Clouds and moon prevented taking of further data. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- We declared astroDa v14_40 and astroline v10_10 to be current in UPS. Thickening cloud at sunset kept us closed until 04:00 UT when we opened initially to run imaging tests for JEG, but by the time we had opened, the sky was clearing rapidly so we switched to spectroscopy. On opening, we noted that the east door still runs hard into the top stop, putting stress on the lower panels of the door. On dismounting the imager (using the lift in manual mode) the lift seemed to creep up very slowly when the hand paddle thumbwheel was released. This happened at about 8 inches lift height, but did not repeat after we lowered further. Around 07:00 UT, Pete's X terminal (monx1) window manager (fvwm2) failed, requiring a log out and log-in to recover. No science time lost. This was probably due to having an excessive number of windows open (>~30). We gave up to bright moon on thick cloud about 11:30 UT. Observing sequence: UT 04:35 Plate 412, cartridge 9. Done in 4 exposures (plus 1 exposure abandoned once we knew we had enough S/N). Stars found on first gotoField. Highly variable cloud. 06:53 Plate 758, cartridge 1. Stars found on gotofield, but the autoguider failed because guide star 3 was no within the image (see PR1578, updated, and the traceback in Problems section #1 below).
