We had to deal with clouds throughout the night, but we still managed to get some usable data. We tried observing cart. 7, 3076, and cart. 5, 3045, but the clouds prevented the data from being good. We were able to finish cart. 3, 3045, field B, and added signal to cart. 8, 3178. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: ---------- Because power supply failure last night, watcher complained about "exce micro (unacknowledged)" on SP2, an iack was issued to spectro cameras. Deleted mjd data from 54804-54809. All systems were checked and working properly. Speco focus was set for ~0.5 C. 23:40Z - Started ventilation. Night: ------ 00:15Z - Enclosure off. Topped off spectro dewars. 00:35Z - MARVELS cal. 00:37Z - Checked balance, did a test slew, gang connector connected to field B. Cart. 7, 3076, Oct08a_Marvels ***************************** Field B ------- 00:41Z - gotoField. Used fk5 to acquire the field. 01:03Z - MARVELS exposure. 50 min. 01:08Z - 12-deg. twilight. The clouds were growing thicker over us and we were barely able to guide. 02:00Z - Enclosure on, still ventilating. 03:05Z - The clouds thinned out somewhat, but we still had plenty of high clouds and scattered moonlight. Based on our experience of these conditions in the past, we'd probably only get red sky values even if (S/N)^2 values were > 2.0. We decided to keep a watchful eye and hope for a bit more clearing. 03:53Z - We had large enough clearing that we thought we might be able to get an exposure on cart. 5, so we mounted cart. 5 and opened. Cart. 5, 3186, Nov08c_SEGUE2 **************************** 04:04Z - gotoField. We had a gcam doread failure and the guiderMac showed a "Reply Stream error." We quit the guider control window and restarted and then gcam doread worked. It appears we just had a confused guiderMac. Used fk5 with cleared offsets to acquire the field. 04:23Z - preCalibs. 04:30Z - After the preCalibs., we had poor efficiency (8%), so we waited before starting the exposure to see what would happen. 04:37Z - Efficiency was up a little bit more, we decided to try. Science. 1500s. 05:05Z - Science. 1800s. Both exposures had red sky values and very low (S/N)^2. We declared them bad.
