APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Tuesday January 22, 2008 (MJD 54488) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Kaike Pan, Audrey Simmons, Shannon Watters (afternoon) ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- We had thick clouds that prevented us from getting pointing model, we did not open. we finished: 1) changed spectro focus to its winter setting, and did spectro monthly checkout, Position fibers and spectra in wavelength on CCDs, and adjusted focus to -1.5 C. 2) built new fiducial tables and installed them. 3) obtained a set of dithered flats. 4) completed imager monthly checkout: bias and flats. Data were saved on pheonix. We noticed that lights in extension supporting building were left on, but we could not get in to turn them off. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: --------- All systems checked and working. Found the upper limit for the collimator positions (using mechPiston). Both sp1 and sp2 were limted by the movement of motor A. Here are the focus limits for them assuming we started at the lower limits. A lower A upper Range sp1: -18436 28583 47019 sp2: -8278 35766 44044 Set them in the middle of their ranges. Here are the final motor positions: A B C sp1: 5070 4503 4605 sp2: 13718 12773 12632 We then moved the rings on the red cameras until "goSpecFocus" and "collimate" were close to focus. We moved r1 from 20 to 60 degrees and r2 from 140 to 180 degrees. We then had to readjust the rings on the blue cameras according to "collimate". b1 was moved from 356 to 30 degrees and b2 from 358 to 33 degrees. Did the spectro monthly checkout. The spectrographs are set for -1.5C. Night: ----- built fiducial new tables (V1_69) and check them in. 07:20Z cart 5, plate 2647.
