APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Saturday December 28, 2002 (MJD 52637) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- swing Stephanie Snedden Howard Brewington (swing/night assinstant) night Dan Long night Jurek Krzesinski support stuff Dexter The Truck. Visitor Kia Wendel (by phone) French (on the spot) ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- Trimonti palte (1179) DONE! and two others (1128, 900). Useful signal on 1003. Some problems with the manipulator tonight - Wendel and French helped to fix it. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Swing shift: Checkout went without problems. Note that there is a cover missing on the outside manipulator arm. French has been at work (& thinks he fixed vertical oscillation problem). The arm can be safely used without the cover. Since it was a warm day, we ran goSpecFocus and collimate to look for any temperature effects on the spectro focus (Don't want you to die of curiosity, Dan). It turns out that we were in spec even at the warmer temperature. Nonetheless the predicted red piston movement is in the positive direction. Combined twith previous observations, plate done with 2 additional exposures. 02:17Z cart 1 plt 1179 (Trimonti plate). Stars on slew. We set for pointing #5 done three 20 min. exposures. #6 done three 20 min. exposures and the PLATE IS DONE :))) The cart manipulator refused to work. After calling for help we found Wendel, who gived us some hints what it might be, and we found that one of the relays inside the support bulding (west wall at the cart door) was hot, so when we pressed it manipulator all controll LEDs went on, then we noticed that manipulator inside was also on. We switched it off and get the manipulator outside working. We don't know if these two manipulators are separate systems or not, but now everything works fine. It took us 30 minutes to find and fix the problem, but no observing time was lost. 05:15Z Again problem with manipulator, this time French helped us and we can operate. No science time lost. 05:20Z cart 2 plt 1156 mounted. Fk5 used to find stars. Done with 3 exposures. 06:35Z cart 9 plt 900 mounted. Stars on slew. 06:50Z Clouds -the efficiency dropped drastically. Finaly we got that plate done, but the last 25 min. exposure was paused a lot beacuse of the clouds, and was done (including pauses) in 40 min. We declared it done (SoS didn't complained and there are 3 other 25 minute good exposures which might help reject CR). 10:34Z cart 5 plt 1003 mounted. We didn't see stars, but found them via fk5. 12:10Z Clouds too dense- we gave up after 4-th exposure. Plate not done. 12:14Z endNight done. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3551 22:21Z 22:39Z 100 O 141.82 146.31 42 ignore ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 17609, plate -9999 ------- 22:16 17609 0.0 bias ----- sequence 17610, plate 1128 ------- 22:44 17610 10.0 flat 22:46 17611 2.0 arc 22:54 17612 2.1 arc 22:56 17613 2.1 arc ----- sequence 17615, plate -9999 ------- 00:32 17615 0.0 bias ----- sequence 17616, plate 1128 ------- 01:07 17616 10.0 flat 01:09 17617 2.0 arc 01:30 17618 900.1 target 01:53 17619 1200.1 target 