However, we were able to get signal on the following plates through light cirrus clouds the first half of the night: Cart 9, plate 2865 Cart 1, plate 2866 - FINISHED Cart 7, plate 1246 - FINISHED Cart 3, plate 1879 - FINISHED No problems to report. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: ---------- All equipment are checked and work properly. Spectro collimation set for -6C. Ventilation is started at 23:15Z. Cart 9 is mounted. Night: ------ 00:20Z - Opened enclosure to clear skies. 00:55Z - goToField cartridge 9, seguefaint170 plate 2865. fk5 star used to find field. 01:29Z - Precals. 01:36Z - 25 min exposure. Seeing 1.5" 02:03Z - CCD55 vs+ watcher error. 02:05Z - 25 min exposure. 02:32Z - Postcals. We gained a S/N of 6.9 (r1), totaling 18.6 with previous exposures. This plate is not yet completed. 02:42Z - Mounted cart 1, seguefaint170 plate 2866. GSFOGTF. Cirrus clouds came in. 02:47Z - Precals. 02:54Z - 30 min exposure. Seeing 1.3" We gained 7.2 on this exposure, totaling 52.0 signal. This is enough to declare this plate DONE. 03:30Z - Mounted cart 7, orion61 plate 1246. 03:38Z - Precals. 03:46Z - Started first guided 15 min exposure. Seeing 1.2" 04:03Z - First unguided sky exposure, 15 min, +9" offset in A. 04:22Z - Second guided 15 min exposure. 04:41Z - Second unguided 15 min exposure, offset -9" in A. 05:02Z - Calibration exposure since SOS asked for them. 05:08Z - Third guided 15 min exposure. Seeing 1.0" 05:27Z - Third unguided 15 min exposure, +9" offset in A. 05:46Z - Fourth guided 15 min exposure. 06:04Z - Fourth unguided 15 min exposure with a -9" offset in A. We gained enough signal on this plate (18.5) to declare it DONE. 06:25Z - Mounted cart 3, chunk93 plate 1879. GSFOGTF. 06:35Z - Precals. 06:41Z - 15 min exposure. Seeing 1.0" 07:00Z - 20 min exposure. 07:24Z - 20 min exposure. We got 14.4 signal on this plate, enough to declare it DONE. 07:50Z - Mounted cart 8, seguefaint170 plate 2867. GSFOGTF. 07:54Z - Precals. 08:01Z - 30 min exposure. Seeing 1.0" Thicker clouds moved in. Even though our seeing was good, the efficiency was below 20% throughout the duration of the exposure. SOS returned a value for r1 of 1.3, but all of the other cameras returned acceptable values. We decided to not declare this exposure bad, just in case SOS was off with the reduction and some extra signal can be applied to this plate. We did not update the plate database with this exposure. 08:34Z - Began another 30 min exposure, but "endStare -aborted" it at 08:42Z due to thick, orographic clouds forming on top of us. There were no radar returns around, but just as a precaution, we closed the flat field screens and left the telescope tracking. 09:05Z - The next chunk plate became available and the clouds thinned out slightly. We felt ambitious, so we decided to switch plates and try getting signal on it. 09:07Z - Mounted cart 6, chunk153 plate 2603. GSFOGTF. 09:21Z - Precals. 09:28Z - 30 min exposure. The highest efficency we got was 11%. At 09:42Z we lost all but a few guide stars, and stayed at 7% efficiency. After that, we lost everything. We issued an "endStare" command at ~1400 seconds and let it read out in SOS. We got nothing (0.1s in all cameras). We left the telescope tracking but closed the flat field screen as before and waited for the clouds to break. 12:00Z - The clouds never broke and they look like they are going to be around for a while. We called it a night. 12:00Z - Closed enclosure.
