It improved around 07:45Z with only scattered clouds until another band came through starting around 11:30Z. Finished 4 plates (2079, 2085, 1938, 1752). Good signal on another plate (2062). Dimm did not appear to be tracking properly as Polaris would move out of the field of view. Steph investigated and thinks it may be a software problem related to the clock update she performed last night. We will try it again after restarting the software tomorrow night. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon checkout: ------------------- r2 Xsigma on flat: 30281, was yellow. After the spectrograps were focused flat filed parameters went back to spec see the file 30285 (the ambient temperature was 5.6 C). No problems to report. Night: ------ When moving the telescope to open, Steph noticed that an axis init in the tcc had no affect. She then saw that the mcp was "unavailable". There was a warning in the watcher about that time that she believes corresponded to this situation: failed to take semMEI: S objLib OBJ TIMEOUT (3997700) (2005-01-09 00:10:00Z sdssmcp) (failed to take semMEI: S_objLib_OBJ_TIMEOUT (3997700) (2005-01-09 00:10:00Z sdssmcp): 2005-01-09 00:10:16Z ) On its own, the mcp became available a few seconds later and the axis init was executed. Steph did another axis init just to make sure and all was well. We also had a windscreen touch while getting ready to open: altitude (Windscreen touched in altitude: UP (2005-01-09 00:19:03Z sdssmcp): 2005-01-09 00:19:17Z) Lots of clouds at sunset. We attempt spectroscopy. Plate 2062 (cartridge 2): Segue faint. Due to sky brightness an FK5 was used to acquire the field. During the focus sweep, a guider frame did not arrive in a timely manner and this caused all of Steph's tk based windows (sopGUIs, error message window, etc) to lock up. She started another sop session to solve the problem. The first exposure was declared bad (clouds). The clouds thinned a bit and we were able to get 4 good exposures (6300 sec total) but it was not enough to finish this plate. Plate 2079 (cartridge 9): Segue faint. There may have been a guide star at the edge of one fiber on the gotoField. Offsets were cleared but no guide stars appeared. An FK5 was used to acquire the field. The first exposure was declared bad (clouds). The 2nd exposure was usable but it looks like it has "multiple" sky levels in both r1 and r2. Issue the following in idlspec2d on sos to see what we are talking about: apoplotsky, 30303, camname='r1' apoplotsky, 30303, camname='r2' Perhaps a sky fiber is too close to a whopping fiber??? Frames 30304 - 30306 show varying degrees of this behavior as well. Frames 30309 - 30311 do not. Note that the frames that show this behavior have lower signal than those that do not. We obtained 7 good exposures (9600 sec total) on this plate and finished it. Plate 2085 (cartridge 6): Survey. Guide stars on the gotoField. When combined with previous data (53371), this plate was finished in 2 exposures (1500 sec total). Plate 1938 (cartridge 4): Survey. Guide stars on the gotoField. This plate was finished in 3 exposures (3000 sec total). Plate 1752 (cartridge 5): Survey. Guide stars on the gotoField. Guide fibers 1 and 5 were disabled because they were guiding on something other than their stars. The 2nd exposure was declared bad (clouds). This plate was finished in 3 good exposures (3300 sec total). Dimm troubles.
