Imaged superNova stripe 82 N from +111 < lambda < -125 through mostly moderate cirrus, leaving us to wonder just how much of the data will be useful. Rounded out the night with imaging of Legacy stripe 18 N from -64 < lambda < -41 in survey-quality conditions. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon --------- The afternoon checkout was uneventful for the most part. We did need to copy some plugMapM files to host2, though. The spectro focus was checked, found to be within spec, so not adjusted. Night ----- For some reason when I took over the log from Howard tonight, nearly all of the section headers were missing. Didn't notice this until after he had left for the night. The night started out partly cloudy with almost calm winds and low humidity. We mounted the imager around 00:20Z and took an on-telescope bias (Run 5846) in the dark enclosure as we waited for twilight to end. 01:16Z Run 5747 (SN Stripe 82 S, startLambda=+111). Skippy was happy and focus was good from the start of the run. Seeing was pretty good to start with, subarcsecond on many chips, helped along by the light cirrus. We had clouds on and off for most of this stripe, but their density varied significantly. It started around Frame 87 (lambda=+123.6, RA=308.6) and carried on until finally around Frame 600 when the sky mostly cleared for the remainder of the scan. The ramp down began at lambda=-125 (Frame 838, RA=61), and we ended the drift at 09:44Z (Frame 857, lambda=-121.2, RA=63.8). The sky was mostly photometric at the end of this last stripe with the exception of a couple of little puffs of cloud in the SW. We took a gamble on filling the remaining couple of hours of the night with a Legacy stripe, knowing that it was still early enough to bail out and finish a plate beore twilight if necessary. 09:50Z Run 5748 (Legacy Stripe 18 N, startLambda=-68). Conditions were right on the edge of being acceptably photometric when we began this stripe, and we hoped they would be solidly photometric by the time science began. Skippy was happy and we were in focus from the start of this run. Seeing improved from the beginning and settled down to just over an arcsecond by the time science started at 10:04Z (Frame 35, lambda= -64). There were definite clouds to interfere with this stripe, so we ended it at 10:11Z (lost the frame number on the scrolling displays) and called it "ignore". 10:12Z Run 5749 (Legacy Stripe 18 N, startLambda=-66). This run looked good at the start; skippy was happy and we were in focus from the beginning. The sky was mostly clear but for a few faint wisps of cloud along the northern horizon; seeing remained steady at around 1.3 arcsec. Skies remained photometric and seeing sufficient to call this run good. We ramped down beginning at Frame 177 (lambda=-41) and ended the drift at 12:10Z (Frame 203, lambda=-37). Closed for the night at 12:30Z. endNight rejoiced, although we ran it before getting morning PT twilight flats. We chose to do this because the PT observed no secondary patches tonight and the sky was not photometric long enough to get a solution.
