APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Saturday September 29, 2007 (MJD 54373) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Swing: Kaike Pan Night: Howard Brewington Dan Oravetz ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- SN Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- We were closed for thunderstorms for the first few hours and then closed for high humidity the last few hours. When we weren't closed for weather we imaged 82 N under mostly photometric skies. Imaged 82 N from lambda = 125 to lambda = 144 including ramps. We ended this drift at lambda = 144 because of threatening clouds. Imaged 82 N from lambda = 137 to lambda = 178 to overlap with the first run because clouds moved in towards the end of the first run. We ended this drift at lambda = 178 because of high humidity. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: ---------- No problems to report. Swapped the imager dewar. 23:23Z - Began ventilation. Doors open partly, louvers open, fans on. Night: ------ 00:37Z - Thunderstorms moving in. Stopped ventilation. Doors and louvers closed, fans off. 02:50Z - The humidity has dropped and the rain has moved away. Lightning is beginning to move away, as well. Began ventilation. Doors and louvers open, fans on. We also started a LN2 fill of the spectrographs in anticipation of opening very soon. 03:15Z - The open/close valve on the spectro dewar and the connectors on the fill lines were frozen solid enough that we needed to use a heat gun on both the valve and the connectors before we could turn off the valve and remove the fill lines. 03:28Z - Mounted imager. 03:40Z - Enclosure off. Run 7003, 82 N ************** 03:53Z - Started goDrift at lambda = 123. Focus good from frame 18. The altitude is 50.07 degrees corresponding to an airmass of ~1.3. 04:01Z - Started ramp-up at frame 18, lambda = 125. 04:09Z - Started science at frame 31, lambda = 127. Skippy was not finding many stars until about frame 35 (i.e. we were getting less than about 10 stars when running skippy on 4 frames on many different attempts of skippy up to about frame 35). Running skippy on frame 35 for 4 frames produced 131 stars and from there on out skippy seemed happy. 04:35Z - nuErr = 11.7" and muErr = 20.7". We have been getting these values to within ~.1" since we began running skippy and even since skippy seemed happy at around frame 35. 05:06Z - Clouds moved into the field at frame 129. 05:15Z - Ended the drift at lambda = 143.80 because of threatening clouds moving in. The last frame was 143. Once the imager was mounted and we got on sky, we had photometric skies until 04:35Z when a few scattered clouds moved through (but did not seem to disrupt the imaging). The sky was photometric again from 04:45Z - 05:00Z and then clouds moved into the field. During the run the DIMM was reporting seeing around 0.90" - 1.40". 05:22Z - Enclosure on. Still ventilating, but doors only open part of the way. 05:52Z - Closed the doors on the enclosure so that we could take the on-telescope imager bias while we're waiting for the clouds to clear. 05:55Z - Run 7004 is the on-telescope imager bias; 31 frames. 06:20Z - Enclosure off. The clouds have mostly cleared out. Run 7005, 82 N ************** 06:26Z - Started goDrift at lambda = 137. 06:32Z - Ended the drift at frame 15 because ad4 was not responding. We rebooted the astro crates and they came back to normal. Run 7006, 82 N ************** 06:36Z - Started goDrift at lambda = 137. Focus good from frame 13. The altitude is 40.44 degrees corresponding to an airmass of ~1.54. 06:41Z - Started ramp-up at frame 13, lambda = 138.2. 06:49Z - Started science at frame 27, lambda = 140.2. The number of stars skippy finds is still jumping around quite a bit. Skippy found 54 stars when it ran on frame 24 for 4 frames, but only 2 stars when it ran on frame 23 for 4 frames. 07:03Z - nuErr is better this time (compared to run 7003) at nuErr = 3.0", but muErr is still relatively high at muErr = 26.8". Again, we've been getting these values since we started running skippy on the first few frames up until present. 