APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Tuesday November 3, 2009 (MJD 55139) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Viktor Malanushenko Elena Malanushenko Steph Snedden (afternoon) ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- MARVELS Science! and Flexible Engineering ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- It was clear night with Full Moon. The engineering crew did not finish their work in cartridge bay yesterday and we used Nathan's limited plan of observations last night. We made 10 science exposures on the next plates: cart 5 plates 3519 A(broken 95/96), B(broken(35/36) cart 7 plates 3074 A, B(broken 1/2,13/14,63/64) two times cart 9 plates 3635 A, B(broken 9/10, 73/74, 83/84) cart 4 plate 3087 A, B(broken 49/50, 91/92) We successfully ran a new version of STUI 0.4a1 with guider GUI and test version of guiderActor v1_0_12. Guider GUI might be switched to plate view or to marvels guider view. Both are very useful but plate view was available for the first several plates only. It might be good to have fiber numbers on guider images in guider GUI as we use them a lot. We noted that "sop instChange" zeroed telescope offsets and we need to apply them again. If we do not see guider stars on got oField, so the first guess might be to apply dec offset 0.002 ("tcc offset arc 0.00, 0.002,0"). I think we need to keep offsets when we move telescope and need independent command to clear the offsets. Several more warn messages continue to appear in STUI. The list is in problem section. Spectro dewar needs to be changes after morning fill. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: ---------- The engineering crew worked on the scissor lift and cartridge racks in the cartridge bay today. The work is not yet done, but we have one column of three cartridges available in the bay and one on the telescope. That should get us through the night using Nathan's alternate plan. Doghouse imager bias looked normal. We found start on GTF. We had a problem to start a guider. DS9, guider STUI and SM windows did not updated and kept imager of some previous exposures. As usually, we restarted guiderActor and guider monitor exactly as Robert suggested us do not do, but it did not help at this time. I called for help using STUI message center. Russell found that we were running in simulation mode. He changed the mode to operation and the guiderActor started to work.
