APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Sunday September 4, 2005 (MJD 53618) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- John Barentine Steph Snedden Support: Rick Kessler ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Supernova Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- Cloudy/rainy/humid all night. Never opened. We have a recurring problem in the DA involving incorrect sensing of the cal lamp state or an actual intermittent in a lamp. Also, the servers died tonight when photo node 1 became unhappy. See Problems. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon --------- No issues. We had some trouble with the imager dewar we swapped in during checkout. The dewar we put on the imager had >300 lbs weight and about 24 psi when it was outside. The imager tried to start a fill during the swap which we stopped with a cc stopfillseq. After connecting it and opening valves, it read a rather low (14 psi) pressure. The web plot of dewar weight and pressure vs. time shows that the pressure on the dewar we removed had been steadily dropping for hours; we suspect a bad dewar and note frost on its outside. Steph opened the pressure building valve on the new dewar which helped bring the pressure up a couple of psi. Spectro focus was checked but not adjusted. We once again saw the "only three lamps" phenomenon as last night. A PR has been filed. All lamps appeared to come on during checkout but we don't know if a transient dropout of one of the lamps is actually causing the problems. Would the engineers please have a look? Night ----- Rain in the late afternoon followed by continued overcast skies and high humidity kept us closed. Sky remained cloudy all night with high humidity. We never opened. Called it at 10:30Z. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5568 23:37Z 23:53Z 100 O 47.58 51.80 42 ignore 5569 01:56Z 02:22Z 100 O 82.50 88.98 52 ignore ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): QA Procedures Done (y/n): UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 33830, plate -9999 ------- 23:50 33830 0.0 bias 00:25 33831 0.0 bias ----- sequence 33832, plate 2260 ------- 00:49 33832 10.0 flat 00:51 33833 2.0 arc 01:18 33834 2.1 arc 01:20 33835 2.1 arc 08:19 33836 10.0 flat 08:21 33837 2.0 arc 08:25 33838 2.0 arc 08:28 33839 2.0 arc 08:30 33840 2.0 arc 08:33 33841 2.0 arc 08:35 33842 2.0 arc 08:37 33843 2.0 arc 08:39 33844 2.0 arc 08:43 33845 2.0 arc 08:45 33846 2.0 arc 08:47 33847 2.0 arc 08:49 33848 2.0 arc 08:52 33849 2.0 arc ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: JL Stays: JL ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 23:28Z 54 52 6 104 (ESE) -9999 - Overcast 00:00Z 55 52 8 141 (SE) -9999 - Overcast 00:30Z 55 53 11 128 (SE) -9999 - Overcast 01:01Z 54 53 12 127 (SE) -9999 - Overcast 01:31Z 52 53 17 125 (SE) -9999 - Overcast 02:02Z 52 53 13 121 (ESE) -9999 - Overcast 02:34Z 52 53 10 108 (ESE) -9999 - Overcast 03:06Z 52 53 13 111 (ESE) -9999 - Overcast 03:38Z 52 51 8 94 (E) -9999 - Overcast 04:12Z 52 50 14 127 (SE) -9999 - Overcast 04:42Z 51 49 13 165 (SSE) -9999 - Overcast 05:15Z 51 49 15 135 (SE) -9999 - Overcast 05:47Z 51 49 15 133 (SE) -9999 - Overcast 06:19Z 52 49 16 137 (SE) -9999 - Overcast 06:51Z 52 50 10 179 (S) -9999 - Overcast 07:23Z 52 50 8 180 (S) -9999 - Overcast 07:55Z 52 50 9 183 (S) -9999 - Overcast 08:26Z 51 50 9 198 (SSW) -9999 - Overcast 08:57Z 51 50 9 186 (S) -9999 - Overcast 09:28Z 51 50 8 184 (S) -9999 - Overcast 10:00Z 51 51 7 188 (S) -9999 - Overcast 10:32Z 51 51 7 204 (SSW) -9999 - ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- Telescope is parked at 121,30 with Cart 8 (Plate 2260) mounted Counterweights at 250 Spectro autofill connected No interlocks bypassed Dewar weights at 10:45Z Imager: 220lbs 17psi Spectro: 116lbs 25psi Imager pressure seems to have stabilized and we think the dewar is okay. ---=== SOFTWARE USED ===--- IOP/SOP: iop Watcher: watcher MCP: v5_26_0 TPM: tpm_v3_0_0 AstroDa: biery TCC: v2.7.2.1 sdssProcedures: v2_03 SoS: v4_10_7 hoggPT: v1_6_9 plate-mapper: v4_3_1 ---=== MIRROR NUMBERS ===--- PRIMARY: -------- Scale: 1.000000 MIGS TONIGHT NOMINAL Axial A -5.8430 -5.8440 Axial B -5.6760 -5.6770 Axial C 0.9420 0.9420 Trans D -9.9930 -9.9940 Lateral E 10.3759 10.3759 Lateral F 11.9380 11.9380 GALILS Commanded: 4700. -2450. 3000. -7800. 3300. 3000. Looking at the murmur log after it came back up, error messages indicated a DA problem. Photo node 1 was unhappy for reasons that are not clear. Rebooting the photo nodes made the servers come back (i.e.,a start_servers -K worked). Oddly there were no warnings during the bias we took in the afternoon.
