Craig was logged in to STUI and helped us out with some things (thanks, Craig) and details are in the Log section. When we did get open the seeing was no better than 2", but we did manage to take two BOSS science exposures (900s) on cartridge 11. The guider was guiding again tonight. We ran `Collimate' almost a dozen times throughout the night and the results are posted in the Problems section. Steph showed us a rough version of the web-based Log Tool. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon ========= 23:45Z - Restarted the servers on MONX3. 23:49Z - Started an imager bias. 23:56Z - We kept getting alerts about the TCC being dead in STUI (the actual critical alert had been acknowledged, but the STUI Log was still full of tcc.heartbeat messages). Jon had backed up the TCC earlier in the day, so it had been rebooted, but the connection between STUI and the TCC had not been re-established, so we issued 'hub startNubs tcc25m' and the alerts stopped and the connection came back. Once we did this, the tcc actor showed up in the STUI Log again as an available actor and the critical alerts ceased. The 45-deg. altitude fiducial was not read during the slew to zenith. The 92-deg. and 107-deg. azimuth fiducials were not read during the slew from 121 to 75. 00:15Z - Checked the mirror numbers. We ran `Collimate' a total of five times before r2 finally decided it was in focus. All five results are in the Problems section. 00:53Z - The imager critical alert was not critical. The imager server was trying to connect in ftelnet and it couldn't because we stopped the imager bias a while back, but were too busy interpretting `Collimate' results that we hadn't yet entered the info IOP was querying for about the imager run, so Alaina still had control of the imager. Once we entered the info IOP was requesting, the imager could be talked to again. We did a `cc imstat' to check things out and everything looked normal. We delayed opening because of nearby radar & lightning and clouds. We also had a brief period of rain. Paul ran the guider simulator with the frames from cartridge 10 last night and it was guiding correctly. He suspected that the new plPlugMap file generated today for cartridge 10 was the reason it worked, but then he didn't find any differences between it and the older plugMap file. He sent out an email describing these issues at 11:31 local time tonight, so check it out for details. Night ===== 03:30Z - Verified the STUI actors were alive and responsive. 04:35Z - Paul, on behalf of the ops software team and in recognition of the guider working, bestowed a new and much larger lava lamp upon us, fittingly named "The Boss". 05:45Z - The weather was looking better, but we still had lots of lightning to the east and south, although it was heading away from us. We started ventilating and force-filled the 10L dewars in preparation for opening as we waited for the lightning to continue moving farther away. 06:00Z - Opened. The lightning had gotten to ~90km away. Cart. 11 ******** activePlugging=11,3615,A,55093,37.0000,0.0000,0,5.0 06:18Z - sop doCalibs nflat=1 narc=1. Exposures 101873 (flat)& 101874 (arc). Despite this error: "Failed to close screens, warm up lamps, and slew to field.", the calibrations seemed to work just fine. 06:28Z - sop hartmann sp1 sp2 exptime=3. We decided to take another set of Hartmanns just to see if things have changed over the last few hours. The results are in the Problems section. The exposures are 101875-101877. 06:32Z - 75,6,7 We had a"right hartmann door timed out" error, but we checked the imager header and we did have HARTMANN= 'Right ', so perhaps the door just did not contact the switch that says it's closed? 06:51Z - Took a guider flat, opened the FF petals, turned the FF lamps off and started looking for stars. The DIMM was reporting seeing of ~5". 06:55Z - When we tried to adjust the focus using the Focus window from STUI, the window would hang and timeout even though TCCMon would show the focus had changed. (This happened a few times before we rebooted the TCC and we did not see this behavior after the TCC was rebooted.) 07:00Z - We had a problem that when Paul would start the guider, he would get a message that the TCC was slewing and then the guider would stop after only one frame. We did not see anywhere in the STUI Log that mentioned the TCC status was still slewing, in fact we saw TCCStatus="TTT", which we thought implied all three axes were tracking(?). 07:35Z - Paul also was unable to run the guider in the simulation mode, again getting the error about the TCC status was "slewing" and the guider stopping after one frame. 07:37Z - We decided to take another set of Hartmanns since the air temperature had dropped by ~6C since we opened. These are exposures 101878-101880. We got the same timeout error for the Hartmann door timout for the "right" position, but we verified that the imager header showed HARMANN= 'RIGHT '. 08:30Z - Paul figured the only thing causing the guider to stop was strange TCC behavior since his debugging of the guider and the guider actor could not change anything to make the guider realize that the TCC was not slewing. The TCC was rebooted, but then we had problems with the sop actor. 09:00Z - We had issues with the SOP actor that we could not gotoField. It was restarted and then we were able to gotoField properly. 09:23Z - Craig pointed out a "PrimDesMountOutOfRange="TTTFFF"" in the TCC and we did not see this in TCC later on during the night. 09:24Z - BOSS calibrations. Exposures 101883 (flat) & 101884 (arc). 09:40Z - boss exposure science itime=900. Exposure 101885. The seeing is still pretty bad, ~2" according to the DIMM. 09:57Z - boss exposure science itime=900. Exposure 101886. 10:14Z - BOSS calibrations. Exposures 101887(flat) & 101888 (arc). 10:15Z - The humidity really spiked and the air temperature dropped to near-freezing temperatures, so we closed immediately. We did some touch tests and didn't feel anything wet, just cold. The TPM showed the mirrors were still ~2C above ambient. 10:30Z - We decided to take another set of Hartmanns and run `Collimate' again since we were closed.
