APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Sunday May 12, 2002 (MJD 52407) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Swing: Dan Long Night: Jurek Krzesinski, Pete Newman Visitor: Judy Provencal (U.Delaware) ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science with the standard priorities. ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- Two plates finished before easterly weather closed us for the night. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Pre-flight checks showed no problems. Photometric sky before sunset, but clouds about ~3 hours away and wind from the NE, so we did not meet the criteria for starting with the imager and started with spectroscopy. This proved a good decision, as seeing varied from 2.3 to 3.5 arcsec. We had several instances of PR3402 (wrong exposure time recorded). See spectroscopy data summary section for corrections. Observing sequence: 02:25Z Plate 946, cartridge 5. Done in 2 exposures added to (S/N)^2 >= 6.0 from MJDs 52400 and 52405. 04:05Z Plate 846, cartridge 6. Done in 3 exposures. 05:49Z Plate 955, cartridge 2. One good exposure then seeing >4 arcsec reduced efficiency too much to observe. 06:40Z Closed by high winds. 09:00Z Humidity (what a treat!) also over limit, and cloud thicker. 09:40Z No prospect of re-opening tonight, so we stop. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot --------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 15022, plate 946 ------- 13.3 10.1 10.2 8.4 DONE Add MJDs 52400 and 52405: 11.0 6.0 10.5 6.1 --------------------- 24.3 16.1 20.7 14.5 03:00 15022 10.0 flat 03:02 15023 2.0 arc 03:30 15024 1200.0 target 03:53 15025 22066.0 target Was really 1200 sec 04:00 15026 240.0 smear ----- sequence 15027, plate 846 ------- 17.1 15.8 19.4 13.9 DONE 04:16 15027 10.0 flat 04:18 15028 2.0 arc 04:42 15029 1200.0 target 05:05 15030 23536.0 target Was really 1200 sec 05:38 15031 1801.0 target 05:44 15032 240.0 smear ----- sequence 15033, plate 955 ------- 4.2 3.2 4.5 3.8 Not done 05:58 15033 10.0 flat 06:00 15034 2.0 arc 06:23 15035 1201.0 target ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 02:49Z 5 946 197.70 -0.0001 64.80 0.0017 27.37 -0.0228 1.000170 04:44Z 6 846 --- not recorded --- 06:07Z 2 955 207.83 -0.0005 55.58 -0.0006 51.96 0.0049 1.000110 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: JL5337 Stays: JL5338 ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 02:50Z 5 946 1.00017 -1678 -498 -250 198 64.8 10.7 18 70 BG38 2.3 04:44Z 6 846 1.00014 -1381 -96 -100 -13 61.6 9.1 20 81 BG38 2.3 06:06Z 2 955 1.00011 -1085 145 -120 208 55.7 9.0 25 81 BG38 2.6 ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 22:57Z 57 -6 17 323 (NW) 826 - Clear 23:29Z 56 -8 15 338 (NNW) 764 - " 00:01Z 57 -1 7 304 (NW) 734 - " 01:54Z 53 0 10 17 (NNE) 612 - " 02:26Z 52 0 14 53 (NE) 513 - " 02:59Z 51 25 16 68 (ENE) 1159 - " 03:31Z 49 26 21 80 (E) 1279 - " 04:01Z 48 25 21 74 (ENE) 1332 - Variable cloud 04:31Z 48 24 23 72 (ENE) 1349 - " 05:03Z 49 24 17 78 (ENE) 1310 - " 05:35Z 48 23 19 82 (E) 1315 - " 06:06Z 48 20 25 80 (E) 1308 - " 06:36Z 41 24 36 73 (ENE) 1193 - " 07:09Z 39 26 27 66 (ENE) 1008 - " 07:41Z 38 27 16 57 (ENE) 976 - " 08:13Z 37 27 32 70 (ENE) 779 - " 08:45Z 36 28 27 75 (ENE) 718 - " 09:18Z 34 29 28 77 (ENE) 689 - Thicker cloud 09:50Z 33 29 28 73 (ENE) 635 - " ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- 01:30Z Fans on, doors open 01:55Z Enclosure off 06:40Z Enclosure on, fans off - high wind then humidity.