09:18Z - Ended the drift at frame 277, lambda = 177.80 because of humidity (83%) and dewpoint depression (2.7C). We gave the weather about half an hour to recover, but the humidity slowly kept rising and the dewpoint depression slowly dropped. The sky was photometric for about 5 minutes after we started the drift at lambda = 137. A few light clouds moved through thereafter, but didn't seem to pass through the field. The sky became photometric again about 07:05Z and remained photometric until the end of the drift, except for a very small hiccup at 08:10Z. The DIMM reported seeing between 0.9" and 1.2" during this run. 09:27Z - Enclosure on, doors and louvers closed, fans off. 11:25Z - Humidity still high and dewpoint depression still low, so we're calling it a night. 11:35Z - endNight rejoiced. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7002 22:50Z 23:13Z 100 O 59.92 65.73 53 ignore 7003 03:53Z 05:15Z 82 N 123.50 144.06 151 science 7004 05:54Z 06:15Z 100 O 166.36 171.46 48 bias 7005 06:27Z 06:32Z 82 N 137.25 138.51 23 science (ignore; rebooted ad4) 7006 06:37Z 09:19Z 82 N 137.32 182.06 285 science ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7003 7 4 0 0.000 0.000 0.000 0.000 -0.00000 0 0 7003 74 4 91 20.700 0.124 11.900 0.126 0.02670 202 55 7003 140 4 60 21.100 0.094 11.800 0.120 0.02689 202 55 7006 7 4 0 0.000 0.000 0.000 0.000 -0.00000 0 0 7006 57 4 57 26.900 0.151 3.100 0.178 0.01552 237 40 7006 107 4 55 26.200 0.146 2.400 0.126 0.01492 237 40 7006 160 4 39 26.500 0.128 2.100 0.126 0.01600 237 40 7006 211 4 44 26.600 0.157 1.900 0.176 0.01512 237 40 7006 263 4 32 26.800 0.138 1.900 0.164 0.01490 237 40 ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 7003 33 1 55 337 61 -0.585 0.153 -8.041 0.106 0.02703 7003 33 1 55 337 68 -0.678 0.130 -7.825 0.186 0.02631 7003 33 1 55 337 71 -0.688 0.158 -7.511 0.161 0.02525 7003 33 1 55 337 69 -0.827 0.149 -7.409 0.171 0.02491 7003 33 1 55 337 65 -0.876 0.217 -7.104 0.196 0.02388 7003 85 1 55 337 45 -0.771 0.200 -8.459 0.444 0.02844 7003 85 1 55 337 42 -0.761 0.234 -8.393 0.405 0.02822 7003 85 1 55 337 35 -0.696 0.236 -8.302 0.284 0.02791 7003 85 1 55 337 48 -0.849 0.200 -8.236 0.266 0.02769 7003 85 1 55 337 28 -0.841 0.153 -8.022 0.344 0.02697 7003 103 1 55 337 58 -0.588 0.156 -8.171 0.146 0.02747 7003 103 1 55 337 34 -0.676 0.186 -7.873 0.161 0.02647 7003 103 1 55 337 46 -0.594 0.238 -7.687 0.150 0.02584 7003 103 1 55 337 44 -0.580 0.225 -7.693 0.178 0.02587 7003 103 1 55 337 44 -0.739 0.147 -7.532 0.171 0.02532 7003 133 1 55 337 20 0.576 0.120 -8.560 0.212 0.02878 7003 133 1 55 337 16 0.673 0.109 -8.708 0.353 0.02928 7003 133 1 55 337 9 0.672 0.112 -8.398 0.229 0.02824 7003 133 1 55 337 18 0.570 0.142 -8.164 0.259 0.02745 7003 133 1 55 337 22 0.552 0.129 -8.091 0.195 0.02720 7006 61 1 40 303 24 -1.230 0.451 -7.399 0.301 0.02488 7006 61 1 40 303 24 -1.268 0.495 -7.160 0.288 0.02407 7006 61 1 40 303 28 -1.406 0.485 -6.796 0.328 0.02285 7006 61 1 40 303 16 -1.289 0.511 -6.836 0.252 0.02298 7006 61 1 40 303 21 -1.011 0.406 -6.775 0.348 0.02278 7006 169 1 40 303 12 -0.340 0.185 -7.539 0.180 0.02535 7006 169 1 40 303 21 -0.615 0.390 -7.338 0.359 0.02467 7006 169 1 40 303 17 -0.599 0.332 -7.150 0.275 0.02404 7006 169 1 40 303 16 -0.802 0.410 -6.874 0.259 0.02311 7006 169 1 40 303 14 -0.774 0.271 -6.672 0.161 0.02243 7006 187 1 40 303 14 -1.029 0.366 -7.884 0.496 0.02651 7006 187 1 40 303 15 -0.830 0.367 -7.457 0.244 0.02507 7006 187 1 40 303 23 -0.703 0.371 -7.030 0.349 0.02364 7006 187 1 40 303 15 -0.737 0.380 -7.443 0.234 0.02502 7006 187 1 40 303 14 -1.095 0.406 -7.335 0.457 0.02466 7006 222 1 40 303 13 -0.210 0.241 -8.014 0.392 0.02694 7006 222 1 40 303 16 -0.215 0.253 -7.684 0.218 0.02584 7006 222 1 40 303 12 -0.270 0.216 -7.495 0.227 0.02520 7006 222 1 40 303 15 -0.326 0.243 -7.449 0.333 0.02505 7006 222 1 40 303 12 -0.205 0.214 -7.218 0.252 0.02427 7006 238 1 40 303 10 -0.283 0.304 -7.139 0.765 0.02400 7006 238 1 40 303 11 -0.017 0.234 -7.295 0.654 0.02453 7006 238 1 40 303 8 -0.008 0.213 -6.977 0.377 0.02346 7006 238 1 40 303 7 -0.234 0.125 -6.638 0.444 0.02232 7006 238 1 40 303 10 -0.196 0.193 -6.880 0.476 0.02313 7006 267 1 40 303 10 -0.415 0.206 -6.946 0.314 0.02335 7006 267 1 40 303 15 -0.476 0.310 -6.726 0.246 0.02261 7006 267 1 40 303 12 -0.384 0.303 -6.483 0.212 0.02180 7006 267 1 40 303 12 -0.547 0.281 -6.362 0.285 0.02139 7006 267 1 40 303 12 -0.871 0.200 -6.481 0.546 0.02179 ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): y QA Procedures Done (y/n): n UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 46439, plate -9999 ------- 23:05 46439 0.0 bias ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 22:41Z 63 47 22 203 (SSW) 653 -
