APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Sunday March 18, 2007 (MJD 54178) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Swing: Kaike Pan Night: Viktor Malanushenko Mike Harvanek ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- We finished 7 plates (2557, 2592, 2492, 2496, 2500, 2452, 2122). Landru froze again and cost us nearly half an hour of science time. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: ---------- Afternoon checkout went smoothly. Spectro focus set for 9 C. Imager dewar replaced. Cartridge 1 mounted. Night: ------ 01:25Z Opened the enclosure to partly cloudy skies. We begin with spectroscopy. 01:46Z Plate 2557 (cartridge 4), segue: No guide stars, no fk5. There are clouds though. We wait for 10 minutes and try again. We find an fk5 and acquire the field. When combined with data from last night (54177), we finished this plate in 3 exposures (3720 sec total). SoS gave an assortment of scattered light, sky and whopping fiber warnings. NOTE: Last night's science exposures for this plate (43623-5) were mistakenly labeled "bad". We redeclared them as "excellent" and redid the SoS reductions. Their quality keyword is now "excellent". However, they were "bad" when endNight was run last night. Don't know if this will cause complications during the reductions but this is a heads up, just in case. 03:36Z Plate 2592 (cartridge 7), legacy: Guide stars on the gotoField. When combined with data from last night (54177), we finished this plate in 3 exposures (3000 sec total). 03:57Z Landru locked up again and Viktor had to reboot it and restart everything from the beginning. We lost 26 minutes total including the exposure in progress. 05:18Z Plate 2492 (cartridge 6), legacy: Guide stars on the gotoField. We finished this plate in 3 exposures (4200 sec total). SoS gave a single bad sky residual warning. 06:52Z Plate 2496 (cartridge 8), legacy: An fk5 was needed to acquire the field. Guide fiber 1 was disabled because its FWHM was twice the FWHM of the other fibers. We finished this plate in 3 exposures (2340 sec total). 07:57Z Plate 2500 (cartridge 3), legacy: Guide stars on the gotoField after the offsets were cleared. We finished this plate in 3 exposures (2880 sec total). 09:12Z Plate 2452 (cartridge 9), segue: Guide stars on the gotoField. We lost 21 minutes when a science exposure was started before the previous exposure had finished reading out. When we tried to abort this exposure we got a message that the mechanicals were not responding and we just had to let this bogus exposure time out. The lost time was billed to "other software problem." We finished this plate in 3 exposures (3120 sec total). SoS warned of scattered light and whopping fibers. 10:51Z Plate 2122 (cartridge 5), legacy: Guide stars on the gotoField. We finished this plate in 3 exposures. Since there was not enough time left to mount another cartridge and get a science exposure, we took a bonus 4th exposure on this plate (giving 3240 sec total). endNight rejoiced. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6759 22:58Z 23:17Z 100 O -130.22 -125.39 45 ignore ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): YES QA Procedures Done (y/n): YES UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 43640, plate -9999 ------- 22:57 43640 0.0 bias ----- sequence 43641, plate 2676 ------- 23:10 43641 10.0 flat 23:12 43642 2.0 arc 23:15 43643 3.0 arc 23:18 43644 3.0 arc 23:28 43645 3.0 arc 23:30 43646 3.0 arc 23:40 43647 10.0 flat 23:43 43648 2.0 arc 00:30 43649 0.0 bias ----- sequence 43650, plate -9999 ------- 01:17 43650 0.0 bias ----- sequence 43651, plate 2557 ------- 14.5 3.3 ???
