APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Saturday September 5, 2009 (MJD 55080) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Dmitry Bizyaev Kaike Pan Craig Loomis (remotely) ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Guider test and pointing model. ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- Assist Craig on mapper test (cart 12 was left on the mapping station because more tests may be needed today). Test guider on a marvels plate (cartridge 1). See log for details. Got 72-point pointing model. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: ---------- 01:10Z start ventilation 01:30Z stop ventilation because of nearby lightning (19 km) and radar return, and threatening clouds. Afternoon checkout went smoothly, no problem to report. Night: ------ 03:00Z put cartridge 12 (plate 3530) on the mapping station, install laser heads, power the system on. Craig is remotely mapping the plate. 03:30Z restart ventilation although nearby radar returns. 05:40Z mount cart 1, enclosure off. 06:10Z load Cartridge 1, goto Field. Two guiding stars were found. Guider was not connected, then we setup guiderActor, and connect to the hub. When we turning guider on, the guider drives guider stars away from fiber centers. We also noticed that when a "tcc offset 0.0, 0.0001, 0.0" was issued, the guider image was moved in azithum direction not altitude direction (as we wish from the command). But this is consisent with what Russet McMillan told us: in TUI, instrument block and guider block have switched azithum and altitude axis. i.e. the Azithum of instrument block is the altitude of guider block, and reverse is true. 06:45Z mount engCam for the pointing model. Seeing is good at about 1.0". 07:30Z Craig finished his test on plate mapper. We power the mapper system off, uninstalled laser heads, put the diffuse back, cover slid heads and plate, but leave the cartridge on the mapper station in case more test are needed on the plate. 07:40Z finished all checks, start to collect data for a pointing model. 10:10Z checked and installed the new pointing model. We would like to test pointing of the new pointing model. But skippy doesn't work for the imaging, and only available plate (cart 11) does not have correct mapping information in the plate database. We cannot use imager nor plate for the checking. We slew the telescope for FK5 for a dozen (Az, Al) combinations , try to see if star imaging are in the centers of engCam chip. There are. But since the engCam has much bigger view, this may not tell us much on the pointing at all. 10:50Z mount cartridge 10 for possible BOSS test today. enclosure on. 11:00Z endNight rejoiced. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8023 00:37Z 01:26Z 100 O 63.71 75.92 95 ignore ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): QA Procedures Done (y/n): UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 00:52Z 56 37 15 73 (ENE) 1096 - cloudy 01:24Z 54 39 16 77 (ENE) 1138 - 01:56Z 53 39 19 73 (ENE) 1106 - 02:29Z 52 40 16 70 (ENE) 1178 - 03:01Z 53 40 14 73 (ENE) 1218 - 03:33Z 52 40 15 72 (ENE) 1214 - 04:05Z 51 40 15 69 (ENE) 1252 - 04:37Z 51 41 14 73 (ENE) 1355 - 05:09Z 51 41 14 70 (ENE) 1324 - cloudy 05:42Z 51 40 11 69 (ENE) 1312 - clear 06:14Z 51 41 6 44 (NE) 1423 - 06:46Z 50 42 5 69 (ENE) 1494 - 07:18Z 50 50 2 1 (N) 1222 - 07:50Z 50 40 8 72 (ENE) 1468 - 08:22Z 51 39 10 79 (E) 1220 - 08:55Z 52 37 13 77 (ENE) 1184 - 09:27Z 52 35 12 71 (ENE) 1114 - 09:59Z 51 34 11 80 (E) 1096 - 10:31Z 50 35 7 99 (E) 1068 - 11:03Z 51 34 6 131 (SE) 1126 - clear ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- 1:10Z - Began ventilation.
