APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Saturday January 19, 2002 (MJD 52294) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Atsuko Nitta Jurek Krzesinki Larry Carey Eric Neilsen w/ the sacrificial pie to the weather God Jon Brinkmann ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science! Spectroscopy ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- Larry put new actuator A barring (we didn't have any problem with the secondary at temperatures down to -2.8 C tonight). Strange fk5InFiber behaviour (see the problem section). mcptpm produced a future directory (see log or the problem section). We've done two plates: 327 and 831 tonight, most of the time we were covered with clouds. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Larry arrived this afternoon. Jurek and I cruely put him to work -- to replace the actuator A's bearing assembly. The weather looked like we would be cloudy for few hours and therefore we thought there will be no loss in science time by having the telescope down. Jon helped Larry put the actuator on the secondary. Jon homed the secondary after the actuators were installed. The telescope was ready before 3:00. At -2.0 C actuators work fine, we did change the focus as well as the scale and had no problems. -2.8 C actuators work fine too. Before opening, we have some problems with mirros, but after a while we found out that after engeneering work this afternoon there were two HOST TCC_SEC session opened at the enclosure computer, so we couldn't do anything with mirrors. 08:20 we opened telescope and mounted cart 6 plt 327. gotoField - stars found at once, however we had to use startMon -simple mode to get guider images displayed (one fiber didn't fit to the given image size). We lost Relay Servers for a while, but got them back quickly so it didn't cost more than 3 minutes our setting up time. Plate done with two exposures (there were previous observation done to that plate). 09:45 cart 7 plt 831 mounted. Stars found via fk5, but first fk5 command produced a strange error message (see the problem setion). We were coverd again with clouds for half an hour, but then it cleared out and we took another exposure. The last exposure was taken 20 minutes behind the "blue range" from the plate database, but we think, we gain about half an hour of "efficiency" this way. (if we wouldn't have taken that exposure, then next time one would has to do setting up, precalib again for this plate). We finished this plate too, woopee! Twoj plates per night :>> Could one tell us what does this tcc error message means, please: "timed out while writing to hub message mailbox":: (Jan 20 04:23:35 MST) ================================================== By the way we noticed that mcptpm created a directory with MJD 52296 which is the day after tommorow! ================================================== endNight rejoiced ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Stripe Flavor Lambda Last Begin End Frame Comments ------------------------------------------------------------------ 2894 100 O ignore -177.93 -172.30 42 ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot --------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot --------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 00:28 12740 0.0 bias ----- sequence 12741, plate 327 ------- 08:43 12741 10.0 flat 08:45 12742 2.0 arc 09:09 12743 1201.0 target 09:37 12744 1502.0 target 09:43 12745 240.0 smear ----- sequence 12746, plate 831 ------- 10:06 12746 10.0 flat 10:09 12747 2.0 arc 10:26 12748 900.0 target 10:49 12749 1204.0 target 11:47 12750 1201.0 target 11:53 12751 240.0 smear 12:22 12752 1501.0 target 12:25 12753 10.0 flat 12:27 12754 2.0 arc ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument getclock Az Alt Rot Scale ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 02:11 6 327 1011517900 0.004360 -0.001318 -0.006720 0.999960 03:11 7 831 1011521518 0.001303 0.001840 -0.026551 1.000040 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: JL4956 Stays: JL4957 ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 02:12 6 327 0.99996 394 1561 50 35 49.1 -1.4 25 241 gdr 2.0 03:12 7 831 1.00004 -394 867 50 238 63.6 -2.5 22 263 gdr 1.8 ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 16:42 29 -26 11 256 (WSW) 42 - 17:14 32 -31 15 261 (W) 55 - 17:46 30 -24 18 261 (W) 44 - 18:19 30 -29 17 250 (WSW) 38 - 18:51 31 -27 18 253 (WSW) 53 - 19:23 32 -24 21 237 (WSW) 57 - 19:55 32 -20 20 234 (SW) 57 - 20:27 31 -27 15 244 (WSW) 52 - 20:59 30 -25 15 260 (W) 37 - 21:32 31 -17 10 268 (W) 83 - 22:04 31 -20 19 272 (W) 96 - 22:36 30 -11 17 252 (WSW) 110 - 23:08 29 -5 25 257 (WSW) 162 - 23:40 29 -5 21 250 (WSW) 171 - 00:12 29 -5 22 261 (W) 169 - 00:45 29 -3 15 240 (WSW) 193 - 01:17 28 -4 19 248 (WSW) 209 - 01:58 27 -2 20 235 (SW) 258 - 02:30 28 -3 27 232 (SW) 271 - 03:02 28 -4 23 258 (WSW) 262 - 03:34 26 -3 19 264 (W) 293 - 04:07 27 -4 22 267 (W) 345 - 04:37 27 -7 23 269 (W) 292 - 05:11 27 -11 19 277 (W) 243 - 05:44 27 -13 25 268 (W) 224 - ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- Fans on and doors open: around 00:00 08:20 telescope open. ---=== SOFTWARE USED ===--- IOP/SOP: v3_64_3c Watcher: v2_13_2a MCP: v5_8_7 TPM: v2_4_5 AstroDa: v14_40 TCC: 2.5.5 sdssProcedures: v1_37 ---=== MIRROR NUMBERS ===--- PRIMARY: -------- Scale: 1.000000 MIGS TONIGHT NOMINAL Axial A 0.0710 0.0750 Axial B 0.8050 0.8020 Axial C 0.0710 0.0710 Trans D -1.4960 -1.4860 Lateral E 1.8360 1.8540 Lateral F 1.4200 1.4240 GALILS Commanded: 5400. -3700. 900. -200. 31550. 30650.
