APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Thursday May 22, 2003 (MJD 52782) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Swing: Daniel Long Night: Howard Brewington Jurek Krzesinski ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- We had clouds for most of the night, which slowed our progress. Yet, we were able to declare Cart 08, Plate 1333 and Cart 04, 1174 done. No problems tonight. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: ========== The concrete apron between the cartridge bay and the telescope is being repainted. The right half was painted today and the left half will be painted tomorrow. Please try to keep the cartridge cart on the left side of the apron tonight. The paint will be cured by tomorrow night (when you will want to stay on the right half). The primary was just past the allowed range for the E MiG, so I relaxed the primary. That returned it to the nominal value. This afternoon the spectrographs were not refocused. Below are the mean offset values from collimate. Before After b1: .01 - b2: .16 - r1: -.06 - r2: -.16 - Final Piston Position sp1 sp2 motor A -4500 -4500 motor B -4500 -4500 motor C -4500 -4500 Night: -------------- Because of clouds, we started with spectroscopy. 02:40Z Cart 05, Plt 1313, guide stars on slew, but waiting for darker sky. 03:31Z A 20 minute exposure was done as clouds increased; a S/N^2 of only 1.5 was captured. Because of this low efficiency and lightning in the direction of El Paso, we closed. Landru is beeping tonight but, unfortunately, very softly. Craig knows about this problem. 08:01Z Cart 08, Plt 1333, guide stars on slew, but thin clouds allow only about 30% efficiency for first exposure. We started with a thirty minute exposure. Done in three exposures. 10:10Z Cart 04, Plt 1174, guide stars found with Fk5. The S/N^2 from one exposure was added to last night's exposures and plate was declared done. endNight finished and was happy. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3949 22:36Z 22:51Z 100 O -71.47 -67.88 37 ignore ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): y QA Procedures Done (y/n): y spectro bias and flat check r2-L: 544 r2-R: 1489 hot col 1475.5 two fibers cut off at upper right ( low row, high col ) r1-L: 1155 r1-R: 1210 hot col 1152.5- 1153.5 hot col 1625.5 one fiber cut off at upper right b2-L: 1220 b2-R: 1200 no fibers run off chip b1-L: 1262 b1-R: 1017 high col 154.5 no fibers run off chip UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 22:55 21050 2.1 arc 22:58 21051 2.1 arc 23:10 21052 0.0 bias ----- sequence 21054, plate 1313 ------- 03:04 21054 10.0 flat 03:07 21055 2.0 arc 03:31 21056 1200.1 target ----- sequence 21057, plate 1333 ------- 08:14 21057 10.0 flat 08:16 21058 2.0 arc 08:59 21059 1800.1 target 09:23 21060 1200.1 target 09:51 21061 1500.1 target 09:59 21062 240.0 smear 10:02 21063 10.0 flat 10:05 21064 2.0 arc ----- sequence 21065, plate 1174 ------- 10:18 21065 10.0 flat 10:21 21066 2.0 arc 10:45 21067 1200.1 target 10:52 21068 240.0 smear ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 03:27Z 5 1313 189.43 0.0038 64.96 0.0040 14.73 -0.0209 1.000200 09:26Z 8 1333 237.18 0.0082 56.71 0.0038 83.13 -0.0142 1.000160 10:31Z 4 1174 252.75 0.0036 55.17 0.0024 97.32 -0.0042 1.000230 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: JL6422 Stays: JL6423 ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 03:27Z 5 1313 1.00020 -1974 -744 -250 189 65.0 15.4 10 169 gdr 2.0 09:26Z 8 1333 1.00016 -1579 -397 -250 237 56.8 13.3 1 119 gdr 2.2 10:28Z 4 1174 1.00023 -2270 -917 -200 253 55.7 14.2 9 183 gdr 2.2 ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 22:48Z 68 20 8 235 (SW) 1508 - Cirrus 23:20Z 73 23 6 248 (WSW) 1282 - Cirrus 23:52Z 66 20 9 235 (SW) 1546 - Cirrus 00:24Z 67 21 14 206 (SSW) 1600 - Cirrus 00:57Z 65 21 15 204 (SSW) 1517 - Thick Cirrus 01:33Z 62 19 8 182 (S) 1882 - Thick Cirrus 02:05Z 61 20 10 179 (S) 1838 - Thick Cirrus 02:38Z 60 20 12 176 (S) 1913 - Thick Cirrus 03:10Z 59 21 12 173 (S) 1980 - Thick Cirrus 03:40Z 58 21 9 134 (SE) 1906 - Thick Cirrus 04:11Z 57 27 10 154 (SSE) 1928 - Thick Cirrus 04:41Z 57 25 10 147 (SSE) 1801 - Thick Cirrus 05:11Z 56 18 4 124 (SE) 1603 - Thick Cirrus 05:41Z 57 20 2 150 (SSE) 1585 - Thick Cirrus 06:11Z 57 18 9 147 (SSE) 1658 - Thick Cirrus 06:42Z 57 17 7 130 (SE) 1597 - Thick Cirrus 07:12Z 58 20 5 170 (S) 1774 - Thick Cirrus 07:42Z 59 25 8 186 (S) 1821 - Thin Cirrus 08:12Z 59 27 7 203 (SSW) 1930 - Thin Cirrus 08:44Z 58 26 2 161 (SSE) 1916 - Thin Cirrus 09:17Z 58 25 9 181 (S) 1836 - Thin Cirrus 09:48Z 57 23 2 140 (SE) 1902 - Thin Cirrus 10:21Z 56 23 7 135 (SE) 1906 - Thin Cirrus 10:53Z 57 25 6 175 (S) 1933 - Thin Cirrus ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- 01:10Z Enclosure doors opened, fans and blowers on, louvers opened. 02:15Z Enclosure off. 11:00Z Enclosure on, doors closed, fans and blowers off, louvers closed.
