However, we were able to gather signal on the following plates in clear, photometric skies with relatively good seeing: Cart 9, plate 2865 Cart 7, plate 2887 --> FINISHED Cart 4, plate 2890 --> FINISHED Cart 8, plate 2858 Cart 5, plate 2647 --> FINISHED We could not remove the cover to the DIMM because it was frozen shut. We will try opening it tomorrow night instead. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: --------- All systems checked and working. Spectro focus set for ~-1C (note that a mechPiston move was made (see Problems) for each spectrograph even though last night's focus temp setting and cart were used with the mechanicals initially in the same position; a move had to be made to set the focus to the same temp as last night according to "collimate"). Imager bellows pressure ~76 psi (spec is 80 psi). 23:50Z - Started ventilating with doors and louvers open, fans on. Night: ----- Mounted cartridge 9, seguefaint170 plate 2865. 00:33Z - Opened enclosure to clear, photometric skies. Note: We could not open DIMM because it was frozen shut. So, in lieu of potentially breaking the lining of the cover, we decided to not mess with it tonight. We will try again tomorrow. 01:05Z - Used fk5 to find field since we were in early twilight. 01:23Z - Precals. 01:34Z - 25 min exposure. Seeing 1.2" 02:02Z - 25 min exposure. The altitude of the telescope dropped below 35 degrees after this exposure, so we could not continue exposing. 02:30Z - Postcals. We obtained a signal/noise of 6.1, but this plate is not yet finished. 02:40Z - Mounted cart 7, segue179 plate 2887. GSFOGTF. 02:48Z - Precals. 02:55Z - Began 20 min exposure. Seeing 1.3". Disabled fibers 3, 4, and 5 for guiding (their readings were off). 03:06Z - vs+ voltage watcher error for CCD55. 03:18Z - 15 min exposure. 03:36Z - 20 min exposure. 03:59Z - Postcals. We obtained S/N of 17.8 on this plate. It is declared DONE. 04:09Z - Mounted cart 4, segue179 plate 2890. GSFOGTF. 04:16Z - Precals. 04:23Z - 20 min exposure. Seeing 1.6-2.5". The b1 camera returned a value that was less than two in SOS, so we will try to obtain the S/N criteria for b2>30 instead. 04:45Z - 25 min exposure. Seeing 2.5-3.5" 05:09Z - Watcher error for voltage vt+ CCD15. 05:14Z - 25 min exposure. Seeing 2.0-1.6" 05:41Z - 25 min exposure. 06:10Z - Mid-cals (SOS was asking for them). 06:15Z - 25 min exposure. Seeing 1.6" 06:43Z - 25 min exposure. We gained 30.0 on this plate. Adding this to the extra 4.0 signal from previous moony nights, totals a S/N of 34.0. This plate is declared DONE. 07:15Z - Mounted cart 8, segue169 plate 2858. GSFOGTF 07:23Z - Precals. 07:29Z - 20 min exposure. Seeing 1.5". The b1 and r2 cameras returned values that were less than two in SOS. Again, we will try to obtain the S/N criteria for b2>30 instead. 07:52Z - 20 min exposure. 08:15Z - 25 min exposure. 08:43Z - 25 min exposure. 09:13Z - Mid-cals. 09:16Z - 25 min exposure. Seeing 1.6" 09:44Z - 15 min exposure. We gained 24.9 S/N on this plate, but it isnt enough to declare it done yet. One more long exposure should suffice. 10:05Z - Mounted cart 5, chunk153 plate 2647. GSFOGTF. 10:14Z - Precals. 10:21Z - 20 min exposure. Seeing 1.5" 10:44Z - 20 min exposure. 11:06Z - 20 min exposure. We gained over 15 S/N in all cameras, so we declared this plate DONE. 11:38Z - Mounted cart 3, chunk153 plate 2659. GSFOGTF. Humidity rose. The dewpoint difference remained rather steady around 3.0-3.1 degrees, so we decided to continue observing until it reached a value of 2.9 or lower. 11:45Z - Difference dropped to 2.8-2.9.
