APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Tuesday December 7, 2004 (MJD 53347) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Swing: Dan Long Night: Pete Newman Steph Snedden ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- A mostly cloudy night. We did manage to finish plate (1930) in the few brief clear patches. The disk on sos is getting full, thanks to the large archive of spectro frames and logs. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: ---------- Checkout went smoothly. No adjustments needed to spectrograph focus. Night: ------ 00:13Z We opened to partly cloudy skies for spectroscopy. 00:24Z Cartridge 8, plate 2058. SEGUE faint Since it was bright twilight, we went straight to an FK5. With offsets cleared, it was just off the edge of the fiber. 01:38Z The first exposure did not make (S/N)**2 > 2 ON r1, and the clouds were getting thicker so we paused. 04:18Z The clouds thinned enough for us to try another exposure after another set of cals. Unfortunately, the clouds didn't thin out enough. Still no good signal. 06:12Z Clouds became thick enough that we rolled the enclosure on and partially closed the doors. 09:48Z Reopened the enclosure to rapidly clearing skies 09:55Z Cartridge 4, plate 1930 - Survey Plate Guide stars offset by approx. 7 asec in RA, 7 asec dec with the old offsets still in. Disabled guide fiber 2 to avoid guiding on a hot pixel, also, no guide star in fiber 3, so we were guiding on 9 stars. 10:50Z: The clouds came back. 11:50Z: The clouds went away again. We managed to actually finish the plate at twilight with a total exposure of 3100 s, just as the dewpoint depression dropped below closure limits endNight -doSpectro -doTpm rejoiced. ********** SoS is throwing warnings about disk space on sos. We have data on there going back to 2002 (MJD 52391). We estimate we have enough room right now for an additional one to two week's data. We will check with TPTB before we start deleting data. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5030 22:14Z 22:26Z 100 O 119.78 122.78 34 ignore ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n):y QA Procedures Done (y/n):y UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 22:15 29716 2.1 arc ----- sequence 29717, plate -9999 ------- 00:10 29717 0.0 bias ----- sequence 29718, plate 2058 ------- 00:59 29718 10.0 flat 01:01 29719 2.0 arc 01:26 29720 1200.1 target bad 01:49 29721 1200.1 target bad 04:20 29722 10.0 flat 04:22 29723 2.0 arc 05:30 29724 1800.2 target bad ----- sequence 29725, plate 1930 ------- 10:13 29725 10.0 flat 10:15 29726 2.0 arc 10:38 29727 900.1 target 11:01 29728 1200.1 target 11:24 29729 1200.1 target 12:12 29730 1200.2 target 12:31 29731 1000.1 target 12:34 29732 10.0 flat 12:37 29733 2.0 arc ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 00:56Z 8 2058 76.85 0.0011 66.65 0.0026 244.43 0.0101 1.000260 04:19Z 8 2058 -77.31 0.0044 66.28 0.0003 115.14 0.0020 1.000100 10:24Z 4 1930 16.22 -0.0061 82.49 0.0019 195.02 0.0762 1.000210 10:35Z 4 1930 -4.61 -0.0061 82.75 0.0019 175.63 0.0762 1.000160 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: JL8128 Stays: JL8129 ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 00:56Z 8 2058 1.00026 -2566 -598 390 77 66.6 -1.1 13 288 - 1.2 04:18Z 8 2058 1.00010 -988 411 90 -77 66.3 -0.8 11 273 - 1.2 10:24Z 4 1930 1.00021 -2073 -400 200 16 82.5 -2.6 16 268 - 1.6 ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 22:18Z 30 11 14 330 (NNW) 65 - Cirrus 22:50Z 30 11 11 296 (WNW) 82 - Cirrus 23:23Z 30 11 13 297 (WNW) 47 - Cirrus 23:55Z 30 10 12 323 (NW) 81 - " 00:27Z 30 10 15 278 (W) 47 - " 00:59Z 30 9 12 280 (W) 50 - " 01:31Z 30 9 5 271 (W) 25 - mostly cloudy 02:02Z 30 10 7 270 (W) 30 - " 02:32Z 30 10 11 281 (W) 55 - " 03:04Z 30 10 16 296 (WNW) 27 - " 03:37Z 30 10 10 265 (W) 27 - " 04:08Z 30 8 15 294 (WNW) 45 - " 04:39Z 31 10 11 273 (W) 29 - " 05:09Z 29 9 16 283 (WNW) 47 - " 05:40Z 30 9 15 283 (WNW) 33 - " 06:10Z 29 11 18 299 (WNW) 35 - " 06:40Z 29 9 20 290 (WNW) 45 - " 07:12Z 30 7 19 279 (W) 40 - " 07:42Z 30 5 16 279 (W) 35 - " 08:13Z 30 7 16 275 (W) 48 - " 08:43Z 30 10 10 288 (WNW) 30 - " 09:14Z 29 10 18 291 (WNW) 51 - " 09:46Z 28 13 9 283 (WNW) 105 - mostly clear 10:16Z 27 16 13 282 (WNW) 180 - " 10:48Z 26 17 14 319 (NW) 200 - part cloudy 11:19Z 27 17 10 267 (W) 186 - " 11:49Z 26 18 18 269 (W) 219 - " 12:22Z 25 20 9 277 (W) 290 - mostly clear 12:53Z 25 20 15 296 (WNW) 358 - " ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- 22:55Z Doors Open, Fans On 00:13Z Enclosure off. 06:12Z Enclosure on.
