APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Saturday December 7, 2002 (MJD 52616) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Tireless Mike "I'll fix it" Harvanek (day) Tired Atsuko "Mike, can you fix it?" Nitta Almost as tired Scot "So, Craig,..." Kleinman Visiting Brave Craig "Not another computer problem!" Loomis ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- It was not cloudy, or humid for about an hour. We got one plate (merged) done. That's all. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Clouds at sunset- we started with spectroscopy: cart 7 plate 1143 (rockosi) After filling the spectroscopic dewars, we found we could not move the rotator (somethign weird happend while opening, too - the rotator moved when I thought I have given a TCC tack command without telling the rotator to move; the az moved also, which I thought I hadn't told it to do, so I treated it as operator error - maybe, maybe not - the rotator halted then and could only be moved again by clearing the slip detecion circuit and resetting the amp.) This time, we had to do that multiple times before the rotator moved again. Although things worked eventually, we don't know why they didn't work right away nor exactly what we did to recover things. (We got the MCP to control the rotator again, but then the TCC wouldn't - a new set inst cured this.) We recorded this as a telescope hardware problem, although there is no indication that it was hardware and not software. There may have been GSOTGTF, but who would know with these clouds? We went to an fk5 and got things centered - it was ~12" off in RA and 9" in dec (so there probably were no GSOTGTF). The clouds just continued to thicken, so we put the enclosure back on around 03:30Z. We re-opened around 04:45 and started again with cart 2 plate 1067 (merged).GSOTGTF. Good seeing and occasional clouds meant this plate was over done in 40 minutes. Next cart 1, plate 809 (photoz). Except, clouds and humidity forced us to close again before we got any exposures on it. We never re-opened. endNight rejoiced. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 17318, plate -9999 ------- 22:20 17318 0.0 bias ----- sequence 17321, plate 1143 ------- 02:10 17321 10.0 flat 02:12 17322 2.0 arc ----- sequence 17323, plate 1067 ------- 05:04 17323 10.0 flat 05:07 17324 2.0 arc 05:28 17325 900.1 target 05:46 17326 900.1 target 05:59 17327 600.1 target 06:07 17328 240.0 smear 06:10 17329 10.0 flat 06:12 17330 2.0 arc ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: JL Stays: JL ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 05:12Z 2 1067 0.99981 1875 2663 -50 -6 57.0 0.1 16 270 gdr 1.2 ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 21:15Z 38 16 6 281 (W) 27 - 21:48Z 36 10 3 283 (WNW) 26 - 22:20Z 36 14 5 267 (W) 43 - 00:53Z 35 -6 11 262 (W) 9 - 01:25Z 35 -1 11 244 (WSW) 20 - 01:57Z 34 2 9 227 (SW) 16 - 02:29Z 31 24 6 201 (SSW) 84 - 03:01Z 31 20 10 215 (SW) 54 - 03:34Z 31 17 11 254 (WSW) 30 - 04:06Z 32 21 10 262 (W) 75 - 04:38Z 31 22 14 272 (W) 60 - 05:10Z 31 24 15 267 (W) 89 - 05:41Z 32 24 16 273 (W) 96 - 06:11Z 32 27 8 253 (WSW) 78 - 06:41Z 32 24 13 280 (W) 75 - 07:11Z 31 27 10 271 (W) 97 - 07:42Z 31 27 9 271 (W) 114 - 08:12Z 32 27 9 270 (W) 91 - 08:42Z 32 25 9 266 (W) 105 - 09:12Z 32 26 11 244 (WSW) 111 - 09:43Z 32 26 14 217 (SW) 86 - 10:13Z 32 27 16 221 (SW) 89 - 10:43Z 31 27 14 207 (SSW) 100 - 11:13Z 31 25 16 210 (SSW) 86 - ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- fans doors: ~23:00Z enclosure off: ~00:00Z enclosure back on (door open, fans on): ~03:30Z closed agin (this time wioth fans off/doors closed): ~06:15Z no interlocks bypassed cart 7 mounted ---=== SOFTWARE USED ===--- IOP/SOP: v3_98_0 Watcher: v2_20_0 MCP: v5_16_0 TPM: tpm_v2_18_0 AstroDa: v14_47 TCC: 2.6.8 sdssProcedures: v1_56 SoS: v4_9_13 hoggPT: v1_5_8 plate-mapper: v4_1_0 ---=== MIRROR NUMBERS ===--- PRIMARY: -------- Scale: 1.000000 MIGS TONIGHT NOMINAL Axial A 0.0840 0.0790 Axial B 0.7930 0.7970 Axial C 0.8180 0.8240 Trans D -9.0810 -9.1130 Lateral E 1.8710 1.8870 Lateral F 1.4250 1.4300 GALILS Commanded: 5400. -3700. 900. -200. 31550. 30650.
