APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Friday May 30, 2003 (MJD 52790) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Daniel Long (APO; swing) Mike Harvanek (APO) Steph Snedden (APO) ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- Five plates finished (1316, 1313, 1351, 1173, 1343) and good data obtained for another plate (1319). About 30 minutes lost to clouds but other than that it was a good night. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: ---------- The afternoon check went smoothly. No problems. This afternoon the spectrographs were not refocused. Below are the mean offset values from collimate. Before After b1: .03 - b2: .11 - r1: -.14 - r2: -.08 - Final Piston Position sp1 sp2 motor A -3300 -5550 motor B -3300 -5550 motor C -3300 -5550 Night: ------ Partly cloudy at sunset so we begin with spectroscopy. Plate 1316 (cartridge 6): Guide stars on the gotoField using last night's offsets. Plate finished in 3 exposures (3000 sec total). Plate 1313 (cartridge 5): Guide stars on the gotoField. Plate finished in 3 exposures (1920 sec total). Plate 1319 (cartridge 2): Guide stars on the gotoField but a large rotator correction requiring several iterations was needed afterwards. Two good exposures (1920 sec total) obtained. A third exposure was hampered by clouds and did not have (S/N)^2 > 2 for all cameras. It was declared bad. Another exposure was aborted due to clouds. Plate 1351 (cartridge 8): Guide stars on the gotoField but a large rotator correction opposite to that on the previous plate was required. Plate finished in 3 exposures (1920 sec total). Plate 1173 (cartridge 4): Guide stars on the gotoField. Plate finished in 3 exposures (1800 sec total). Plate 1343 (cartridge 1): Guide stars on the gotoField. When combined with previous data (52789), this plate was finished in 2 exposures (2400 sec total tonight). Clouds were increasing throughout this plate. We forgot the smear. The laptop at the telescope (sirrobert) crashed and had to rebooted at the end of the night. endNight rejoiced. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3973 22:11Z 22:35Z 100 O -69.95 -63.98 54 ignore 3974 01:44Z 02:28Z 100 O -16.53 -5.51 44 ignore ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): YES QA Procedures Done (y/n): YES bias levels and other comments: ------------------------------- r2-L: 544 r2-R: 1489 hot col 1475.5 one fiber cut off at upper right ( low row, high col ) r1-L: 1155 r1-R: 1210 hot col 1152.5- 1153.5 two fibers cut off at upper right b2-L: 1219 b2-R: 1200 one fiber cut off at upper left and lower left. b1-L: 1260 b1-R: 1018 high col 154.5 no fibers run off chip UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 21146, plate -9999 ------- 21:59 21146 0.0 bias ----- sequence 21147, plate 1343 ------- 22:31 21147 0.0 bias 22:33 21148 0.0 bias 22:38 21149 10.0 flat 22:46 21150 2.1 arc 22:49 21151 2.1 arc 23:30 21152 0.0 bias ----- sequence 21153, plate -9999 ------- 01:32 21153 0.0 bias ----- sequence 21154, plate 1316 ------- 21.7 18.8 21.8 18.0 DONE 02:37 21154 0.0 bias 03:14 21155 10.0 flat 03:16 21156 2.0 arc 03:36 21157 900.1 target 03:59 21158 1200.1 target 04:17 21159 900.1 target 04:25 21160 240.0 smear ----- sequence 21161, plate 1313 ------- 14.8 15.6 16.7 18.5 DONE 04:37 21161 10.0 flat 04:39 21162 2.0 arc 04:55 21163 720.1 target 05:08 21164 600.1 target 05:21 21165 600.1 target 05:29 21166 240.0 smear ----- sequence 21167, plate 1319 ------- 10.6 10.2 10.6 10.3 05:42 21167 10.0 flat 05:45 21168 2.0 arc 06:00 21169 720.1 target 06:15 21170 720.1 target declared bad (clouds) 07:06 21171 1200.1 target 07:13 21172 10.0 flat 07:15 21173 2.0 arc ----- sequence 21174, plate 1351 ------- 16.5 17.4 15.6 14.3 DONE 07:28 21174 10.0 flat 07:30 21175 2.0 arc 07:45 21176 600.1 target 07:58 21177 600.1 target 08:13 21178 720.1 target 08:21 21179 240.0 smear ----- sequence 21180, plate 1173 ------- 20.1 19.2 17.9 18.2 DONE 08:32 21180 10.0 flat 08:34 21181 2.0 arc 08:49 21182 600.1 target 09:02 21183 600.1 target 09:16 21184 600.1 target 09:24 21185 240.0 smear ----- sequence 21186, plate 1343 ------- 13.2 12.1 15.8 14.4 tonight 09:36 21186 10.0 flat 6.0 5.8 7.6 7.7 52789 09:38 21187 2.0 arc ------------------- 10:06 21188 1200.1 target 19.2 17.9 23.4 22.1 DONE 10:29 21189 1200.1 target ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 03:13Z 6 1316 183.84 0.0051 65.24 0.0039 5.99 -0.0075 1.000060 04:44Z 5 1313 213.33 0.0053 56.00 0.0036 58.73 -0.0175 1.000160 05:50Z 2 1319 212.48 0.0035 57.68 0.0031 55.48 0.0219 1.000090 07:35Z 8 1351 249.98 0.0061 63.27 0.0029 88.91 -0.0122 1.000060 08:39Z 4 1173 248.19 0.0061 69.65 0.0024 82.26 -0.0008 1.000190 09:59Z 1 1343 262.58 0.0051 56.43 0.0040 103.97 -0.0037 1.000180 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: JL6473 Stays: JL6474 ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 03:12Z 6 1316 1.00006 -591 350 -300 184 65.3 15.4 10 208 ---- 1.3" 04:44Z 5 1313 1.00016 -1579 -445 -300 213 56.1 16.2 9 193 ---- 1.4" 05:49Z 2 1319 1.00006 -591 368 -300 212 57.7 15.9 10 218 ---- 1.7" 07:34Z 8 1351 1.00006 -591 354 -300 250 63.4 15.1 9 277 ---- 1.4" 08:37Z 4 1173 1.00019 -1875 -722 -300 248 69.9 14.6 14 296 ---- 1.4" 09:58Z 1 1343 1.00018 -1776 -560 -250 263 56.5 14.1 8 304 ---- 1.8" ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 21:45Z 65 33 2 271 (W) 641 -
