Steph's 3 flats per dither version of specFlat was tested using cartridge 9. Frames 40989-41033 are the flats, 34 and 35 are the arcs. Autofill tried filling some more a short time after finishing when we opened. Currently in the off position as requested by French. Run 6458 imaged 82 S lambda 170 - -128 frames 27 - 438 incl ramps Median seeing ranged from about 1.5 to 2.3 with seeingRun calling it bad most of the time. Skies were clear throughout. Imager dewar will need changing this morning. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: ---------- 21:10Z - turned spectro autofill from OFF to AUTO. It immediately started autofill on sp2 (T_CCD1,4=-92 C,-91 C; T_CCD_2,3=-92 C,-90 C). Filling stopped automatically after taking about 10 lb. Telescope has been checked. All systems work fine. MCP says the sp2 door is closed when it is open. Cycling the door from the MCP Menu got the state and status to agree. Spectro Collimation has been done. Focus is set for expected night temp.= +7.5 C Night: ------ 01:30Z High Humidity and clouds keep us closed at the start of the night. Put cartridge 9 2422 on for more spec flats. Trying the new code for multiple exposure spec flats. Found r2's XMAX in the red at 2071 for cartride 9 (it was 2064 for cartridge 8). Maybe all this spec-flatting has caused the collimator encoders to lose a few counts. It seems to have crept up over the last few days. It was adjusted down 15 pixels. Mike's notes follow. Original collimator motor positions before the start of the dithered flats: sp1 Coll_motor_A -5415 Coll_motor_B -5220 Coll_motor_C -5909 sp2 Coll_motor_A -4937 Coll_motor_B -5720 Coll_motor_C -6137 A postCal before the start of the dithered flats showed the r2 xmax value to be in the red. So, we adjusted the left-right positioning of the fibers for sp2: sp2> mechMoveColl 1500 1500 -1500 The new sp2 collimator motor positions before the start of the dithered flats are: sp2 Coll_motor_A -3437 Coll_motor_B -4219 Coll_motor_C -7637 We used a modified "specFlat 15" command that takes 3 exposures at each dithered position (i.e., at each collimator motor position), rather than just one. Cartridge 9, plate 2422 was used for these dithered flats. The relevant frames numbers are 40989 - 41033 for the flats themselves and 41034 - 41035 for the arcs. After the dithered flats were completed, the collimator motor positions were checked and found to be almost identical to the positions before the start of the dithered flats: sp1 Coll_motor_A -5415 Coll_motor_B -5220 Coll_motor_C -5909 sp2 Coll_motor_A -3438 Coll_motor_B -4220 Coll_motor_C -7637 So, we have now obtained all 5 sets of dithered flats requested for this dark run and it appears that the new "3 for 1" specFlat 15 command works as it should.
