APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Friday November 29, 2002 (MJD 52608) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Swing: Mike Harvanek Night: Pete Newman, Steph Snedden ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science. ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- One fruitless attempt to catch photons sandwiched between clouds and high humidity. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- The same weather system that prevented observations last night continued through sunset tonight, ...and continued ...and continued until 05:36Z, at which time we opened under partly to moderately cloudy skies for spectroscopy with cartridge 7, plate 1080. We needed an FK5 star to find the field. We did another gflat, since there was a large offset between the fiber positions from the last gflat. In that short period of time, we lost the guide stars again, and had to go back to the FK5. We recentered and then went back to the field. The spectro efficiency was pretty low, from 15 - 20%, so we went for a long (30 min) exposure, and crossed our fingers. So much for superstition. Crossing fingers doesn't work. The clouds thickened during the exposure, and we didn't get useable S/N. So we waited some more. Pete began archiving guider flat images tonight on 'commish in ~observer/guider_flats//. The idea is to get guider images from at least two separate mountings of each cartridge, and archive them so we can see what junk on the fibers is permanent and, how much the patterns of junk change from one mounting of the cartridge to the next. Tonight, data from cartridge 8 was archived. 10:14Z The clouds are thinning out, but the dewpoint drops to closure conditions. We close. 11:11Z Dewpoint depression starts to rise, but since the railings are still wet, we stay closed. 12:12Z We sadly give up for the night. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3501 21:05Z 21:21Z 100 O 94.17 98.16 41 ignore ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 17200, plate -9999 ------- 20:57 17200 0.0 bias ----- sequence 17201, plate 1143 ------- 21:12 17201 10.0 flat 21:17 17202 2.0 arc 21:25 17203 0.0 bias ----- sequence 17204, plate 1080 ------- 06:03 17204 10.0 flat 06:06 17205 2.0 arc 06:39 17206 1800.1 target 07:05 17207 10.0 flat 07:08 17208 2.0 arc 07:17 17209 10.0 flat 07:19 17210 2.0 arc ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 06:01Z 8 1080 -50.81 0.0027 44.51 0.0039 139.25 -0.0178 0.999970 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: JL Stays: JL ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 06:01Z 8 1080 0.99997 296 1309 -135 -51 44.5 4.1 11 19 - 2.5 ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 20:30Z 42 27 13 334 (NNW) 19 - mcl 21:02Z 41 26 2 27 (NNE) 36 - mcl 23:27Z 39 28 7 7 (N) 46 - mcl 00:04Z 39 28 12 14 (NNE) 42 - mcl 00:36Z 39 27 10 13 (NNE) 51 - mcl 01:20Z 39 26 10 2 (N) 47 - mcl 02:01Z 40 28 12 10 (N) 68 - mcl 02:37Z 40 28 7 12 (NNE) 84 - mcl 03:09Z 40 30 8 357 (NNW) 69 - mcl 03:41Z 39 30 14 1 (N) 50 - mcl 04:13Z 39 30 0 193 (SSW) 58 - mcl 04:49Z 39 30 1 196 (SSW) 60 - mcl 05:22Z 40 25 2 5 (N) 83 - pcl 05:54Z 38 30 8 46 (NE) 77 - mcl 06:27Z 40 24 12 18 (NNE) 85 - mcl 06:59Z 38 28 0 134 (SE) 60 - mcl 07:31Z 40 28 7 3 (N) 62 - mcl 08:04Z 40 24 4 12 (NNE) 83 - mcl 08:36Z 42 22 1 72 (ENE) 81 - mcl 09:09Z 40 23 0 232 (SW) 41 - mcl 09:40Z 38 29 0 253 (WSW) 83 - mcl 10:12Z 37 30 1 274 (W) 48 - pcl 10:45Z 37 31 4 266 (W) 54 - pcl 11:18Z 37 31 7 267 (W) 67 - pcl 11:49Z 38 29 6 266 (W) 40 - pcl ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- 23:00Z Fans on, doors open Status at 12:45Z: Telescope stowed at: 30 deg Instrument mounted: Cartridge 4 Counterweights at: 290 Autofill systems: On 180L LN2 dewar weights: Spectro 221 lb Imager 120 lb 05:35Z Opened enclosure 10:15Z Closed due to humidity.
