We reverted to the old (previous) pointing model. Imaged all of 1356 N from mu = 20 to mu = 52, including ramps under good seeing (~1.5") for this relatively low-altitude stripe. Imaged all of 1458 N from mu = 93 to mu = 128, including ramps and under adequate seeing (mostly at or < 2.0", see log) considering this stripe is also relatively low in altitude.. Obtained good signal on cartridge 3, plate 1788. Finished cartridge 4, plate 2855. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: ---------- All systems checked and working properly. There is plenty of disk space available. No adjustments made to spectro collimation. It seems to be set for ~0C. The manipulator arm interlocks logic is OFF. 23:13Z - Began ventilation. Doors and louvers opened, fans on. 23:35Z - After doing the telescope checkout and checking fiducials, we took mirror numbers and noticed that the primary mirror numbers were significantly different from the nominal values (see mirror numbers section). We checked previous logs and found that the nightly primary mirror numbers began deviating from nominal values on Christmas, the day after optical collimation was tuned. We had time and decided to home and relax the primary and the mirror numbers afterward were the same as before. We called Steph and Dan Long and they confirmed our suspicions that the optical collimation affected the mirror numbers, and a new set of nominal values just haven't been updated yet. Night: ------ 00:15Z - Mounted imager. 00:34Z - goDrift -bias. Run 7260. On-telescope bias. This run was aborted because of id1 becoming unresponsive. 00:40Z - The watcher gave an error that id1 was unresponsive. We aborted the drift and tried rebooting the crates twice, but iccSoundOff still showed id1 as unresponsive and in addition, ad4 became unresponsive as well. We power-cycled the crates and then iccSoundOff showed everything to be available. 00:55Z - goDrift -bias. Run 7261. On-telescope bias. 01:15Z - Enclosure off. Force-filled spectrographs and imager and then swapped out the imager dewar for a full one. 1356 N, Run 7262 **************** 01:50Z - Started goDrift at mu = 16. Starting altitude was 37.5 degrees. 01:59Z - Focus good from frame 22, mu = 18.5. 02:05Z - Started ramp-up at mu = 20. 02:13Z - Started science at mu = 22. The seeing was around 2.6" for about the first half of this drift. Skippy was not happy and we thought perhaps this was a consequence of poor seeing, so we decided to keep going since the seeing was showing signs of improvement. As the seeing gradually got better (around 1.7"), skippy was still not happy and after 115 frames, we ended the drift. Even though the fiducial crossings were fine we decided to start at the beginning of the stripe to see if the pointing got bad during the drift as a result of skippy not working. 1356 N, Run 7263 **************** 02:52Z - Started goDrift at mu = 20. Focus good from the start. Skippy was still not happy at all during this run even though the seeing was stable at ~1.5". We called Steph and she suggested our skippy failures were due to an offset in declination in the new pointing model. We ended this drift at frame 26 and went back to the beginning of the stripe to try again with the old pointing model. 1356 N, Run 7264 **************** Steph reloaded the old pointing model and skippy was happy right off the bat. 03:19Z - Started goDrift at mu = 19.5. Focus good from the start. Starting altitude was about 36 degrees and the seeing was ~1.5". 03:22Z - Started ramp-up at mu = 20, frame 9. 03:30Z - Started science at mu = 22, frame 22. After clearing the error, it popped up again later once, but that was it. 05:21Z - End science at mu = 50, frame 209. 05:29Z - End ramp at mu = 52, frame 222. 1458 N, Run 7265 **************** 05:32Z - Started goDrift at mu = 92. From frame 100 onward, the seeing steadily decreased to around 1.6" at frame 175 and remained under 2.0" (averaging abuout 1.7") all the way until the end of the drift. 07:00Z - 2008 starts.
