APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Friday December 1, 2006 (MJD 54071) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Kaike Pan ET Team: Jian Ge Scott Fleming PengCheng Guo Support: Jon Brinkman: the weather status did not show dust counts, Jon fixed it. Visitor: Elena Malanushenko ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- ET Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- A good ET night although 1.5 hours was lost due to fiber problems, checking low fluxes on cart 4, and fighting in observing cart 1. All 8 ET cartridges got chances to see the sky but the field of cartridge #1 (plate 8033) was too close to the moon to aquire good data. On the other 7 plates, we got 10 50-min exposures. Notes: For most ET plates, guider could NOT get stars on edges of the fields into centers of guiding fibers. Is this due to plate drilling, designing problem, or something else? ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: ---------- Home and relax primary mirrors. Galils and MIGs numbers are the same as before expcept for MIG number of C ( As engineering crew found). The MIG number of C changed from 25.349 to 27.935. the watcher complained on ln2temp and ccdtemp of CCD 00 (PT). An iack from mop stoped the complains. Night: ------- 00:45Z cart 8, plt 8032. Fk5 used for the field. 01:00 started a 50-min template exposure. Then ET setup for science exposure. 01:55Z started another 50-min exposure. 02:55Z cart 4, plt 8030. Fk5 used for the field. 03:03Z started a 50-min template exposure. 04:00Z ET team found that there was a problem. They examined the cartridge and did not found anything obviously wrong. They also examined long fibers, and did not find anything wrong either. So they cleaned fibers. 04:35Z cart 1, plt 8033. After we go to field, we found that the field is too close to the moon because all fibers were illuminated even when I go to FK5 stars. we could not guided. Since they got some problem in the data of the last plate and there is no avaiable other plate, they decided to go back to the previous cartridge even the alttude is low. 04:50Z cart 4, plt 8030. FK5 used for the field. 05:00Z started a 50-min exposure. 05:55Z ET calibration. 06:05Z cart 2, plt 8018. Stars on GTF. 06:14Z started a 50-min template exposure. No guiding stars on fiber 7 and 9. 07:08, started a 50-min science exposure. 08:05Z cart 6, plt 8016. Stars on GTF. 08:10Z started a 50-min exposure. 09:10Z cart 7, plt 8017. FK5 used for the field. 09:20Z started a 50-min exposure. 10:15Z scott saw that one mask popped out from the MTP of one long fiber bundle. It was not clear if the mask belongs to the long fiber bundle or one short bundle plugged in cartridge 7. 35 minutes was lost due to examined the fibers. 10:50Z cart 3, plt 8024. stars on GTF. 10:54Z started one 50-min exposure. 11:55Z cart 5, plt 8025. Stars on GTF. 12:00Z started one 50-min exposure. 13:05Z endNight finished. ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): QA Procedures Done (y/n): UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 41651, plate -9999 ------- 23:50 41651 0.0 bias ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 02:16Z 8 8032 -68.46 0.0006 61.17 0.0029 124.12 0.0035 0.999800 03:27Z 4 8030 -14.53 -0.0002 50.46 0.0017 167.71 -0.0112 0.999690 05:28Z 4 8030 -51.82 -0.0007 36.15 0.0005 138.31 0.0178 0.999850 06:33Z 2 8018 116.02 0.0018 57.58 0.0024 -88.38 0.0012 1.000230 08:13Z 6 8016 22.29 0.0011 54.95 0.0019 198.57 -0.0111 1.000070 09:29Z 7 8017 9.20 0.0010 62.18 0.0024 187.73 0.0585 1.000110 10:59Z 3 8024 59.42 0.0032 65.21 0.0017 229.61 0.0075 1.000120 12:02Z 5 8025 50.14 -0.0007 48.57 0.0008 220.19 -0.0120 1.000020 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 00:31Z 8 0 1.00000 0 1257 0 121 30.0 2.0 3 6 02:16Z 8 8032 0.99980 1975 3014 230 -68 61.1 1.0 9 297 -- 1.3 03:27Z 4 8030 0.99969 3061 3863 150 -15 50.5 0.5 12 303 -- 1.6 05:28Z 4 8030 0.99985 1481 2576 120 -52 36.2 -0.9 5 193 -- 1.5 06:32Z 2 8018 1.00023 -2271 -611 110 116 57.5 -0.2 7 222 -- 1.4 08:13Z 6 8016 1.00007 -691 714 120 22 55.0 -0.5 8 254 -- 1.3 09:29Z 7 8017 1.00011 -1086 368 120 9 62.2 -0.7 7 272 -- 1.4 11:00Z 3 8024 1.00012 -1185 260 100 59 65.2 -0.4 13 275 -- 1.6 12:02Z 5 8025 1.00002 -198 1122 100 50 48.6 -0.6 9 281 -- 1.6 ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 21:34Z 36 2 14 342 (NNW) 48 - 22:06Z 37 2 3 349 (NNW) 33 - 22:38Z 37 2 7 6 (N) 39 - 23:10Z 36 2 11 306 (NW) 47 - 23:40Z 36 1 3 334 (NNW) 79 - 00:11Z 35 0 12 350 (NNW) 45 - 00:41Z 35 2 10 322 (NW) -9999 - 01:11Z 33 1 8 21 (NNE) -9999 - 01:42Z 33 2 10 298 (WNW) -9999 - 02:15Z 34 1 8 271 (W) -9999 - 02:47Z 33 2 9 315 (NW) -9999 - 03:17Z 32 1 9 311 (NW) 76 - 03:47Z 32 1 6 306 (NW) 88 - 04:17Z 32 1 2 277 (W) 63 - 04:48Z 32 1 5 281 (W) 83 - 05:18Z 31 2 1 218 (SW) 86 - 05:51Z 32 3 2 229 (SW) 88 - 06:23Z 29 -1 5 241 (WSW) 54 - 06:56Z 31 5 8 232 (SW) 308 - 07:28Z 31 0 7 222 (SW) 212 - 08:00Z 31 3 10 223 (SW) 290 - 08:30Z 31 3 10 248 (WSW) 248 - 09:01Z 31 4 7 260 (W) 198 - 09:32Z 30 3 6 287 (WNW) 170 - 10:04Z 31 4 8 269 (W) 178 - 10:37Z 31 4 7 270 (W) 155 - 11:08Z 31 5 14 297 (WNW) 186 - 11:38Z 31 5 14 294 (WNW) 179 - 12:09Z 30 6 9 272 (W) 158 - 12:41Z 31 5 6 292 (WNW) 133 - 13:14Z 33 6 7 274 (W) 153 - ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- 23:30Z Fans on, Louvers and doors open. 00:22Z Enclosure off. 13:00Z Enclosure on, fans off, louvers close.
