APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Saturday July 5, 2003 (MJD 52826) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Night: Howard Brewington Pete Newman ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- There were clouds and high winds during the first part of the night. However, we were able to declare to plates done, vis., 1405 and 1024. And, we completed three exposures on the (low_z) plate 1037. At the end of the night, my sop session died, and Pete's sop session lost control of the instruments. See problems section for details. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: ----------- Afternoon checked was uneventful. Spectro focus was checked and was in spec. Night: --------- 03:30Z Clouds have cleared. But as we were about to pull the enclosure, the wind gusts increased to more than 35 mph. 05:45Z Winds are gone now, but we still have some scattered clouds. We are preparing to open the enclosure. 06:10Z cart 07, plate 1405. Guide stars on slew with last night's offsets. Seeing is about ~2.2" Plate declared in three exposures. 07:35Z cart 04, plate 1024. Fk5 star used to find field. Seeing is ~1.9" This plate was declared done when tonight's signal was combined with S/N from previous nights. 09:00Z cart 06, plate 1037. Guide stars on slew. Seeing is ~1.7" Three exposures were completed, but this low_z plate was not declared done. 10:46Z endNight finished and was happy. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4038 00:05Z 00:20Z 100 O -5.99 -2.15 40 ignore ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): y QA Procedures Done (y/n): y UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 21765, plate -9999 ------- 00:06 21765 0.0 bias ----- sequence 21766, plate -9999 ------- 00:41 21766 0.0 bias ----- sequence 21767, plate 1353 ------- 01:05 21767 10.0 flat 01:07 21768 2.0 arc 01:11 21769 2.1 arc 01:14 21770 2.1 arc ----- sequence 21771, plate 1405 ------- 06:20 21771 10.0 flat 06:23 21772 2.0 arc 06:48 21773 1200.1 target 07:05 21774 800.1 target 07:21 21775 800.1 target 07:29 21776 240.0 smear ----- sequence 21777, plate 1024 ------- 07:47 21777 10.0 flat 07:50 21778 2.0 arc 08:10 21779 900.1 target 08:28 21780 900.1 target 08:49 21781 1100.1 target 08:52 21782 10.0 flat 08:55 21783 2.0 arc ----- sequence 21784, plate 1037 ------- 09:16 21784 10.0 flat 09:18 21785 2.0 arc 09:41 21786 1100.1 target 10:03 21787 1100.1 target ----- sequence 21784, plate 1037 ------- 10:25 21788 1100.1 target ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 06:29Z 7 1405 -96.21 0.0050 61.27 0.0024 102.08 -0.0088 1.000120 07:56Z 4 1024 30.58 0.0018 53.17 0.0016 205.24 0.0086 0.999980 09:49Z 6 1037 24.54 0.0040 54.67 0.0018 200.37 0.0128 0.999910 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: JL6631 Stays: JL6632 ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 00:50Z 8 0 1.00000 0 1257 0 121 30.0 20.6 9 85 06:28Z 7 1405 1.00012 -1184 -112 -280 -96 61.4 16.2 14 61 gdr 2.0 06:33Z unknown 1.00008 -789 217 -280 -97 60.4 16.0 14 59 gdr 2.2 07:55Z 4 1024 0.99998 198 1075 -260 31 53.1 16.8 8 335 gdr 1.9 08:11Z 4 1024 0.99998 198 1030 -300 25 54.6 16.1 7 352 gdr 2.0 09:49Z 6 1037 0.99995 493 1276 -300 25 54.6 16.9 10 343 gdr 1.7 ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 23:47Z 67 37 5 99 (E) 373 - clouds 00:19Z 68 39 6 98 (E) 413 - clouds 00:50Z 69 39 9 85 (E) 442 - clouds 01:20Z 67 39 8 77 (ENE) 464 - clouds 01:52Z 64 37 10 83 (E) 378 - clouds 02:24Z 64 36 13 87 (E) 376 - clouds 02:57Z 62 39 7 96 (E) 546 - clouds 03:29Z 61 39 26 78 (ENE) 515 - clouds 04:01Z 60 36 31 66 (ENE) 452 - clouds 04:34Z 61 36 20 78 (ENE) 445 - clouds 05:06Z 61 36 16 76 (ENE) 504 - clouds 05:38Z 61 37 16 64 (ENE) 483 - clouds 06:08Z 60 38 13 53 (NE) 525 - clouds 06:39Z 61 38 10 55 (NE) 596 - clouds 07:10Z 62 36 10 321 (NW) 660 - clouds 07:40Z 60 37 2 299 (WNW) 725 - clouds 08:11Z 60 36 6 351 (NNW) 660 - clouds 08:44Z 62 38 10 335 (NNW) 643 - clouds 09:16Z 61 38 9 352 (NNW) 640 - clouds 09:48Z 62 38 5 359 (NNW) 682 - clear 10:20Z 62 36 6 352 (NNW) 739 - ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- 02:00Z Door cracked, fans on. 06:00Z Enclosure off 10:30Z Enclosure on, fans off, shut down. I noted that the main spectro server (running on monx3, as usual) took over control of the instrument again. I used the grabInstruments -drop and grabInstruments -handlers commands to get control again without apparently losing anything in the interim. This was about the same time that Howard had a SOP session fail, too. 2003-07-06 10:04:34Z: registered (addr46) listener sdsshost:observer:3354 SOPGUI: doNextScience 1100 mcpPut: ffs.select 3 ffs.open mcpPut: SYSTEM.STATUS Opened Flat Field Screen Issuing goStare science with 1100 exposure sp1 cameraNag {} t-g-sdss-2.apo.nmsu.edu 2200 sp2 cameraNag {} t-g-sdss-2.apo.nmsu.edu 2200 Flushing charge for 15 sec mcpPut: SYSTEM.STATUS appending BEGIN scheduling a routine to wait until the exposure is finished successfully started science exposure mcpPut: SYSTEM.STATUS ************************************************** ====>>>>>>RELAY SERVER FAILED TO START!!!!<<<===== ************************************************** couldn't fork child process: Resource temporarily unavailable ************************************************** sp1> grabInstruments -drop 0 sp1> grabInstruments -handlers 600 IOP running as Backup Relay Server requestListen: listening 2003-07-06 10:17:21Z 91 sp1 camcheck 2003-07-06 10:17:23Z 91 sp1 ln2stat 2003-07-06 10:17:24Z 91 sp2 camcheck 2003-07-06 10:17:26Z 91 sp2 ln2stat sp1> 2003-07-06 10:17:32Z: registered (addr47) listener sdsshost:observer:3354
