APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Thursday April 28, 2005 (MJD 53489) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Swing: Dan Long Night: Steph Snedden Mike Harvanek Support: Connie Rockosi (by phone) ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Shake Night 2/Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- All shake items completed except for on-sky imager tests (aliveness and collimation). iop/sop v3_147_0 declared current. The night was lost to high dust, high wind and/or clouds. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: ---------- Specmech reverted to previous version during the day. No problems with the afternoon check. Spectrograph focus checked and not changed. Best focus still set for approximately +6 C (unchanged from what it was set to during spectro monthly checkout). This is in reasonable agreement with the PMSS temperature assuming sp1 is a degree warmer than sp2 as was noticed on the two days when actual spectrograph temperatures were available. Details in the problem section. Night: ------ We got "wrong number of pix" VME errors during an initial spectro bias. See the Problems section for details. Note that this occurred shortly after restarting the servers. We did not see this error in any of the biases that followed. High wind and dust prevented early ventilation and delayed opening. We verified that the PT flat field lamp was changed. We cleaned up the engcam folklore. Steph worked on finishing up Connie's goStare tests but the final test could not be completed due to the known PTVME problem with binned imaging goStares. Steph made 3 attempts at the final test but each time it resulted in crates (astro, photo 1 & 2) being rebooted and servers being restarted. Details are in the Problems section. We called Connie. She told us to forget about this last test. She was satisfied with all other testing (done both last night and tonight) and considered it to be a success. Thus, we declared iop/sop v3_147_0 current. We never opened due to high wind, dust and/or clouds. endNight was run onto cloudy night tapes. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5288 22:29Z 22:43Z 100 O -96.63 -93.08 34 ignore 5290 04:04Z 04:12Z 100 O -12.45 -10.42 25 ignore 5292 04:47Z 04:55Z 100 O -1.71 0.20 27 ignore 5294 05:40Z 06:06Z 100 O 11.55 18.09 41 ignore ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): YES QA Procedures Done (y/n): NO UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 32347, plate 1841 ------- 23:02 32347 10.0 flat 23:05 32348 2.0 arc 23:10 32349 2.1 arc 23:12 32350 2.1 arc ----- sequence 32351, plate -9999 ------- 01:06 32351 0.0 bias ----- sequence 32352, plate -9999 ------- 01:41 32352 0.0 bias 01:46 32353 0.0 bias 01:50 32354 0.0 bias ----- sequence 32355, plate -9999 ------- 04:22 32355 0.0 bias ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: None Stays: None ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 22:43Z 51 18 20 252 (WSW) 1415 - Mostly Clear 23:15Z 54 18 22 266 (W) 1420 - Mostly Clear 23:48Z 54 17 22 235 (SW) 1554 - Mostly Clear 00:20Z 53 13 30 266 (W) 2585 - Partly Cloudy 00:52Z 52 13 32 259 (W) 2366 - Partly Cloudy 01:28Z 50 12 32 251 (WSW) 3342 - Partly Cloudy 01:58Z 49 11 32 253 (WSW) 3570 - Partly Cloudy 02:29Z 48 11 29 238 (WSW) 3060 - Mostly Cloudy 03:01Z 47 10 23 245 (WSW) 2986 - Mostly Cloudy 03:33Z 46 12 23 266 (W) 3134 - Mostly Cloudy 04:06Z 45 13 13 254 (WSW) 2670 - Mostly Cloudy 04:39Z 44 14 20 270 (W) 2493 - Mostly Cloudy 05:10Z 43 15 23 268 (W) 2006 - Mostly Cloudy 05:43Z 42 14 23 272 (W) 1977 - Mostly Cloudy 06:16Z 41 17 27 268 (W) 1927 - Mostly Cloudy 06:48Z 40 17 18 268 (W) 1962 - Mostly Cloudy 07:20Z 40 18 27 266 (W) 1707 - Mostly Cloudy 07:52Z 40 17 35 276 (W) 1412 - Mostly Cloudy 08:24Z 39 17 29 268 (W) 1403 - Mostly Cloudy 08:57Z 38 17 23 280 (W) 1443 - Mostly Cloudy 09:29Z 38 17 22 253 (WSW) 1325 - Mostly Cloudy 10:01Z 37 18 16 270 (W) 1316 - Mostly Cloudy 10:33Z 37 17 7 269 (W) 1281 - Mostly Cloudy ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- 06:10Z Enclosure doors opened, fans and blowers on, louvers opened. 10:45Z Enclosure doors closed, fans and blowers off, louvers closed. We retried the test, first making sure we could get a normal unbinned bias drift, but saw the same PTVME problem for the astro crate. We called Connie to make sure that 1) she was happy with last night's tests (she was), and 2) that there wasn't anything more she would like us to do with the binned goStare test. There wasn't, so that ended the imager goStare testing.
