APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Wednesday August 8, 2001 (MJD 52130) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Daniel Long Eric Neilsen Steph Snedden (day) Scot Kleinman Atsuko Kleinman Jurek Krzesinski (PT training) Pete Newman (PT training) ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- More Shakedown. Verify pointing model, put on cartridge and test spectroscopy, test bd17smear. Put on imager, test drift scanning, test bright star code. ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- We were only open long enough at the start of the night to focus the engineering camera. Connie did some imager testing remotely. A few shake items not requiring sky were done. Eric continued refining logTool. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- This afternoon during the checkout, the secondary once again complained about the E axis not stopping on a full step. Unlike the last two nights, I was able to change the focus, tracking the same position the telescope was last slewed to. Only when the altitude axis position was changed did the error crop up, and it happened immediately upon moving. Like previous nights, homing the E axis restored proper operation. The position error was 49 counts from the homing status info. We opened around sunset to partly cloudy skies. We had enough time to find a star and focus the engineering camera and start a sparse model to check the pointing accuracy of the new model. Unfortunately even before the first point could be taken, clouds thickened and forced us to close. It was about 21:15. Clouds remained thick and low enough to be threatening the rest of the night. We even got a little light rain after 02:00. Pete and Jurek got a little practice with the PT in the first part of the night. Clouds eventually shut the PT down as well. We tested calcStripeParams new time feature. Eric has already done extensive testing at Fermilab, but it was nice to see it work here. Some time was spent looking over PRs. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Stripe Flavor Lambda Last Begin End Frame Comments ------------------------------------------------------------------ 2475 100 O ignore 33.95 35.26 23 ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot --------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot --------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 10516, plate -9999 ------- 11:05 10516 0.0 bias ----- sequence 10516, plate -9999 ------- 11:05 10516 0.0 bias ----- sequence 10516, plate -9999 ------- 11:05 10516 0.0 bias ----- sequence 10516, plate -9999 ------- 11:05 10516 0.0 bias 11:18 10517 0.0 bias 11:18 10517 0.0 bias 11:18 10517 0.0 bias 11:18 10517 0.0 bias 00:38 10518 0.0 bias {{}} 00:38 10518 0.0 bias {{}} 00:38 10518 0.0 bias {{}} 00:38 10518 0.0 bias {{}} ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument getclock Az Alt Rot Scale ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: JL Stays: JL ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 21:01 engcam 1.00000 0 -2690 -350 96 57.1 13.7 8 264 nd2 1.3 ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 17:00 64 44 2 295 (WNW) 757 - 17:16 63 43 4 262 (W) 762 - 17:32 62 41 6 260 (W) 686 - 17:44 59 41 8 310 (NW) 701 - 18:04 59 40 1 221 (SW) 646 - 18:16 60 41 6 256 (WSW) 698 - Partly Cloudy 18:32 61 40 5 270 (W) 725 - Cirrus 18:44 60 39 4 262 (W) 680 - Partly Cloudy 19:00 61 39 3 224 (SW) 658 - Partly Cloudy 19:17 59 40 4 269 (W) 718 - Partly Cloudy 19:29 58 39 1 277 (W) 697 - Partly Cloudy 19:45 57 39 1 257 (WSW) 791 - Partly Cloudy 20:01 56 39 3 213 (SSW) 736 - Partly Cloudy 20:17 55 39 1 260 (W) 756 - Partly Cloudy 20:29 56 38 3 237 (WSW) 735 - Partly Cloudy 20:45 56 39 9 232 (SW) 756 - Mostly Cloudy 21:01 56 39 8 268 (W) 837 - Mostly Cloudy 21:13 56 39 8 265 (W) 953 - Mostly Cloudy 21:30 56 40 7 265 (W) 939 - Cloudy 21:46 55 40 6 263 (W) 951 - Mostly Cloudy 21:58 56 41 7 266 (W) 980 - Mostly Cloudy 22:18 56 41 8 276 (W) 970 - Mostly Cloudy 22:30 56 40 8 266 (W) 969 - Mostly Cloudy 22:46 55 41 9 251 (WSW) 924 - Partly Cloudy 23:02 54 40 10 231 (SW) 859 - Partly Cloudy 23:14 53 40 11 202 (SSW) 897 - Partly Cloudy 23:30 53 42 8 203 (SSW) 1065 - Mostly Cloudy 23:47 54 42 13 197 (SSW) 1089 - Mostly Cloudy 00:03 54 42 10 197 (SSW) 1054 - Cloudy 00:15 54 42 13 201 (SSW) 1082 - Cloudy 00:31 54 43 14 185 (S) 1059 - Cloudy 00:47 54 43 12 199 (SSW) 969 - Cloudy 01:03 54 43 16 210 (SSW) 966 - Cloudy 01:15 53 43 18 213 (SSW) 998 - Cloudy 01:31 53 44 15 211 (SSW) 1119 - Cloudy 01:35 53 43 14 204 (SSW) 1094 - Cloudy 01:39 53 44 13 214 (SW) 1216 - Cloudy 01:47 53 44 13 198 (SSW) 1175 - Cloudy 02:03 53 44 10 206 (SSW) 1251 - Cloudy 02:15 54 44 12 224 (SW) 1241 - Sprinkles 02:36 54 44 8 251 (WSW) 1267 - Sprinkles 02:48 54 44 9 239 (WSW) 1312 - Cloudy 03:00 53 43 12 213 (SSW) 1227 - Cloudy 03:16 53 43 10 233 (SW) 1009 - Cloudy 03:32 54 42 7 259 (W) 769 - Sprinkles 03:44 54 42 11 234 (SW) 792 - Cloudy 04:00 54 42 11 268 (W) 712 - Cloudy 04:16 53 42 10 268 (W) 725 - Sprinkles 04:32 53 43 10 271 (W) 694 - Cloudy 04:44 53 42 9 268 (W) 709 - Cloudy ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- Stowed at 30 deg alt, engcam installed.
