted all the host2 watcher and other monitoring sessions. We had a problem with a spectro fill during the afternoon. The spectros started a long fill while the pressure in the 180-liter dewar was low. Kaike went to the enclosure and saw that the sp1 intermediate dewar was full and spitting LN2, the lines were all thoroughly iced, but the sp2 intermediate dewar was not full. We believe all this was precipitated by the low pressure situation in the 180-liter dewar. After we built the presure back up there, we topped off both dewars and the fills stopped automatically without problems. Remounted the engcam for a pointing model. Night: ------ High humidity again. We waited. 00:49Z - humidity dropping. Bill opened the 3.5m and we started ventilating. 01:15Z - We opened. The humidity immediately rose. We closed. Bill accused us of causing the change in humidity. 08:00Z - Opened for the pointing model. We took the standard 72 point model. 10:21Z - Humidity went to the closure limit just as we took our last data point. Kaike's timing was perfect. Here are the pointing model results: Pointing model 12/09/06 Kaike and Steph * inmod tdat:telmod SYS$SYSDEVICE:[TCC.PTERR]PTERR_20061110.DAT;1 T 34 1.5803 IE -144.1960 IA -139.9216 PZZ1 -141.8845 AN +6.7210 AW -4.8123 CA +33.6117 HWCA2 +0.3941 HWSA2 -0.7122 HNCA1 +1.5023 HNSA1 -0.7421 ACEC +2.4661 ACES -2.1642 TX -4.6428 END * getdat PTERR_20061210.DAT;1 Read 71 data points * use * fit coeff change value sigma 1 IE -0.001 -149.52 1.066 2 IA +0.000 -140.73 1.175 3 PZZ1 -0.008 -137.89 3.537 4 AN +0.000 +9.15 0.369 5 AW +0.000 -9.30 0.365 6 CA +0.000 +33.01 0.868 7 HWCA2 +0.000 -0.37 0.477 8 HWSA2 +0.000 -0.79 0.491 9 HNCA1 -0.001 +0.01 0.552 10 HNSA1 +0.000 -0.98 0.554 11 ACEC +0.000 +2.18 0.676 12 ACES +0.001 -0.85 0.677 13 TX +0.004 -6.80 1.714 Sky RMS = 2.03 Popn SD = 2.24 *outmod tdat:telmod The end-of-night spectro fill was without problems.
