APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Wednesday March 18, 2009 (MJD 54909) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Kaike Pan Steph Snedden Visitors: Erin Kohlenberg (UW) ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- SEGUEScience! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- Four plates observed. The following plate is done: 3296 Good signal obtained on 3286, 3243, 3289 The guider stopped during an exposure. See the log body for details. We replaced the Paralan in the computer room and had to restart the TCC because of a hung TCC guider process. Unless we hear differently from Nathan, we no longer need to record the first guider frame number for each plate. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: --------- No problems noted during afternoon checkout. Removed MJD 54886 data from disks. --------------- The disk space is now: /dev/sdb1 917G 813G 59G 94% /data sdssfiles1p:/data1/data 1.5T 683G 710G 50% /files Spectro focus set for about 7 C. 23:45Z - Started building ventilation Night: ----- 01:20Z - Opened enclosure Cartridge 6, plate 3286 - SEGUE Feb09_a --------------------------------------- 01:50 - Used an FK5 in bright twilight to find the field. The first two exposures didn't make the S/N criteria because of clouds. The first one was so low, I declared it bad. Clouds thinned enough for the remaining four exposures to be very useful, but plate is not yet done. ---- logfile-54909.html ---- --------------------------------------------------- MJD b1 r1 b2 r2 Texp Sum --------------------------------------------------- 54909 2.8 1.5 3.4 2.3 1800.0 10.0 54909 4.4 2.7 6.1 4.7 1800.0 17.9 54909 9.2 5.2 11.3 8.9 1800.0 34.6 54909 7.9 5.8 9.7 8.4 1800.0 31.8 54909 6.7 4.9 8.9 7.6 1800.0 28.1 --------------------------------------------------- Total: 31.0 20.1 39.4 31.9 9000.0 --> 122.4 Total when ALL b,r values > 2.0: 28.2 18.6 36.0 29.6 7200.0 --> 112.4 (limit=156.5) --------------------------------------------------- 06:04Z - Cartridge 2, plate 3243 - SEGUE Jan 09a ------------------------------------------------ Needed an FK5 to find the field. Seeing was worse (2.2"), but clouds were thinner. During the second exposure, Kaike's guider loop stopped updating. The guider mac displayed a "reply stream error". The last time this happened, it was a bad fiber connection. We checked and even replaced the control room Paralan in case it was a bad fiber connector, and then we noticed the following in telrun: 0 0 W DeadProc="T_GCAMUSER" So, we had a hung guider process. We still may have had a confused Paralan as well, that caused the hung guider process. We did a telstop/telrun, restarted SOP (broken pipe) and got back in business. We probably lost fifteen minutes to the problem. In spite of all this, the exposure was good.
