APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Sunday October 27, 2002 (MJD 52575) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Jurek Krzesinski Mike Harvanek Dan Long (swing) Alan Uomoto visiting Eric Neilsen (phone) Connie Rockosi (phone) ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Shakedown ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- Afternoon checkout and the night activity showed problems with da, see the problem section and the main log. Eric and Connie helped us to solve the problem. The weather kept us closed most of the night, however we opened for a while and did some eng.cam axes position tests as well as set the eng.cam focus (foc=-650). Then started colecting the pointing model data, but after the first point the clouds came and humidity jumped up, so we closed and never opened afterwards. So, we did additional tests for Connie (bias check with lights on in the enclosure). PT - bad - crushed several times during the night, see PT log for details. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon checkout: goDrift problem during afternoon checkout. Eric and Dan found the way around - see the problem seciton. Waiting for the weather to improve. Eng. camera mounted on the telescope. 03:10Z Finaly we opened, but the humidity is still high, so we are watching telescope surfaces frequently. Checking an optical axis position of a star on the eng. camera ccd. Results: the mean star position on the chip was: 385, 251 (seeing 11x11 pix) should be: 384, 256 Pointing model: as soon as we started, we got weather warning and clouds. We had to close in a hurry... Connie asked us to do some more imager bias test with lights on in the enclosure: 05:30Z Mike tried to take an imager bias in the dog house and his window got frozen. We logged out the port and then Jurek tried to goDrift -bias but his window also got frozen. Then we opened another iop window and tried to start iop in the new window.... but it hung up as well: iop Switching umask from 022 to 002 You should have dss first in your groups list, but I'll let you run anyway dscRun using system v14_47 Executing commands in /p/dervish/v8_7/etc/dervishStartup.tcl: Executing commands in /p/astrotools/v5_6/etc/astrotoolsStartup.tcl astroda OAC version v14_47 -------------------------- and hung. The same problem occured when we tried to run the older iop version (v3_84_0). We called Eric and Connie... Now they are trying to find out what is wrong. 06:24Z Still enough clouds to ruin our pointing model - waiting. 06:36Z Meanwhile Eric called and told us that their conclusion was: "need to reboot da crates if that will not work, then sdsshost should be rebooted". They suspected da problem, because ptvmetest hung. So, we rebooted da - no, still iop is frozen, see if rebooting host will work. After rebooting da and host, we finally got iop working. Eric, cut a new iop version correcting some problems showed up in a server window. So, now we are running iop v3_91_0. 08:29Z we tried more goDrift -bias runs and found out that watcher complains on gangs not tranfered for ad1-ad3 and id1-id3. And finally we got: Waiting for command response from id6 (crate 2, ICC 2), data server (client 1) soft ptvmeReset did not help - still problems with id6, so 08:46Z we had to reboot crate 2 manualy. And after that it was working ok. Started to snow, looks like no more sky tonight. We put the imager on the telescope and did some biases with lights on for Connie. 