APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Tuesday June 12, 2007 (MJD 54264) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Kaike Pan Dmitry Bizyaev Shannon Watters (afternoon) Frech Leger (support) ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- We had Ne lamp problem (see log. French know the problem). The problem prevent us from taking arc exposures from SoPGUI. But we can take calibration exposures from SoP session with goStare. We imaging seque strip 1140 S from mu=197 to 322 (including ramps). During the scan, skippy could not find any star on astrometric chip 76. We accidently typed in NO for PT data pipeline. We observed three secondary patchs, we should answered YES. Sorry for this. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: -------- Had to reboot photo 1 & 2 as well as astro 1 at the start of the afternoon. Spectro focus set to 9-10C. Night: ----- During afternoon checkout, One of shannon's arc exposures was rejected by SoS because of too few lamp on. But his next attempt was good. During on site telescope checkout, Shannon found that only one Ne lamp was on when he turned on lamps, and was reportable for several attempts. Then he got French there. French took all Ne lamps off (with help from Shannon, Kaike), clean their contactors, then three of four Ne lamps could be turned on, while the other refuse to light up. French replaced its power supply, then sometimes, all four Ne lamp could be on, some other times, only two or three would be on. Since at that time, sky looked okay, French decided to released the telescope to us and will track down the problem tomorrow. Thanks to French for working on this and have lamps marginally work. 02:40Z started ventilation. 03:10Z enclosure off 03:45Z cart 3, plate 2744 (chunk). When we went to field with gflat, when got a message of flat exposure too faint. Counts in fiber must be > 500. After a few attempts, we hit on "stop guider" on SoP GUI even though we never started the guider tonight (Because goto field with guider on gives us the same message). So luckly, our next attempt on goto field worked properly. Not too long after we foud stars, could came in (actually not came in, they were forming just over us). So we decided to move the enclosure back on with ventilation on. 05:10Z sky started to clear up, but there was a threathening cloud on north side, not far from us. We decided to watch it long. 05:40Z We decided to open again. But when everything was ready, we cloud not moved the building. We checked everything, they were okay. I used bypass to check if it was interlock problem, it was not. Then we wake up French (sorry to French who has been worked on Ne lamps this evening for extra hours. French found the problem was dur to overloading the building. We are not sure why it was overloaded. When we closed enclosure about two hours ago, we slightly (not much) went over, but we checked and found it was NOT overloaded at the moment. Anyway, thanks so much to French. 06:25Z cart 5, plate 2768 (chunk). FK5 used to find guiding stars. the offsets were larger: 10, 20. During the pre-cal, only three Ne lamps were on. We tried about ten times, it was consistent that only three (the same three) could be turn on. The calibration exposure quited without taking the arc exposure. So this meant that we cloud not do spectroscopy tonight. Since sky was marginally photometric at the moment and seeing was about 1.4", we decided to gave imager a chance to work tonight. 06:50Z decided to switch to imager. 07:40Z run 6849, Segue 1140 S. Since we did exercise imager for a while, we decide to start the scan 8 degree before the science starting mu. After we setup focus, skippy was not very happy, we thought this was due to that we were still a few degree away from the begining of the stripe. So we let the scan going untill we reach the stripe ramp 297.Skippy was still not happy. We realized that we may get pointing problem. Then we use MCP to force fiducial scrossings and send the telescope back to the stripe. 08:15Z run 6850, Seque 1140 S. Focus was good, skippy was happy from the begining. 08:27Z started the ramp at 297, frame # 26. 08:35Z, started the science atmu=299 frame # 39. 10:00Z ended science at mu=320, frame number of 181. 10:08Z ended the ramp at 322, frame # 194. Because of moon rising and of twilight starting, we could not finished the stripe, we decided to endDrift here, and move the enclosure back on for bias run. During the scan, we noticed that skippy could not find any stars on chip 76, and there were about 3 to 5 frames (at frame # 100) had seeing measurement over 1.7". 