APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Monday August 29, 2005 (MJD 53612) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Night: Howard Brewington Dan Long Kaike Pan Support: Eric Neilsen ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- We got science data tonight!! After a small humidity delay, we opened and finished three SEGUE faint plates and got an exposure on a SEGUE bright. Unfortunately still no TCC info in imager headers, so no imaging. Attempted generating rotator fiducial table but didn't get expected results. Detailed email sent to Robert requesting help. So we ran tonight with the old table. Pointing was okay and the rotator offset was easy enough to add in during acquisition. Dust Counter on met. tower seems stuck at 227. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- 01:30Z Humidity too high to ventilate yet. Drift did not start (waited too long for daqbusy) Did readoutAbort - still no go Rebooted crates: lock operation failed ad2,ad3, ad4 Rebooted photo and astro crates Same deal. lock operation failed ad3, ad4 Tried a second drift with no reboot New error: insufficient space in pool (Is this real?) Did initNight -poolInit Now an iop issuing a goDrift will hang beyond any ctrl-C-ing and then not let the imager port go. ftelnetLogoutPort im logs out port 8 rather than 18 logged out port 18 by hand. Imager server stopped complaining about not being able to telnet - until next goDrift attempt. Logging out all iops and trying again worked. Not sure what initiated this downward spiral, but exiting all iops worked (no rebooting crates needed). All of this imager fiddling was to check if the TCC info was making it into the headers after Fritz's latest try getting the crates to eavesdrop on the udp gossip. Unfortunately NaNs the word still. Note that we did the switch to imaging code when rebooting the crates. The spectrographs were not rebooted, so they still have the spectro version of the code, but only until they are rebooted. 02:45Z Doors Open, Fans On (humidity dropping below limit) loadCartridge complains file doesn't exist: ------------------------------------------- If you get trouble loading cartridge where it complains some file or directory doesn't exist (and you're pretty sure it does), log into sdsshost2, cd to the offending directory and do an ls. loadCartridge should then get past that step (note there are at least three different places it can complain /data/spectro/guider, /home/neilsen/iop/params, and /data/spectro/plugMapM. 03:15Z Opening 03:45Z Cartridge 4 2257 seguefaint122 90.7 52.3 85.0 63.2 2.9 2.3 2.4 2.1 53611 Needed FK5 (star at edge of fiber) -------------------- 93.6 54.6 87.4 65.3 Done 03:58Z First Science Done in six exposures 06:51Z instChange 06:57Z Cartridge 8 2261 seguefaint122 73.4 53.8 90.1 53.9 Done Needed FK5 08:40Z Cartridge 9 1915 seguefaint98 50.8 55.3 52.8 55.8 Done Needed FK5 - found faint star in fiber 10, not the FK5 Cleared offsets. The imager and spectro frames were from the daytime testing so were probably gone for good reason. The PT frame which was called missing however was the last frame of the night. 267047 was indeed not in /data/mt/53612. However 267046's header showed it was taken with the z filter, so there appears to be a numbering discrepancy. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5545 02:35Z 02:43Z 100 O 86.50 88.46 27 ignore ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n):y QA Procedures Done (y/n):y UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 33626, plate 2257 ------- 90.7 52.3 85.0 63.2 03:52 33626 10.0 flat 2.9 2.3 2.4 2.1 53611 03:55 33627 2.0 arc -------------------- 04:25 33628 1500.1 target 93.6 54.6 87.4 65.3 Done 04:52 33629 1500.1 target 05:20 33630 1500.1 target 05:47 33631 1500.1 target 05:50 33632 10.0 flat 05:52 33633 2.0 arc 06:22 33634 1500.1 target 06:50 33635 1500.1 target ----- sequence 33636, plate 2261 ------- 73.4 53.8 90.1 53.9 Done 07:07 33636 10.0 flat 07:09 33637 2.0 arc 07:38 33638 1500.1 target 08:06 33639 1500.1 target 08:33 33640 1400.1 target ----- sequence 33641, plate 1915 ------- 50.8 55.3 52.8 55.8 Done 09:02 33641 10.0 flat 09:04 33642 2.0 arc 09:33 33643 1500.1 target 10:01 33644 1500.1 target 10:29 33645 1500.1 target 10:50 33646 1100.1 target ----- sequence 33647, plate 1914 ------- 4.8 7.8 9.6 11.8 11:02 33647 10.0 flat 11:05 33648 2.0 arc 11:24 33649 900.1 target ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 04:02Z 4 2257 35.54 -0.0026 67.36 0.0002 209.95 -0.1208 0.999920 07:13Z 8 2261 -0.81 -0.0081 80.29 0.0019 179.02 -0.0915 0.999920 09:18Z 9 1915 16.96 -0.0015 46.33 0.0015 194.19 -0.1235 1.000180 11:08Z 6 1914 -22.45 -0.0025 45.19 0.0010 160.79 -0.1403 1.000110 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: JL Stays: JL ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 04:02Z 4 2257 0.99992 790 1840 50 35 67.4 12.7 7 82 - 1.6 07:13Z 8 2261 0.99992 790 1717 -55 -1 80.3 14.2 2 318 - 1.0 09:18Z 9 1915 1.00018 -1778 -378 -100 17 46.3 11.6 5 267 - 1.0 11:08Z 6 1914 1.00011 -1086 198 -100 -22 45.2 12.3 6 271 - 1.4 ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 00:18Z 54 47 7 86 (E) 227 - Clear 03:09Z 54 41 7 88 (E) 227 - Clear 03:40Z 54 40 8 86 (E) 227 - Clear 04:10Z 55 40 9 55 (NE) 227 - Clear 04:41Z 56 34 8 32 (NNE) 227 - Clear 05:11Z 56 32 9 52 (NE) 227 - Clear 05:42Z 57 31 12 56 (NE) 227 - Clear 06:14Z 56 30 1 324 (NW) 227 - Clear 06:46Z 57 30 3 349 (NNW) 227 - Clear 07:16Z 57 34 3 329 (NNW) 227 - Clear 07:48Z 56 35 2 297 (WNW) 227 - Clear 08:18Z 56 36 1 296 (WNW) 227 - Clear 08:48Z 55 40 4 269 (W) 227 - Clear 09:18Z 52 40 4 266 (W) 227 - Clear 09:48Z 54 41 3 267 (W) 227 - Mostly Clear 10:19Z 53 41 2 271 (W) 227 - Mostly Clear 10:49Z 53 41 5 279 (W) 227 - Clear 11:19Z 54 41 6 272 (W) 227 - Mostly Clear 11:49Z 54 41 6 279 (W) 227 - Clear 12:19Z 54 41 3 270 (W) 227 - Clear ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- 02:45Z Doors Open, Fans On 03:15Z Enclosure Open 11:30Z Enclosure Closed, Fans Off Stowed at 30 deg alt, cartridge 6 installed.