09:23Z imager on the telescope, both sets of lights fully on, tbars in operational mode. im> goDrift -bias (no problem here) im> mkdir /data/photo/cmr/52575 (Here is a directory we copied the data) im> getAllFrames 3421 25 /data/photo/cmr/52575 im> checkBias 3421 25 /data/photo/cmr/52575 [...] (here we've got a lot of warnings and) h1 (at the end, so we tried to see that h1) im> soaDisplay h1 (that gave us a nice mosaic plot.) im> labelPhtotMosaic -fsao 1 (showed the ccd numbers on that sao image) im> plotBiasvec /data/photo/cmr/52575 3421 25 45 (and here we got a plot, dir run frame ccd "nominal over measured") Connie - can we have that plotBiasves (plotFlatvec) commad changed the way it will accept first run, frame, ccd and then a directory? Like getAllFrames, checkBias - PLEEEEASE :)))) Then we repeated the bias drift and all above checking bias stuff for the direct lights only half way on. 10:50Z The imager moved back to the dog house and eng.camera mounted. endNight finished ok. During putting the telescope to bed, we noticed that alt slip detection # 2 was off. Connie, below are the results of our checkBiases: _________________________________________________ All lights in the enclosure fully on. im> getAllFrames 3421 25 /data/photo/cmr/52575 im> checkBias 3421 25 /data/photo/cmr/52575 {65 WARN: } {65 FAIL: oddEvenAmp } {65 WARN: } {65 FAIL: oddEvenAmp } {11 WARN: leftBiasVector } {11 FAIL: rightBiasVector } {12 WARN: leftBiasVector } {12 FAIL: rightBiasVector } {13 WARN: leftBiasVector } {13 FAIL: } {14 WARN: leftBiasVector rightBiasVector} {14 FAIL: } {15 WARN: rightRNComp } {15 FAIL: } {15 WARN: rightRNComp } {15 FAIL: leftBiasVector rightBiasVector } {16 WARN: } {16 FAIL: leftBiasVector rightBiasVector } {21 WARN: } {21 FAIL: leftBiasVector } {22 WARN: } {22 FAIL: leftBiasVector rightBiasVector } {23 WARN: } {23 FAIL: rightBiasVector } {25 WARN: } {25 FAIL: leftBiasVector rightBiasVector } {26 WARN: } {26 FAIL: leftBiasVector rightBiasVector } {41 WARN: } {41 FAIL: leftBiasVector rightBiasVector } {42 WARN: } {42 FAIL: leftBiasVector rightBiasVector } {43 WARN: rightBiasVector} {43 FAIL: leftBiasVector } {44 WARN: leftBiasVector } {44 FAIL: } {45 WARN: } {45 FAIL: leftBiasVector rightBiasVector } {46 WARN: } {46 FAIL: leftBiasVector rightBiasVector } {51 WARN: } {51 FAIL: leftBiasVector rightBiasVector } {56 WARN: rightBiasVector} {56 FAIL: } h1 im> saoDisplay h1 1 im> labelPhotoMosaic -fsao 1 im> plotBiasvec /data/photo/cmr/52575/ 3421 25 45 Open /XWINDOW And the second bias run with only direct light half way on. ----------------------------------------------------------- im> getAllFrames 3422 30 /data/photo/cmr/52575 im> checkBias 3422 30 /data/photo/cmr/52575 {65 WARN: } {65 FAIL: oddEvenAmp } {65 WARN: } {65 FAIL: oddEvenAmp } {11 WARN: rightBiasVector} {11 FAIL: } {12 WARN: rightBiasVector} {12 FAIL: } {15 WARN: rightBiasVector} {15 FAIL: } {22 WARN: } {22 FAIL: rightBiasVector } {25 WARN: leftBiasVector } {25 FAIL: } {26 WARN: rightBiasVector} {26 FAIL: } {41 WARN: leftBiasVector } {41 FAIL: rightBiasVector } {42 WARN: rightBiasVector} {42 FAIL: leftBiasVector } {45 WARN: leftBiasVector rightBiasVector} {45 FAIL: } {51 WARN: leftBiasVector rightBiasVector} {51 FAIL: } h43 im> saoDisplay h43 1 im> labelPhotoMosaic -fsao 1 im> plotBiasvec /data/photo/cmr/52575/ 3422 30 45 Open /XWINDOW ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3418 08:20Z 08:25Z 100 O -129.26 -128.00 21 ignore 3419 08:35Z 08:42Z 100 O -125.36 -123.66 25 ignore 3420 08:51Z 09:00Z 100 O -121.49 -119.31 28 ignore 3421 09:31Z 09:44Z 100 O -111.50 -108.18 35 ignore 3422 09:56Z 10:14Z 100 O -105.03 -100.62 41 ignore ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 00:30 16669 0.0 bias 00:47 16670 0.0 bias 05:49 16671 0.0 bias ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: JL none Stays: JL none ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 23:04Z 36 35 10 269 (W) 6543 - This time it worked. Not sure why the other session had a problem. It is possible that when v3_89_0 is run first after sdsshost reboot, there is an initialization problem. If true there will be a simple work around for the run ( start another iop and try again ), and Eric will puzzle over the details.
