Variable seeing. Imaged 82 S from lambda +108 to -152.7 and from -157.5 to -122.8 (including ramps). A rotator abort was the (eventual) reason that this was split into 2 runs. We obtained good data for plate 2436. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: ---------- Outside temp is 3C, wind speed 11mph, partly cloudy. After I took a spectro postcal SOS complained that it couldn't reduce the arc (41375) because there wasn't a corresponding flat. When I tried to take another postcal SOP warned me that SOP and the DA had conflicting exposure numbers. I aborted the postcal and took another bias while forcing SOP and the DA to label the exposure 41376. Then I took a postcal and it was fine. Found the wavemax for r2 and b2 were off (red) but r1 and b1 were fine. The wavemax was corrected and the spectro focus set to 3C. There were half a dozen arcs with 3 s exposure times this afternoon. Night: ------ We mounted the imager shortly before sunset and closed up the building for an on-telescope bias (00:18Z, run 6554). 00:45Z Removed the enclosure. 01:13Z Run 6555: 82 S, start lambda +108. Skippy good from the beginning. Focus good by frame 15. Seeing 2" +/- .3". Ramp begins at frame 42 (lambda +113). Science begins at frame 56 (lambda +115). 01:48Z Rotator abort at a position of 50:06:08. We let the drift continue. 07:49Z Ended run 6555 due to the fact that the rotator abort finally caused the rotator offset (thetaf) to reach the limit at which pointing needs to be corrected. The run ended at frame 671, lambda -152.7. Most of this run had good/acceptable seeing and all of this run should be usable except possibly frames 59 - 89 (lambda 115.4 - 120.0) which had seeing > 2.4". 07:51Z Run 6556: 82 S, start lambda -157.5. Everything (skippy, focus, seeing) good (enough) from the beginning. Note that the nu error is > 8" (8.2") at the beginning of this run. It remained > 8" throughout. The run ended at frame 239, lambda -122.8. All of this run should be usable although the seeing for the last 60 frames was a little ratty. Moon, seeing, clouds so we switched to spectroscopy after finishing 82 S. 10:23Z Plate 2436 (cartridge 4), survey. After re-applying the pre-imaging offsets, guide stars were found pretty much dead center in their fibers. Variable seeing and clouds hampered efforts. We obtained 3 good exposures (4200 sec total). A 4th exposure (1500 sec) was not usable. A postCal was obtained as requested by SoS.