02:02 17620 240.0 smear 02:05 17621 10.0 flat 02:07 17622 2.0 arc ----- sequence 17623, plate 1179 ------- 02:32 17623 10.0 flat 02:34 17624 2.0 arc 03:03 17625 1200.1 target 03:26 17626 1200.1 target 03:49 17627 1200.1 target 04:19 17628 1200.1 target 04:42 17629 1200.1 target 05:05 17630 1200.1 target 05:08 17631 10.0 flat 05:11 17632 2.0 arc ----- sequence 17633, plate 1156 ------- 05:28 17633 10.0 flat 05:31 17634 2.0 arc 05:54 17635 1200.1 target 06:22 17636 1500.1 target 06:30 17637 240.0 smear 06:33 17638 10.0 flat 06:35 17639 2.0 arc ----- sequence 17640, plate 900 ------- 06:57 17640 10.0 flat 06:59 17641 2.0 arc 07:38 17642 1500.1 target 08:06 17643 1500.1 target 08:34 17644 1500.1 target 09:09 17645 1500.1 target 09:57 17646 1500.1 target 10:01 17647 10.0 flat 10:04 17648 2.0 arc 10:17 17649 240.0 smear 10:25 17650 240.0 smear ----- sequence 17651, plate 1003 ------- 10:44 17651 10.0 flat 10:46 17652 2.0 arc 11:13 17653 1200.1 target 11:40 17654 1200.1 target 12:11 17655 1500.1 target ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 01:12Z 4 1128 5.87 0.0046 57.04 0.0021 184.86 -0.0052 0.999910 03:01Z 1 1179 19.24 0.0033 55.69 0.0020 196.03 0.0147 1.000160 05:40Z 2 1156 -38.64 0.0018 50.55 0.0025 148.27 -0.0058 0.999850 10:53Z 5 1003 23.49 0.0029 62.47 0.0026 199.66 -0.0104 1.000140 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: JL5841 Stays: JL5842 ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 01:12Z 4 1128 0.99991 888 1821 -75 6 57.0 3.1 7 198 gdr 2.0 03:02Z 1 1179 1.00016 -1579 -279 -135 19 55.7 2.1 11 210 gdr 1.8 05:41Z 2 1156 0.99985 1480 2335 -70 -39 50.5 1.3 16 228 gdr 1.6 10:53Z 5 1003 1.00014 -1381 -208 -210 23 62.5 2.7 14 268 gdr 1.5 ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 22:03Z 44 1 12 181 (S) 55 - 22:35Z 43 1 15 180 (S) 55 - 23:07Z 40 3 19 202 (SSW) 72 - 23:40Z 40 0 14 209 (SSW) 81 - 00:40Z 37 -3 7 187 (S) 136 - 01:11Z 37 -1 4 192 (SSW) 169 - 01:43Z 36 -1 8 182 (S) 180 - 02:14Z 39 -1 14 251 (WSW) 69 - 02:45Z 36 -1 12 208 (SSW) 94 - 03:16Z 39 -2 15 238 (WSW) 73 - 03:49Z 38 -2 10 241 (WSW) 114 - 04:20Z 37 -2 10 225 (SW) 70 - 04:50Z 36 1 11 231 (SW) 147 - 05:21Z 33 10 12 224 (SW) 175 - 05:52Z 34 8 11 237 (WSW) 173 - 06:22Z 36 5 17 247 (WSW) 133 - 06:53Z 35 7 18 243 (WSW) 129 - 07:23Z 36 6 15 240 (WSW) 126 - 07:55Z 37 6 18 242 (WSW) 89 - 08:27Z 37 4 17 246 (WSW) 86 - 08:59Z 37 4 15 232 (SW) 89 - 09:31Z 37 3 12 254 (WSW) 77 - 10:04Z 36 4 16 256 (WSW) 85 - 10:36Z 36 4 14 262 (W) 90 - 11:07Z 37 2 11 265 (W) 79 - 11:37Z 37 2 9 268 (W) 101 - 12:08Z 37 2 11 262 (W) 95 - 12:41Z 37 0 15 272 (W) 104 - ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- 00:15Z Telescope opened, dewars refilled. 12:20Z Telescope closed, hoses hooked up. ---=== SOFTWARE USED ===--- IOP/SOP: v3_98_0 Watcher: v2_20_0 MCP: v5_17_0 TPM: tpm_v2_19_0 AstroDa: v14_47 TCC: 2.6.8 sdssProcedures: v1_60 SoS: v4_9_13 hoggPT: v1_5_8 plate-mapper: v4_2_0 ---=== MIRROR NUMBERS ===--- PRIMARY: -------- Scale: 1.000000 MIGS TONIGHT NOMINAL Axial A 0.0830 0.0790 Axial B 0.7970 0.7970 Axial C 0.8160 0.8240 Trans D -9.0820 -9.1130 Lateral E 1.8420 1.8870 Lateral F 1.4140 1.4300 GALILS Commanded: 5400. -3700. 900. -200. 31550. 30650.
