APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Friday May 2, 2003 (MJD 52762) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Mike Harvanek Atsuko Nitta ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- Decent night of spectro observing. Clouds got thinner and thicker throughout the night. We finished 4 plates and good exposure on one. Atsuko experienced her first moth attack. Death to the moths! ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon ---------------- Spectros are in focus. All system checked out at home. Night --------- Lots of high cirrus. We start with spectro. Cartridge 2 Plate 1302 ----------------------- Afer focusing, the clouds thickened. We wait. There was a hole in the clouds and we got a 600s exposure with S/N^2 around 4. We got good second exposure and smear. We are half way done with this plate. Cartridge 3 Plate 1237 ------------------------ Surprisingly we had to fk5 (do you remember those days when fk5ing was a matter of fact?). We finished this plate in three exposures. Cartridge 5 Plate 1309 ------------------------ guideStars on gotoField. Big clouds moved in during the first science exposure. As SoS warns (Max sky-residual warning), expsoure spy spectra of sdR-r1-00020745.fit and sdR-r2-00020746.fit have a large spike at 5888A when we plot the sky using apoplotsky. The frames displayed on saoImage did not show anything peculiar. We don't know what to do about it nor do we know what causes it. r2 exsporues looks fine. Combined with the exposures from the previous night, we finished this plate. Cartridge 6 Plate 1283 ----------------------- guideStars on gotoField. We finished in three exposures. Cartridge 8 Plate 1325 ------------------------ guideStar on gotoField. We got data on this plate last night. Since we only had one exposure last night, we had to get two exposures tonight. The total s/n for this plate is very high. Cartridge 1 Plate 1334 ---------------------------- guideStar on gotoField. Right before starting the science exposure, the clouds thickened again. 10:38Z We give up and close. endNight ran and rejoiced. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3929 22:40Z 22:59Z 100 O -90.25 -85.54 45 ignore ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): QA Procedures Done (y/n): UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 20726, plate 1302 ------- 22:53 20726 10.0 flat 22:57 20727 2.1 arc 23:00 20728 2.1 arc ----- sequence 20729, plate -9999 ------- 00:06 20729 0.0 bias ----- sequence 20730, plate 1302 ------- 9.6 8.6 10.3 9.8 03:12 20730 10.0 flat 03:15 20731 2.0 arc 03:42 20732 600.1 target 04:00 20733 900.1 target 04:08 20734 240.0 smear ----- sequence 20735, plate 1237 ------- 18.8 18.0 15.9 16.6 04:28 20735 10.0 flat 04:30 20736 2.0 arc 04:50 20737 900.1 target 05:07 20738 900.1 target 05:22 20739 720.1 target 05:30 20740 240.0 smear 05:33 20741 10.0 flat 05:36 20742 2.0 arc ----- sequence 20743, plate 1309 ------- 12.7 9.5 12.3 8.4 05:51 20743 10.0 flat 12.2 9.8 11.2 8.6 (52751) 05:53 20744 2.0 arc ---------------------- 06:22 20745 1500.1 target 24.9 19.3 23.5 17.0 06:30 20746 240.0 smear 06:51 20747 900.1 target ----- sequence 20748, plate 1283 ------- 21.4 18.1 20.6 19.7 07:03 20748 10.0 flat 07:06 20749 2.0 arc 07:29 20750 900.1 target 07:42 20751 600.1 target 07:56 20752 607.2 target 08:04 20753 240.0 smear ----- sequence 20754, plate 1325 ------- 19.6 17.2 21.0 17.2 08:16 20754 10.0 flat 14.0 10.1 15.8 11.6 (52751) 08:19 20755 2.0 arc -------------------------- 08:38 20756 900.1 target 33.6 27.3 36.8 28.8 08:56 20757 900.1 target ----- sequence 20758, plate 1334 ------- 09:09 20758 10.0 flat 09:11 20759 2.0 arc 09:47 20760 900.1 target 10:06 20761 900.1 target 10:29 20762 0.0 bias ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 03:30Z 2 1302 -52.15 -0.0006 55.52 0.0012 137.73 -0.0122 1.000100 05:00Z 3 1237 -62.68 0.0034 48.40 0.0017 130.87 -0.0122 1.000290 05:56Z 5 1309 212.22 0.0032 57.71 0.0026 55.08 -0.0175 1.000060 07:12Z 6 1283 216.88 0.0032 68.67 0.0026 49.51 -0.0175 1.000130 08:21Z 8 1325 213.89 0.0032 61.34 0.0026 52.97 -0.0175 1.000040 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: JL6380 Stays: JL6381 ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 03:34Z 2 1302 1.00010 -986 48 -300 -53 54.9 11.9 14 222 gdr 1.4 05:00Z 3 1237 1.00029 -2863 -1435 -250 -63 48.4 10.8 9 243 gdr 1.9 05:55Z 5 1309 1.00006 -591 393 -275 212 57.7 10.7 15 212 gdr 1.8 07:12Z 6 1283 1.00013 -1283 -204 -275 217 68.7 9.7 16 212 gdr 2.0 08:21Z 8 1325 1.00004 -394 547 -275 214 61.3 10.1 11 265 gdr 1.7 ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 22:52Z 56 8 15 246 (WSW) 1260 - 23:23Z 60 11 15 254 (WSW) 1118 - 23:56Z 56 8 14 262 (W) 1352 - 00:27Z 58 8 21 241 (WSW) 1239 - 01:00Z 55 7 21 265 (W) 1310 - 01:32Z 52 4 12 241 (WSW) 1240 - 02:02Z 51 3 14 234 (SW) 1362 - 02:32Z 51 4 18 212 (SSW) 1192 - 03:03Z 52 4 17 215 (SW) 1180 - 03:33Z 53 5 15 233 (SW) 1158 - 04:05Z 52 5 15 234 (SW) 1192 - 04:35Z 51 3 11 238 (WSW) 1263 - 05:05Z 51 4 15 222 (SW) 1574 - 05:36Z 51 4 14 221 (SW) 2379 - 06:07Z 51 3 14 221 (SW) 1986 - 06:38Z 51 3 11 211 (SSW) 1712 - 07:10Z 49 3 16 222 (SW) 1738 - 07:42Z 50 2 15 245 (WSW) 1467 - 08:15Z 50 2 13 260 (W) 1501 - 08:47Z 49 1 12 261 (W) 1464 - 09:19Z 49 1 14 257 (WSW) 1584 - 09:51Z 49 0 9 245 (WSW) 1843 - 10:22Z 48 1 15 224 (SW) 2028 - 10:56Z 48 1 9 264 (W) 1769 - ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- 01:30Z Encosure open and fans on 10:45Z Enclosure closed and fans off.