10:25Z run 6851, on-telescopr bias. 40 frames. 11:00Z closed 2.5m, waiting for PT morning twilight flats. 11:20Z during the waiting time, we took a test arc exposure from sop seesion (not GUI) with three NE lamps on. We want to check if the SoS will reduce the exposure. It turned out Sos reduced it and consider it perfect. So the test result indicated that if engineering team could not fix the problem today, we can still do spectroscopy tonight by taking calibration exposures from SoP with goStare commands. 12:00Z during endNight, Kaike accidently typed NO for the question : should PT data go through PT pipeline? The answer should be YES. Because we had three secondary patches. endNight finished. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6848 23:26Z 23:45Z 100 O -38.40 -33.59 46 ignore 6849 07:36Z 08:07Z 1140 S 105.54 113.53 67 ignore 6850 08:16Z 10:08Z 1140 S 109.30 137.37 202 science 6851 10:23Z 10:43Z 100 O 126.21 131.25 48 bias ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6850 47 4 120 8.800 0.154 0.800 0.121 0.00900 97 69 6850 72 4 113 8.800 0.175 0.200 0.146 0.00881 103 68 6850 124 4 151 8.900 0.148 -0.900 0.135 0.00713 115 67 6850 173 4 93 7.800 0.163 -2.100 0.192 0.00594 126 65 6850 175 4 88 7.900 0.163 -2.200 0.152 0.00546 127 64 ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 6850 41 1 69 83 72 -0.806 0.199 -3.335 0.201 0.01121 6850 41 1 69 83 57 -0.721 0.184 -3.429 0.158 0.01153 6850 41 1 69 83 57 -0.360 0.174 -3.230 0.195 0.01086 6850 41 1 69 83 74 -0.183 0.181 -3.026 0.242 0.01017 6850 41 1 69 83 78 0.112 0.145 -2.856 0.181 0.00960 6850 81 1 68 74 73 -0.628 0.226 -4.121 0.179 0.01386 6850 81 1 68 74 71 -0.240 0.209 -3.793 0.262 0.01275 6850 81 1 68 74 66 0.073 0.215 -3.679 0.294 0.01237 6850 81 1 68 74 70 0.353 0.193 -3.726 0.327 0.01253 6850 81 1 68 74 80 0.610 0.183 -3.580 0.213 0.01204 6850 94 1 67 70 76 -0.816 0.264 -3.336 0.160 0.01121 6850 94 1 67 70 68 -0.424 0.202 -3.057 0.188 0.01028 6850 94 1 67 70 73 -0.059 0.203 -2.727 0.233 0.00917 6850 94 1 67 70 77 0.392 0.199 -2.411 0.224 0.00810 6850 94 1 67 70 64 0.642 0.213 -2.414 0.352 0.00812 6850 99 1 67 69 43 -1.309 0.210 -2.896 0.230 0.00974 6850 99 1 67 69 50 -1.098 0.334 -2.842 0.285 0.00955 6850 99 1 67 69 54 -0.496 0.241 -2.568 0.372 0.00864 6850 99 1 67 69 53 -0.207 0.221 -2.159 0.364 0.00726 6850 99 1 67 69 53 0.169 0.199 -2.203 0.221 0.00741 6850 133 1 66 61 75 -2.201 0.174 -2.961 0.235 0.00996 6850 133 1 66 61 80 -1.801 0.119 -2.887 0.233 0.00971 6850 133 1 66 61 77 -1.392 0.207 -2.568 0.184 0.00863 6850 133 1 66 61 80 -1.004 0.222 -2.326 0.213 0.00782 6850 133 1 66 61 65 -0.714 0.256 -2.526 0.248 0.00849 6850 151 1 65 57 57 -1.424 0.132 -2.923 0.176 0.00983 6850 151 1 65 57 73 -1.089 0.140 -2.809 0.212 0.00945 6850 151 1 65 57 70 -0.631 0.201 -2.670 0.212 0.00898 6850 151 1 65 57 62 -0.327 0.176 -2.674 0.196 0.00899 6850 151 1 65 57 46 -0.042 0.180 -2.596 0.172 0.00873 6850 166 1 65 54 54 -0.415 0.218 -2.899 0.213 0.00975 6850 166 1 65 54 63 -0.029 0.171 -2.775 0.262 0.00933 6850 166 1 65 54 59 0.379 0.211 -2.707 0.190 0.00910 6850 166 1 65 54 47 0.601 0.274 -2.560 0.202 0.00861 6850 166 1 65 54 42 1.022 0.240 -2.378 0.188 0.00800 6850 183 1 64 50 38 -1.424 0.139 -2.450 0.144 0.00824 6850 183 1 64 50 50 -1.135 0.149 -2.248 0.185 0.00756 6850 183 1 64 50 43 -0.701 0.172 -2.248 0.239 0.00756 6850 183 1 64 50 32 -0.481 0.156 -1.921 0.174 0.00646 6850 183 1 64 50 36 -0.172 0.147 -1.810 0.170 0.00609 ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): QA Procedures Done (y/n): UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 45300, plate -9999 ------- 23:29 45300 0.0 bias ----- sequence 45301, plate 2744 ------- 23:34 45301 10.0 flat 23:36 45302 2.0 arc 23:40 45303 3.0 arc 23:42 45304 3.0 arc 00:06 45305 3.0 arc 00:08 45306 3.0 arc 00:30 45307 2.0 arc 00:32 45308 3.0 arc 00:48 45309 3.0 arc 00:50 45310 2.0 arc ----- sequence 45313, plate 2768 ------- 06:32 45313 10.0 flat 11:23 45314 0.0 bias 11:26 45315 2.0 arc ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 08:42Z imager 81.82 0.0000 68.44 0.0000 196.19 0.0000 1.000000 09:16Z imager 68.03 0.0000 67.01 0.0000 187.00 0.0000 1.000000 09:57Z imager 52.00 0.0000 64.16 0.0000 175.74 0.0000 1.000000 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 04:02Z 3 2744 1.00000 0 1127 0 -16 72.4 11.6 8 268 08:45Z imager 1.00000 0 -418 -287 81 68.3 9.9 6 309 23 1.2 09:12Z imager 1.00000 0 -415 -286 70 67.2 10.2 8 302 23 1.2 09:57Z imager 1.00000 0 -401 -279 52 64.2 10.0 6 268 23 1.1 ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 23:29Z 56 39 10 264 (W) 539 -
