Seeing was average throughout and we were only briefly interrupted by clouds around Frame 180 (lambda=+133). After that we switched to spectro, finishing the plate we began last night (2285). We finished a second plate (2286) and came oh-so-close to finishing a sequentially-appropriate third (2287). ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: ---------- We got the NaN value for IPARATE in spectro fits header warning for the flat and arc (but not the bias) today: 2005-11-25 22:34:20Z: NaN value for IPARATE in spectro fits header 2005-11-25 22:36:38Z: NaN value for IPARATE in spectro fits header No formal spectro collimation was done (supernova night) but the postCal showed all x/wsigma values to be in the black. The spectrographs are currently collimated for a temperature of approximately +2 degrees C. Night: ------ We ran an on-telescope bias in the dark enclosure during twilight (Run 5904), then got set up on our SN stripe in twilight. 01:00Z Run 5905 (SN Stripe 82 N, startLambda=+109). This run was in focus from the beginning, about Frame 15, although we note that tonight's best starting focus value of -50 was about 100 steps from last night's (-150) under similar conditions. Skippy was happy from the start as well. Around Frame 180 (lambda=+133), some clouds drifted in which we think were purely orographic as they were not even visible on the infrared satellite image. It was clear again within about 15 minutes. The rest of the run was photometric, though the sky didn't seem too transparent to the eye. Science ended at Frame 863 (lambda=-125, RA= 60, 09:23Z), and we ramped down 2.5 degrees to end the drift at Frame 880 (lambda=-122.5, RA=62.5, 09:33Z. Switched to spectro, with the Moon up for the rest of the night. Up first was Cart 6, needing one exposure to be declared done. 09:50Z Cart 6 Plate 2285 (tile 1651, chunk122). We start with (S/N)^2 of 12.4 already on this plate. No GSOGTF but we found the glow of an fk5InFiber number 10. Looks like Steph's changes to the instBlock helped. Finished this plate in one exposure of 900 s. 10:30Z Cart 8 Plate 2286 (tile 1644, chunk 122). GSOGTF. Did 2 x 900 s exposures which at first looked like it would give us sufficient (S/N)^2 on a third exposure, but then the efficiency bomed a little as seeing degraded. We bumped the last exposure up a little to compensate and came in just under the wire. SoS asked for a postCalib after we already had the cart off the telescope. 11:40Z Cart 4 Plate 2287 (tile 1636, chunk122). GSOGTF. We recognized that by skipping preCalibs and taking an arc and flat after our science exposures, later in twilight, we could finish this cartridge given the conditions and available time left before twilight. We did three exposures of 900, 900 and 1200 s, respectively, but the gamble didn't pay off -- we came up just a little too short to call this one done. Alas. And alack.
