APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Tuesday May 20, 2003 (MJD 52780) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Daniel Long (APO; swing) Mike Harvanek (APO) Steph Snedden (APO) ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- The night was lost to weather. TPM v2_29_0 was declared current. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: ========== Note: Don't trust the PT dewpoint sensor value for dewpoint. It is incorrect. A PR has been filed, and it should get fixed tomorrow ( the electronics need tuning ). This afternoon the spectrographs were refocused. Below are the mean offset values from collimate before and after pistoning by -4500. Before After b1: -.49 -.17 b2: -.48 -.11 r1: .52 .19 r2: .48 .13 Final Piston Position ( note mechanicals rebooted yesterday ) sp1 sp2 motor A -4500 -4500 motor B -4500 -4500 motor C -4500 -4500 Something I forgot to mention yesterday. I had to reboot sir-robert yesterday due to the cursor active point offset. Night: ====== Various combinations of heavy clouds, high dust counts and high humidity throughout the night. We never opened. TPM v2_29_0 was declared current. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3947 22:46Z 22:55Z 100 O -70.99 -68.71 29 ignore ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): y QA Procedures Done (y/n): y Bias levels and other comments: r2-L: 553 r2-R: 1464 hot col 1475.5 two fibers cut off at upper right ( low row, high col ) r1-L: 1162 r1-R: 1216 hot col 1153.5 one fiber cut off at upper right b2-L: 1229 b2-R: 1205 fading hot col 1313.5 no fibers run off chip b1-L: 1242 b1-R: 1022 high col 154.5 no fibers run off chip UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 20990, plate -9999 ------- 22:44 20990 0.0 bias ----- sequence 20991, plate 1223 ------- 23:00 20991 10.0 flat 23:05 20992 2.1 arc 23:07 20993 2.1 arc 23:27 20994 2.1 arc 23:30 20995 2.1 arc ----- sequence 20996, plate -9999 ------- 01:21 20996 0.0 bias 01:27 20997 0.0 bias ----- sequence 20998, plate 1223 ------- 02:29 20998 2.0 arc ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: None Stays: None ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 22:15Z 50 40 4 283 (WNW) 2825 - Cloudy 22:48Z 52 40 7 322 (NW) 1998 - Mostly Cloudy 23:18Z 49 39 5 327 (NNW) 2660 - Mostly Cloudy 23:48Z 48 39 7 357 (NNW) 3378 - Cloudy 00:20Z 49 41 8 43 (NE) 3199 - Cloudy 00:53Z 48 43 4 77 (ENE) 1012 - Cloudy 01:25Z 46 40 3 191 (S) 2099 - Cloudy 01:32Z 47 40 2 144 (SE) 2220 - " 02:03Z 47 42 8 76 (ENE) 2118 - " 02:34Z 46 43 0 248 (WSW) 1908 - " 03:04Z 45 41 4 183 (S) 2239 - " 03:36Z 46 44 3 133 (SE) 2125 - " 04:09Z 45 43 6 112 (ESE) 2443 - Partly Cloudy 04:41Z 46 43 2 181 (S) 3556 - Partly Cloudy 05:13Z 44 44 6 110 (ESE) 4771 - Cloudy 05:45Z 44 44 7 97 (E) 14569 - Cloudy 06:17Z 43 43 0 217 (SW) 3222 - Partly Cloudy 06:50Z 48 42 4 268 (W) 4855 - Partly Cloudy 07:22Z 47 42 5 345 (NNW) 4401 - Cloudy 07:54Z 46 42 5 4 (N) 3349 - Cloudy 08:26Z 46 41 2 13 (NNE) 3154 - Cloudy 08:58Z 47 42 0 5 (N) 3006 - Cloudy 09:31Z 46 40 10 46 (NE) 2120 - Cloudy 10:01Z 48 40 7 24 (NNE) 3043 - Cloudy ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- Never opened due to weather. Craig and I looked at it this afternoon and found its mirror iced over. We removed the ice, but it continued showing incorrect dewpoint values. There were no error flags indicated, which likely means the servo loop is out of adjustment. Craig suspects the dewpoint electronics need a tune-up. In the mean time, use the 3.5m sensor to find dewpoint depression. APO PR 2003069 filed.
