APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Friday January 3, 2003 (MJD 52643) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Steph Snedden (swing) J. Krzesinski (night) H. Brewington C. Loomis (support) ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- Seven plates were completed, vis., 1078,1157,963,1072,905, 1000, and 935. However, we lost a few minutes because of cartridge 05; see the log. And, on special plate # 1150, we were able to get about half of the required S/N ratio. Landru froze once early in the night. Craig was here at the time and thinks he found the problem, i.e, a CPU had over heated. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Swing shift: Afternoon checkout went without problems. During opening flat field screen opened on its own again (MCP was rebooted yesterday). 00:48Z cart 1 plt 1078 mounted. Fk5 used (it was too bright). Done with two additional exposurse to the previous ones. Sos asked for postcalib after the second exposure, but since we didn't have to do the smear, we changed cartridges immediately after the second exposure and didn't wait for SoS to finish calculations. 02:10Z cart 6 plt 1072 mounted. Stars on slew. Done with three exposures. 03:37Z cart 2 plt 1157 mounted. Stars on slew. Done with tonight's and previous exposures. 04:59Z cart 4 plt 1150 mounted. Fk5 used to find guide stars. The seeing has become poor, i.e., 2.8. We collected 13.8 S/N for this special plate. Although SOS recommended a postcalib, we did not do it because we did not notice the postcalib request before the cartridge was changed. This was an Observer error. 07:13Z cart 9 plt 0935 mounted. Stars on slew. Seeing has improved slightly to 2.3. We've done postcalib, but SoS gave us a warning only to r2 chip of the second exposure and didn't complain at all on the next exposure: sdR-r2-00017814.fit: WARNING: Large flexure flat<->science (Post-calibs recommended!) Done in three exposures. 08:48Z cart 8 plt 0905 mounted. Stars on slew; seeing=2.5. Done in three exposures. 10:28Z cart 5 plt 0963 mounted. Stars on slew; seeing=2.5. We had a problem when mounting this cartridge. Although we got three green lights and heard three latch clicks, the cartridge was not securely fastened to the scope. This condition was noticed as we slowly lowered the lift. Because the two latches on the east side of the scope did not properly latch, the cartridge was hanging from the western latch, which caused the cartridge's base to become mislocated on the lift's locating pins. We checked the state of the slithead latches; both were retracted. Next, we relocated the cartridge on the lift's pins and reseated it. Once the cartridge was raised and positioned against the scope, we again got three greens lights and heard three latch clicks. This time, however, the cartridge was secure. We are not sure why this problem occured; we are sure that the cartridge was properly placed on the L-cart's locating pins. Could the day crew check this cartridge and maybe try to mount/unmount it a few times, plese? Plate done with three exposures 11:41Z cart 3 plt 1000 mounted. Fk5 used to find guide stars; seeing=2.5. Plate done with three exposures. EndNight finished and was happy. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 17790, plate 1078 ------- 01:16 17790 10.0 flat 01:18 17791 2.0 arc 01:41 17792 900.1 target 01:57 17793 720.1 target ----- sequence 17794, plate 1072 ------- 02:16 17794 10.0 flat 02:19 17795 2.0 arc 02:40 17796 900.1 target 02:58 17797 900.1 target 03:21 17798 1200.1 target 03:29 17799 240.0 smear ----- sequence 17800, plate 1157 ------- 03:49 17800 10.0 flat 03:51 17801 2.0 arc 04:10 17802 900.1 target 04:38 17803 1500.1 target 04:46 17804 240.0 smear ----- sequence 17805, plate 1150 ------- 05:03 17805 10.0 flat 05:05 17806 2.0 arc 05:42 17807 1800.1 target 06:15 17808 1800.1 target 06:48 17809 1800.1 target 06:56 17810 240.0 smear ----- sequence 17811, plate 935 ------- 07:13 17811 10.0 flat 07:16 17812 2.0 arc 07:40 17813 1200.1 target 08:03 17814 1200.1 target 08:21 17815 900.1 target 08:29 17816 240.0 smear 08:32 17817 10.0 flat 08:35 17818 2.0 arc ----- sequence 17819, plate 905 ------- 08:49 17819 10.0 flat 08:51 17820 2.0 arc 09:15 17821 1200.1 target 09:32 17822 900.1 target 09:56 17823 1200.1 target 10:03 17824 240.0 smear 10:06 17825 10.0 flat 10:09 17826 2.0 arc ----- sequence 17827, plate 963 ------- 10:29 17827 10.0 flat 10:31 17828 2.0 arc 10:51 17829 900.1 target 11:06 17830 720.1 target 11:26 17831 1000.1 target 11:34 17832 240.0 smear ----- sequence 17833, plate 1000 ------- 11:49 17833 10.0 flat 11:51 17834 2.0 arc 12:11 17835 900.1 target 12:33 17836 1200.1 target 12:51 17837 900.1 target 12:59 17838 240.0 smear 13:02 17839 10.0 flat 13:04 17840 2.0 arc ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 01:44Z 1 1078 0.26 0.0043 57.30 0.0019 180.16 0.0074 0.999830 02:38Z 6 1072 -2.21 0.0043 57.32 0.0019 178.07 0.0074 0.999830 03:57Z 2 1157 -2.74 0.0043 57.19 0.0019 177.63 0.0074 0.999860 05:39Z 4 1150 104.25 0.0011 60.41 0.0002 -96.15 -0.0091 0.999950 07:27Z 9 935 107.79 -0.0028 69.87 0.0014 -86.09 0.0026 1.000150 09:30Z 8 905 155.32 -0.0061 65.09 0.0025 -37.05 -0.0130 1.000210 10:50Z 5 963 172.63 -0.0083 74.70 0.0035 -9.31 -0.0299 1.000050 12:04Z 3 1000 -37.57 0.0027 58.81 0.0045 148.86 0.0087 1.000140 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: JL5879 Stays: JL5880 ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 00:17Z 1 1078 1.00000 0 1257 0 121 30.0 4.6 24 24 gdr 2.2 02:37Z 6 1072 0.99983 1678 2449 -100 -2 57.3 5.7 21 30 - 2.0 03:57Z 2 1157 0.99986 1381 2054 -250 -2 57.2 5.4 24 31 2.2 05:38Z 4 1150 0.99995 494 1331 -230 104 60.3 4.2 18 55 3.0 07:26Z 9 935 1.00015 -1480 -274 -180 108 69.5 5.2 19 37 2.3 09:02Z 8 905 1.00021 -2073 -770 -200 149 62.3 4.6 23 27 2.5 10:50Z 5 963 1.00005 -493 515 -200 173 74.7 4.8 16 34 2.2 12:03Z 3 1000 1.00014 -1381 -170 -180 -37 58.9 4.7 13 53 2.5 ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 22:29Z 43 9 16 14 (NNE) 53 - 23:02Z 41 8 23 15 (NNE) 43 - 00:33Z 41 10 30 17 (NNE) 24 - 01:07Z 41 11 25 19 (NNE) 16 - 01:39Z 42 9 19 15 (NNE) 20 - 02:11Z 41 9 24 16 (NNE) 24 - 02:43Z 42 8 19 21 (NNE) 14 - 03:17Z 42 11 16 25 (NNE) 34 - 04:12Z 40 13 19 25 (NNE) 25 - 04:47Z 39 14 18 20 (NNE) 27 - 05:17Z 39 15 22 30 (NNE) 20 - 05:48Z 41 15 21 35 (NE) 33 - 06:21Z 40 15 22 41 (NE) 17 - 06:53Z 39 16 20 38 (NE) 16 - 07:24Z 41 16 24 21 (NNE) 10 - 07:57Z 41 16 23 29 (NNE) 15 - 08:30Z 39 17 29 24 (NNE) 16 - 09:00Z 39 16 24 37 (NE) 26 - 09:12Z 39 15 22 32 (NNE) 20 - 09:31Z 40 14 8 54 (NE) 22 - 10:03Z 40 13 21 23 (NNE) 20 - 10:35Z 41 13 23 32 (NNE) 32 - 11:06Z 40 12 13 27 (NNE) 21 - 11:37Z 40 13 14 42 (NE) 11 - 12:08Z 40 11 16 34 (NE) 19 - 12:38Z 40 11 14 32 (NNE) 16 - 13:08Z 39 11 10 16 (NNE) 24 - 13:40Z 39 11 14 40 (NE) 18 - ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- 22:20Z - Cone fans & Blower on.
