APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Sunday March 2, 2008 (MJD 54528) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Dan Oravetz swatters Howard Brewington (dayShift) ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Alchemy! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- Snowy, windy, cold; we never opened. We did begin taking MSP imager calibration data (see log). On closing the PT Dan-O noticed a lot of snow made its way into the PT enclosure. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: ---------- I discovered no problems during the afternoon checkout. The spectro focus was checked but not adjusted; it's set for about +3.0 degrees C. The focus numbers via collimate are posted in the Problems Section. The disk space at /data and /files was good; see below: Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on /dev/sda3 142G 125G 9.7G 93% / /dev/sda1 99M 30M 64M 33% /boot /dev/sdb1 917G 608G 263G 70% /data sdssfiles1:/data1/data 1.5T 541G 852G 39% /files iccSoundOff responded that all crates were available; see Problems Section for command's output. I did not start ventilation because of high winds and dust. Night: ------ MSP Data Run 7352 01:57Z Frame 1 - MSP imager bias 02:01Z QE for u1 First exposure: idR-7352-u1-2.fit Last exposure: idR-7352-u1-32.fit The illumination pattern doesn't seem to be centered on the chip but I let the test run all the way through for reference and am taking more exposures with different positions after homing the postion again. stageY changed from 480 to 580 Same setting as idR-7352-u1-30.fit (lambda = 380, time = 15): idR-7352-u1-35.fit (where are 33 and 34?) (had to start another msp session because the first wasn't responding). ############################################################################# Run 7353 - Regular imager bias ############################################################################# Run 7354 05:05Z Frame 1 - MSP imager bias 05:12Z Still testing lamp position... stageY changed from 480 to 580 Same settings as idR-7352-u1-25.fit (lambda = 405, time = 90): idR-7354-u1-2.fit The illumination moved "down"; further from center. stageY changed back to 480 & stageX changed from 2310 to 5310 (paddle units) Same settings as idR-7352-u1-25.fit (lambda = 405, time = 90): idR-7354-u1-3.fit Same as above but after issuing "mspSend -echo stageX 53100". When the exposure began it claims stageX is at 23100. With the new code and operating mode this shouldn't matter but I wanted to see how it responded: idR-7354-u1-5.fit idR-7354-u1-3.fit and idR-7354-u1-5.fit don't look the same but shouldn't they? So here is another exposure with the same settings: idR-7354-u1-6.fit - looks like the last exposure. Anyway, it's hard to tell how the change in stageX effects the images because there are 2 illumination spots. Going to try with a shorter exposure time. Same settings as idR-7352-u1-10.fit (lambda = 365, time = 8): idR-7354-u1-7.fit 7354-u1-7 looks slightly closer to center (right) than 7352-u1-10 stageX changed from 5310 to 8310 (paddle units) Same settings as idR-7352-u1-10.fit (lambda = 365, time = 8: idR-7354-u1-8.fit This looks close to center. Could something on the stageX have changed with all the engineering work done on it? I'm going to move stageX to the position we'd usually find u2 at and then offset it by 6000 to compare the positions of the illumination. stageX changed to 11410 (paddle units) Same settings as idR-7352-u1-10.fit (lambda = 365, time = 8): idR-7354-u2-9.fit stageX changed to 17410 (paddle units) Same settings as idR-7352-u1-10.fit (lambda = 365, time = 8): idR-7354-u2-10.fit It's hard to tell which one is better centered. The 2 amps for u2 are too different to be able to pan out and compare the whole images. Going to try to fine tune the center of u1 (8310 looks a little to far right) and redo QE for u1 with stageX set to that position to see if the dataset is better than the first u1 QE run (02:01Z) stageX changed to 7220 (paddle units) Same settings as idR-7352-u1-10.fit (lambda = 365, time = 8): idR-7354-u1-11.fit Maybe too far left...going to take a longer exposure to get a larger pattern lambda = 365, time = 30: idR-7354-u1-12.fit If it isn't centered it's close. Mamoru, would you please comment on this. 07:07Z QE for u1 with stageX = 7220 (paddle units) First exposure: idR-7354-u1-13.fit Last exposure: idR-7354-u1-43.fit 09:10Z Finding the center of u2 using lambda = 365, time = 30 The old stageX offset between chips was 9100 so moved stageX to 16320 (paddle units). idR-7354-u2-44.fit It's hard to tell because of the difference between the 2 amps but it looks close to center. 09:16Z QE for u2 with stageX = 16320 (paddle units) First exposure: idR-7354-u2-45.fit It froze; sat in the same state for 10 minutes and won't respond to anything (note the reported stageX is wrong): stageX 114100 lambda 390.0 time 30.000 7354 72 u2 im cameraNag {} t-g-sdss-2.apo.nmsu.edu 3500 2008-03-03 10:52:44Z: opening camera doors flux 416.6 aflux 7370525.1 volts 0.0000 avolts -0.0927 voltsRms 0.0007 avoltsRms 0.0071 2008-03-03 10:54:00Z: closing camera doors 2008-03-03 10:54:00Z: issuing stop to im im cameraNag {} t-g-sdss-2.apo.nmsu.edu 3500 2008-03-03 10:54:01Z: Creating/Updating report files and headers leap seconds = 32 2008-03-03 10:54:04Z: scheduling gangs2Unix transfers There already is a teamster, PID 23142, owned by swatters forcing the teamster didn't work.
