Observed four BOSS cartridges: 3536 - four 900 s exposures 3558 - five 900 s exposures 3588 - two 900 s exposures 3622 - two 900 s exposures A sequence of dithered flats was takenon sp1 with cartridge 11. Frames 102529 - 102550. Kyle sent out a list of new BOSS plates to plug. The spectro autofill interlock said the fill lines were on when they were not. Their connectors were covered with ice, and when that was brushed off, the interlock cleared. Ticket 369 filed on boss exposure abort requiring a sop restart. Ticket 370 filed on "guider on" command. Ticket 371 filed on sop doCalibs nbias=1. We noticed that if there are fairly significant clouds, the focus loop does not converge. We were seeing guide stars every second or third frame through the clouds, and the focus loop was having trouble following this. Ticket 374. If you are far enough out of focus to see guide star donuts, the focus loop does not work. Not too surprising - something about the focus loop not using a 2-d donutsian fitting routine ;-). There was a large difference (about 300 units) between the correct focus between cartridges 12 and 10. The edges of the guide fibers on cartridge 10 were in focus, so we don't think this difference has anything to do with the guide fiber block being at a different focus. On cartridge 12 the focus loop appeared to work. On cartridges 10, 13 and 11, the focus loop drove almost-in-focus stars to donuts in two steps of about 100 units. It tends to drive the focus down from positive values toward a value of zero. Ticket 373. The spectrograph 1 right Hartmann shutter repeatedly showed a status of "unknown" on exposures 102506, 102508, 102510, 102518, 102520. Our best guess is a hardware problem with the shutter or its status switch. We could see a reasonable difference in flux levels, indicating the shutter was at least opening/closing most of the way. Ticket 372. Guide fiber 5 on cartridge 11 had something (a hair?) occulting the guide star. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: ---------- No problems noted at the telescope during afternoon checkout. Night: ------ 00:35Z - opened enclosure After the LN2 fill, the axes would not init. The root cause was the sp autofill line connected sensor. The lines WERE disconnected. After brushing ice from around the fill connectors, the axes cleared. While waiting to see what the clouds were going to do, we tested Kyle's new collimate script. It appears to work, and since it runs IDL sessions in parallel on the four cameras, is very fast. Instructions will be addd to the command-line document. Although skies were mostly clear, there were clouds close enough Cartridge 12, plate 3536 - BOSS ------------------------------- GSOGTF sop hartmann - Flat-field petals stay open when the arc lamps turn on. This is a known problem - Ticket 364. boss exposure abort: We used this command to stop an arc exposure that had the flat-field petals open. We then had problems with subsequent exposures not starting, with no error messages. We needed a sop restart to get going again. Please confirm this is the correct procedure. Ticket 369 filed. 01:50Z After taking the calibrations, the guider was started with "guider on", and no exposure time specified. The guider actor then crashed and had to be restarted from stageManager. Ticket 370 filed. After three 15-minute exposures, we decided to take a bias using sop doCalibs nbias=1. The guider loop stopped, and the flat field petals closed after the bias was read out. We don't think either of those things should happen for a bias. Ticket 371 filed.
