Run 6568 imaged 82 S between lambda 111 and -123 including ramps There was a stretch of bad seeing of around 2.5 arcseconds between lambda 130 and 155 (frames 150 and 300), but the rest of the run was in the low 2's or better, and the last 300 frames were consistently below 2 arcseconds. It was clear for the entire run with no moon. Finished two plates, Cartridge 4 2438, and Cartridge 1 2572. Moved spectro focus to ~7C with 5000 mechPiston (never cooled off). No rotator aborts tonight. Did the amplifier switch do the trick? Time will tell. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternon: -------- Sky is clear. Temp 8C, wind 13 mph. Didn't change the spectrograph focus. It is set for 1-2C. All systems checked and working. Best seeing is around 1.1 arcseconds, worst is over 2.5 and it changes every few frames. The 3.5m is reporting similar variability. 03:30Z The good news is the seeing has settled to a fairly consistent value. The bad news is that value is about 2.3 arcseconds since frame 150 (lambda 130). 05:30Z Getting periods of better seeing now, spending more time below 2 arcseconds than above. 08:30Z Seeing has been good or acceptable for the last 50 frames or so. Lambda starting around -155. We considered switching to the end of the high priority segue stripe 1356 and getting an hour's worth before moonrise, but it would put the altitude at or near 80 degrees, making the rates too high, so we continued with the last hour of 82 S. 09:41Z End of science frame 841, lambda -125 09:52Z Switching to spectroscopy. Making adjustment to spectrograph focus (it never cooled off significantly from the afternoon temperature).
